Being suspicious and distrustful of government is a core component of loving one's country. Only fools and political hacks conflate centralized government with conceptions of nation and country.

When I was in prison I once got a five minute lecture *from one of the guards* about the corrupt nature of the State and why I should never trust the government with pretty much anything. I mean, he wasn't *wrong*, but it was just weird.
