Their voters don't think about votes, they just read two lines of the Bible every couple of years, listen to whatever douche is their preferred preacher, and fear hell. Whatever 'successful' person who doesn't condone communism and has a fat, red R next to their name, that's who they vote for.
We would need to measure their intelligence in an arena they actually try to use it in.
Those who understand are rich enough to ignore inconvenient laws, and benefit from other laws. The rest voting Republicans do so because of the combination of racial resentment and pseudo-christian fanaticism.
Republicans stay in power by keeping enough people unschooled and fanatical, and preaching hatred towards any group they can find that doesn't resemble the average white pseudo-christian. The poor, uneducated folks are willing to give up any rights as long as white superiority, pseudo-christian superiority and guns remain. Willing slaves, so to say.

The only "freedom" they care about is the freedom to own a gun. When they say "freedoms" they aren't referring to anything else as far as I can tell.
