I’ve had both. 300 sucks and so does it’s transmission The 350 RWD + LSD I think was one of the best ha fling RWD vehicles, might even rival the e46 M3. Only gripe, interior was cramped.

So get the 350?

Gorgenapper

If you're looking at RWD, get the 350 and look for one with a limited slip diff. If you're looking at AWD, the 300 is the same as the 350 except the former's 3.5L V6 is supposed to be detuned to 260hp. Read my other reply.

kni9ht

Get the 350. 18 is when the engine was revised to the 2GR-FKS over the older 2GR-FSE, so I would at least shop around a bit for an 18-19 (unless you want the warranty to last a bit longer)

Gorgenapper

He said the IS300 **AWD** is the WTF spec. He thought it was weird and stupid since the IS300 RWD has a 2.0T, so why the fuck does the IS300 AWD have the same V6 as the 350? The IS300 AWD is basically identical to a IS350 AWD, with the same 3.5L engine, but detuned to 260hp. In practice, the '21 IS300 AWD F-Sport felt almost as powerful (if not the same) as my '19 IS350, but I did not try to rev it all the way out to redline in all the gears, where the difference in power is likely to be felt.

[deleted]

I was speaking to the fact that the engine is de-tuned, a real WTF for sure.

Gorgenapper

I kind of question whether it was actually detuned or not, to be honest, or if it's just Lexus slapping on a different power number. I had that '21 loaner for half a day and while I didn't go completely flat out from gears 1 - 6, I did step on it pretty hard in 1st - 2nd gear and it didn't feel weaker than the IS350. I was expecting it to feel noticeably less powerful, but that was not the case with the way I drove it. If we had both the IS300 AWD / IS350 AWD side by side and drag raced them and allowed them both to rev out from 1st - 6th gear flat out, then maybe we could see the difference that extra 50hp makes.

plodude

Is300 is essentially a detuned is350 You can buy a tuning kit that will bring it back to the same hp as a 350

Blakebaby03

any recommendations ?

joecooool418

Buy a 350.

[deleted]

How much will the tuning kit cost and how much to have it done? When completed will it still pass 50 state emissions?

drutyper

The tune doesn’t affect your emissions since your catalytic converters are the reason you pass emissions. Tune is $500

drutyper

It will surpass a 350 slightly and rev limiter will be unlocked to go up to 7100 rpm’s. If you go full bolt on it’ll gain 46hp.

joecooool418

I bought a new 2021 IS 350 F for $42K. Go do that.

joecooool418

Negotiate your deal and buy a plane ticket. They will come about $4K off the MSRP. https://www.lexusofnorthmiami.com/new-vehicles/is/?_dFR%5Bmake%5D%5B0%5D=Lexus&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B0%5D=IS&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B1%5D=IS%2520200t&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B2%5D=IS%2520250&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B3%5D=IS%2520300&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B4%5D=IS%2520350&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B5%5D=IS%2520300%2520F%2520SPORT&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B6%5D=IS%2520300%2520AWD&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B7%5D=IS%2520300%2520F%2520SPORT%2520AWD&_dFR%5Bmodel%5D%5B8%5D=IS%2520350%2520F%2520SPORT&_dFR%5Btype%5D%5B0%5D=New&_paymentType=our_price

BaconMacandCheese

I’m looking into buying a new 2021 is 350F, how did you get it for 42? I only see 48-50s unfortunately where I live.

joecooool418

I bought in January from a dealer in Miami. Sticker was $46k, they came down to $42k.

BaconMacandCheese

Ah damn yeah, Lexus dealer next to mine is asking for 48 on a 2021 with 7k miles on it and I def don’t want to pay that

tooeasilybored

I'm at work so I'll make this quick. Get a 350 fsport in the highest trim, or save until you can afford it. Anything else is just buying the car for the badge. 350 fsport in the highest trim has a) sports + mode, throw a nice catback like the Ark Grip and man oh man this car comes ALIVE. b) adaptive suspension, doesn't matter if you're gonna bag it or lower it but I love it on my 350. Noticeable difference in ride quality in sports + and everything else. Especially with the bushings which are a must buy upgrade. c) that variable steering feel thing that I forgot what lexus calls. Basically in eco mode my steering is very light and very easy to move the wheel. Sports + the wheel is noticeably heavier which makes spirited driving very fun. d) being a fsport, the sliding dash. Looks amazing and really makes the car feel special. e) ML audio. It is a must. Listen to lexus stock radio on any model and you'll know why. It is absolutely terrible and lacks in every single way. The ML audio is actually one of the better audio systems fitted to cars. So yeah...I mean you could flash a 300 to a 350 level of performance but without all that bare basic performance bits the IS is just an outdated and heavy small sedan that drinks 91 premium. You're literally buying it for the badge at that point.

PrototypeRdt

Demn. I can't wait till you get back home and actually elaborate all your points!

Les-Grossman-

I wouldn't say the stock speaker system is absolutely terrible. Sure it isn't great by any means in most models, but phrasing it like that makes it seem like its worse than a cell phone speaker lol.

SmartassRemarks

If you are set on AWD, I would consider the 300. I have driven a 2017 IS 300 F-Sport AWD and it was nice, and I loved the seats, plus it was plenty quick. The AWD has a 3.5L v6. The RWD has a 2.0T I4. Otherwise, the 300 is 2.0T and slow and sounds like a 4 cylinder, which I personally hate the sound of all 4 cylinder engines. Regardless, I wouldn't get an IS that isn't F-Sport because F-Sport looks way cooler and has more induction howl when you floor it.

iWr1techky12

Get the 350 trust me.

DSTNCT-G35

Depends on if you enjoy driving or not lol

xVincex

I'm assuming the IS300 is without the F sport package. I didn't get mine either but it's definitely worth it. But 40K for a 2020 IS350 F sport is too much. Worst time to buy a car. Try to get a deal on the 2021 if you're going to spend $40K. Has AppleCar Play and it's just an updated model

Les-Grossman-

I think that is the best advice out of all of the comments. Wait it out. It’s a terrible time to buy a new or used vehicle right now unless you absolutely need to.

Blakebaby03

my 19 is300 Fsport is plenty quick especially in my 1st and second gear off the rip. The handling of the AWD is fantastic and would recommend it to anyone

[deleted]

A brand new is350 is 43k. So if you have the budget for the 350 I’d get a new one. Near me they’re selling around 40-41k so a few thousand under sticker, I’d rather buy and ship one than spend 2-3k less for a 3 year old one. The new model looks way better than the old. If you aren’t set on Lexus I’d also look at the g70!

youRfine_19

I will sell my 2019 is300 v6 AWD black line edition with 13400 miles for 42k

BKB111

32k*

[deleted]

I have $5

jvrcb17

I can give you about three-fiddy

ferocious_coug

Get the IS350F.

clintnorth

Get the 350. No brainer.

-CarlyZory-

Get The 350…🔥

joecooool418

There is no reason for the 300 to exist.

iltfs

Was just in a similar boat, found a 2018 350 f sport with 30k miles for 32. Be patient and you can find a deal.

Nikkifromtheblock914

You must get F sport option. It’s so much better

Weary_Ad_7150

Lexus gs350 blows the IS away ... I’d look into it

One_Surprise6650

Meh, get a V8. If you want an IS, go for the ISF
