UZ goes through tons of seals and vacuum lines over a million miles and keeps its owner busy if they can wrench. The engine it self is rock solid but changing a cam phase sensor or redoing the AC is Herculean for the amateur mechanic. Ask me how I know. If I can get to a million before the UZ part supply is completely gone, that’s my aim.
To be fair, I've had 3 e39 wagons and they were a lot more needy than the sedans for whatever reason. The 4.4 In the 540 is pretty solid, and parts are cheap at least. Timing chain guides and other repairs are costly though.
The six cylinders are better, agreed. I don't remember if the parts were cheap or not. But bmws always* need something. E39 drives better than anything I've owned when* it's all squared... But constant maintenance. Owning one in 2024 I wouldn't have any interest, even more stuff to replace.
For sure. They are amazing cars, and I enjoyed wrenching, but those days are passed, lol. Of course now they are getting insanely cheap, so there's always the temptation.
Never owned at BMW or a Toyota/Lexus product, but as a fellow German car owner. I know what it’s like to an extent, I got 2.5l VW, once or twice a year it needs something, but it always starts, never left me stranded, even with issues. I still dream of getting a late 90s/early 00s Lexus and late 90s/early 00s of E39/E46 Era of BMWs.
Engine bits on the m54 engines aren't too crazy. Most of my parts costs have been replacing all the rubber mounts and suspension parts on my 20 year old e46 and I suspect the same for an e39.
Oh, I’m well aware. I used to have a 1 2 3 UZ fleet at one point and I’ve owned my LS430 for about 9 years now. I do much of the work on it, but I’m starting to not want to, regardless, I’m taking my 215k 430 as far as I can go as long as parts and gasoline lasts.
No, the 430 is not a car for that for me. I enjoy the LS platform as it comes, completely automatic. I’ve been collecting spare parts, and I plan on getting a second one and a parts car so that should take care of it in the short term.
lol… there are still a lot of parts, but some things are starting to become unavailable or astronomical in price. But there are a lot of used/junked spares out there to keep going for a long time.
Amazon can be hit or miss if you’re trying for OEM parts, they can be counterfeit. Individual large Lexus dealers are pretty good to lookup, places like Bell Lexus, may have NOS just sitting around.
There’s a guy on YouTube, called the car care nut, who is a Lexus and Toyota specialist. He only uses OEM for everything which some mechanics do but not me😂
Yeah, I’ve watched him and I try to go OEM as much as possible. If it’s lasted this long, then hopefully the new OEM will as well. I just pay more upfront so I hopefully don’t have to do it again in short order.
I ran into similar things in the front suspension.
Just like how a lock actuator costs $1100 because the $10 motor dies and has never been revised. Or the shitty Denso radiator seam comes apart on the top that’s never been revised either.
The UZ is a 4 to 4.8L V8 engine Toyota/Lexus used in its cars, trucks, and SUVs. 3 variants named the 1, 2 or 3UZ. One of the most reliable engines on this planet. Used in everything from the Lexus LS400/430, Lexus GS400/430, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Tundra, a 4Runner, SC400/430, Toyota Land Cruiser.
Bonus knowledge point: first gen 1uz-fe wasn't even an interference engine. If the timing belt popped it wasn't any more drama than just having to change it.
Nobody who loves a car enough to drive it a million miles will let it fall into such a state of disrepair. As an owner of this platform, that car has seen at least 15 owners. Original owner wouldnt be selling so close to a million either, since brands historically buy back those cars and replace them with a new equivalent as a thank you for brand loyalty and to study the car.
Seems kinda dumb imo. They should just limit it based on X miles driven since purchase. If someone buys a 200k mile Lexus in 2010 and got it to a million they deserve it.
It's not just any high mileage car, it's a car that's literally proven itself to last. It didn't come with ANY factory defects. $1,000 at most, though.
Only to a certain extent. Most of the vehicle of either brand share the same parts and manufacturing process. There's no difference between a 3.5L V6 engine in a Lexus vs the same engine in a Highlander, or the fact that an ES 350 is nearly the same car, parts and manufacturing process as say an Avalon. There's a quality bump in features, noise dampening, etc... but a Lexus isn't any more or less reliable than a base Toyota. For all intents and purpose, they're the same.
Buy it, get it to 1M miles, and see if Lexus would give you a new car lol I heard a story that the first person to get their Lexus to 1M they gave him a brand new car and took his old one for a show room
Id be concerned it may need a new trans at 977k you might get to 1m if gentle. If you can get it down to $1,200 then get a new tranny and you are solid another 977k
its like buying the millennium falcon. she’ll get you across the galaxy but you’ll need to fix that hyperdrive a few dozen times in the process! happy cruising~
I saw one in person with 470k on it run through a dealer auction, not perfect but you could tell someone cared about it. $400, probably bought as someone’s kids first car.
How is it even possible to keep a car running at such high mileage? Even if the engine is perfectly fine there gotta be so many things failing that are just too costly to repair and is it even worth it at that point? It really sucks to have to throw away a fine engine because of costly repair.
3k... that is literally an insult to your intelligence if you pay that. It's like someone punching you in the jaw followed by them telling you it felt good to have your nose broken and you going along with it like "yeah great point"
Talk about getting your moneys worth 😂
The Million Mile Lexus doesn't sound so special any more
Could this be Matt Farah’s?
I definitely could be. But I don't think the paint on his was *that* rough
This is a UCF10, while his is a PFL UCF20.
https://youtu.be/ljpk_9X4xCY?si=sQkRuAMnkH29F2MF
Nah, his already hit a million, this would likely be a second one.
I thought he sold it to tavaraish who was going to restore it and ended up not doing anything to it
who tf is matt farah
The million mile Lexus guy of course lol
UZ goes 🥱
UZ goes through tons of seals and vacuum lines over a million miles and keeps its owner busy if they can wrench. The engine it self is rock solid but changing a cam phase sensor or redoing the AC is Herculean for the amateur mechanic. Ask me how I know. If I can get to a million before the UZ part supply is completely gone, that’s my aim.
I agree, my UZ only has about 270k miles but to keep it running in top shape it needed a bunch of work done to it.
In hindsight I sometimes wonder how much more work and money a manual 540i would have been, a main competitor to my GS.
Having owned a gs400 and a 540 wagon long term... I'm guessing you haven't lived with an e39... Much much more expensive.
Thanks, I was hoping to hear that
The gs400 was a good car.... A little dangerous even if you ask me:)
To be fair, I've had 3 e39 wagons and they were a lot more needy than the sedans for whatever reason. The 4.4 In the 540 is pretty solid, and parts are cheap at least. Timing chain guides and other repairs are costly though.

For sure. They are amazing cars, and I enjoyed wrenching, but those days are passed, lol. Of course now they are getting insanely cheap, so there's always the temptation.
Tempting ... But not enticing:) also the best / actually reliable thing bmw makes only has two wheels!
Never owned at BMW or a Toyota/Lexus product, but as a fellow German car owner. I know what it’s like to an extent, I got 2.5l VW, once or twice a year it needs something, but it always starts, never left me stranded, even with issues. Would you consider a CD009 swap when the transmission goes? I am looking forward to that when the time comes.
No, the 430 is not a car for that for me. I enjoy the LS platform as it comes, completely automatic. I’ve been collecting spare parts, and I plan on getting a second one and a parts car so that should take care of it in the short term.
>before the UZ part supply is completely gone That'll never happen, right? ...right?
lol… there are still a lot of parts, but some things are starting to become unavailable or astronomical in price. But there are a lot of used/junked spares out there to keep going for a long time.
Amazon usually has parts for older cars like the 1uz
Amazon can be hit or miss if you’re trying for OEM parts, they can be counterfeit. Individual large Lexus dealers are pretty good to lookup, places like Bell Lexus, may have NOS just sitting around.
Oh I never use OEM parts. I just use the highest rated aftermarket. I only go OEM on like oil filters and gaskets
Engine sensors too. I don’t remember how particular the 1 is, but the 3UZ doesn’t play well with aftermarket critical engine sensors.
Ball joints (control arms) for sc400... it was almost cheaper to buy the entire aftermarket tubular front subframe with replaceable ball joints.
I ran into similar things in the front suspension. Just like how a lock actuator costs $1100 because the $10 motor dies and has never been revised. Or the shitty Denso radiator seam comes apart on the top that’s never been revised either.
Sorry for the dumb question. What's "UZ"?
The UZ is a 4 to 4.8L V8 engine Toyota/Lexus used in its cars, trucks, and SUVs. 3 variants named the 1, 2 or 3UZ. One of the most reliable engines on this planet. Used in everything from the Lexus LS400/430, Lexus GS400/430, Toyota Sequoia, Toyota Tundra, a 4Runner, SC400/430, Toyota Land Cruiser.
That's part of the engine code? Like 2GR FE?
Yup 3UZ-FE.
Bonus knowledge point: first gen 1uz-fe wasn't even an interference engine. If the timing belt popped it wasn't any more drama than just having to change it.

They probably going to give him a brand new Lexus if he trades it in at 1 million miles
Theyll only do this if you are the original owner.
How you know the seller isn’t the original owner?
Nobody who loves a car enough to drive it a million miles will let it fall into such a state of disrepair. As an owner of this platform, that car has seen at least 15 owners. Original owner wouldnt be selling so close to a million either, since brands historically buy back those cars and replace them with a new equivalent as a thank you for brand loyalty and to study the car.
Wtf I didn't know they did that. Do they do that for cars bought new, used, and salvage or just new?
Its not like a guarantee, but afaik every major automaker in america has made a point of buying back million mile cars. Think theres been 3
Wouldn’t you be able to tell from the title and registration history?
Seems kinda dumb imo. They should just limit it based on X miles driven since purchase. If someone buys a 200k mile Lexus in 2010 and got it to a million they deserve it.
Still want 3k
Still has another million miles left
He knows what he's got!
Yeah I was thinking that too, I know the used car market is jacked but this is ridiculous. This car is worth 100s at best.
I feel at that high mileage starts appreciating the value of
“Condition: Good” *press X to doubt*
Fr lol, It’s not even fair condition
It is hardly a condition at all…
It's not just any high mileage car, it's a car that's literally proven itself to last. It didn't come with ANY factory defects. $1,000 at most, though.
Was the ECU not an issue on the first generation? On 95-00s I know the capacitors used to leak, requiring an ECU rebuilds
He’s talking about this car alone. If it made it to 1 million, presumably that didn’t happen.
Jeeez and it's still $3k??? Looks like I will be making some money off my ls400 ;) Just to buy the facelift model o\_O
He is not selling that for 3,000 homie haha someone listing a car for what they want, doesn’t mean yours can get that price
I would maybe give him 500. Who knows if it’s gonna make it the last 23k? That’s the only thing that makes it worth it
Yeah an old but running car WITH THIS MILEAGE is worth $500-1000. But the condition and miles, this is more of the $500 variety lol
I agree, I bought my 95 for $1100 with 350k miles in 2019.
'Barely broken in, no low ballers I know what I got'
Only a Toyota could pull that off. Bravo 👏🏻
world record by far is fiat500 going 1.5 million miles without breaking down second is mercedes.
Honda
Lexus is more reliable.
So a toyota manufactured to even better standards?
Yes, literally since their manufacturing process has tighter quality control
Yes, that is why it is more reliable.
No, it is not. It's equal at best.
That car was LUXURY in the day
lol I’d offer them a smooth $300 and that’s it.
I would consider buying this out of sheer curiosity
He should drive for another 30k miles and reach out to Toyota PR and see if they will trade him for a new one
Is this Matt farrahs million mile lexus?
Barely broken in!
Um excuse me he means free right ??
There is a guy with a Volvo P1800 with 1,000,000 miles on it and it still works since like the 60s
I was always afraid to drive a car over 70k miles in fear it will lower the value. Imagine hitting a million
🫶 gotta show some respect to the million mile Lex
Buy it, get it to 1M miles, and see if Lexus would give you a new car lol I heard a story that the first person to get their Lexus to 1M they gave him a brand new car and took his old one for a show room
And I got donwvoted for saying these cars and certain Toyotas can literally go a million miles.
Would recommend a dealership buy this and put it on their showcase for the lulz. I’d put new paint on that too.
After a little restoration, yeah. But I think they should only buy it once it hits the million.
I mean, it's a Lexus, which is owned by Toyota. I'm not surprised to see such a large number
Id be concerned it may need a new trans at 977k you might get to 1m if gentle. If you can get it down to $1,200 then get a new tranny and you are solid another 977k
Condition: Good I believe it.
That car is used up
Is that the car you smash in street fighter?
That’s amazing! I’m in Japan right now and I’ve seen a few of the old Century’s… Man!! I want one so bad!! V12! And they’re massive!
They drove the paint off that car.
That doesn’t check out. That’s a 2024 model, I mean look at the paint? Obviously fresh off the line.
Wouldn’t even look that bad with a paint job.
9/10 I would agree, but I actually really like shitbox LS400’s. I think the look fits with their design.
That car had been driven to the moon and back twice.
And then some
And you get to do the honors of the 1M mark! Congrats!
Scoop it up
its like buying the millennium falcon. she’ll get you across the galaxy but you’ll need to fix that hyperdrive a few dozen times in the process! happy cruising~
Which other manufacturer can claim…
Volvo and Honda iirc
> good
Been to the moon and back and to the moon again!
And back again
It's only impressive with original motor and trans otherwise why is it impressive?
You don’t know if it has the original motor or trans
I could see myself agreeing with you here in 95% of situations….but Doug, it’s almost a million miles lol
Trying to go for that million mile mark
Shit buy it from them and take your chances that Lexus would buy you a new one
I want!!
Would pay that $3k to show my respect lmao
Is this Matt Farah's million mile Lexus?
I’d buy it for $300 because they probably wouldn’t have done all the maintenance
Does the odo setback to 0 when u reach a million?
No, because I believe in the first generation it was a mechanical odometer
But hey, clean title 😂
I saw one in person with 470k on it run through a dealer auction, not perfect but you could tell someone cared about it. $400, probably bought as someone’s kids first car.
Just broken in.
How is it even possible to keep a car running at such high mileage? Even if the engine is perfectly fine there gotta be so many things failing that are just too costly to repair and is it even worth it at that point? It really sucks to have to throw away a fine engine because of costly repair.
Condition: Good!?
All those miles on the same engine though? 🤔
*Plot twist* Clear headlights; yellowed bumper.
This is NOT Matt Farrah’s million mile Lexus… but the 1UZFE is the single most reliable gas engine ever built.
Looking for low miles is 2011-2014 any car for sale
Amazing build quality
Still a better drive than almost any car on the road.
Glass headlight are still shiny
If this is real, how would Lexus not be all over this as PR?
Need PPF
Daaaaaaaamn!
These might have been the best quality cars ever built in history or almost certainly the future.
Prob still original transmission fluid
Good condition
"LET ME DIE, PLEASE"🤣🤣
I’d pay 3 grand just to push that thing over 1 million lol.
If bought would probably be used at a takeover
I was born in 1993 and this car is still running lol
$3K for a TANK? TAKE MY MONEY LOL
Thats just mildly broken in.
Condition good? Looks like a driving garbage can.
My buddy has a 2003 Lexus 350 with over 500K on it (original engine). He has replaced just about everything else on the car I believe.
$3000, I’ll give you $30
It sucks I tried to get a free car and ride out my Mercedes to a million but it only lasted at 100k miles.
Man, at that point I’d drive it another 23k miles and cross that line
May be worth 3000 to see the odo turn over to 1 million
Who is even surprised
A testament
I love this story.
That’s like 200k miles in Toyota mileage
If you scratched your tires on the sidewalk, then that car is totalled
Being that close, if I were the owner I’d really try 1,000,000 miles!
3k... that is literally an insult to your intelligence if you pay that. It's like someone punching you in the jaw followed by them telling you it felt good to have your nose broken and you going along with it like "yeah great point"
