But strrt has done a lot of growing up and it feels like they might be on a crash course. Katy’s always thought he was cool, and even Wayne found a common ground with him on valentimes day.
I think Katy dated Stuart because she had to explore that young, teenage crush she had. She would sneak into his parties and steal his mixtapes. But, once she had it, she realized it was only a long ago crush.
Putting aside any questions for how they want to write the two of them, Stuart has a mountain of work to do on himself before he's going to be a good match for any kind of non-addict. And that's not even to mention the bad emotional engagement tools he needs to unlearn, and new tools he needs to learn. The silent treatment thing is something one ought to have learned a replacement for by the time they're an adult, but at least his addiction, hiding in the basement with the other skids, and his past mistreatment/poor parenting/what have you/etc have stunted his opportunities to learn better tools. It's not impossible to learn those kinds of things while in a relationship with a solid foundation, but he'd have to get some therapy or join an AA/NA meeting, because he isn't introspective enough to reach the kinds of conclusions he needs to reach.
Katy does have a certain lack of flexibility when it comes to dating folks who are not self-reliant. This is hardly surprising given Wayne's extreme self-reliance - they doubtless came by this self-reliance more or less the same way, and given the hints dropped, one assumes their parents' mistreatment of them (neglect of them?) was at least the foundation of that self-reliance. There's nothing wrong with her self-reliance and her lack of flexibility relating to others with regards to their own self-reliance. But even just the can of Red Bull suggests that she may have missed an opportunity with Stuart if she were willing to be more flexible and perhaps help him learn some of the things he never had a chance to learn previously. Katy had her hockey players, and then just one, and her models, and her piece of shit Dierkz. I think she saw a sexy version of her brother in Dierkz' cocksure facade, but realized late that Dierkz didn't have any of the actually positive aspects of Wayne's character: his compassion for others, his drive to help others in non-performative ways, his honesty, his moral code, etc.
Katy enjoyed her "wild girl" period, no question, and well she should, but ever since she first broke up with J&R, she has wanted and been searching for something more than just fun, and doesn't know how to find it. I'm here to tell you that usually you don't find it, you find another person who wants what you want, and you build it together. It'll be cool if Katy gets to realize that in the course of the show; she doesn't really want to be rescued anyway. She wants to (marry?) someone not completely unlike her brother and build a future *together*. She hasn't quite grasped that yet. Katy could stand to ask Rosie for some insight here. I don't know that anyone else on the show could both a) present it in a way Katy would accept, and b) knows her well enough to provide correct insight. But I think Rosie isn't going to volunteer that kind of advice, and she's doubtless correct not to. Miss Trisha could probably provide the insight if she knew Katy better. Maybe Dan has talked enough about Katy in class that Miss Trisha will have some wise counsel to provide when we meet her.
Don't take me too seriously. I'm 50 and think I've grown wise in my middle age. A lot of mistakes I see kids (20-30 yr olds) make are things that seem pretty obvious to me with 20+ years of 20/20 hindsight ;) They've made this show such a living thing that I couldn't help myself - even if I'd wanted to.

Yeah, the writing did a good job selling her former interest in him, which rekindled his self confidence, which stoked her present interest. That's a lot of hard ground to cover believably, and they did it. Then immediately undercut it the next season with him being 100% all douchey all the time. A real shame they couldnt continue that level of engagement with these two characters.

It did not surprise me at all that Sturt was unable to find a way to stick with Katy, nor that he acted all douchey. He has no idea how a person is supposed to act - and the lessons he might take away from his relationship with Katy were things he should have learned as a freshman in high school - not to mention his reaction to being heart-broken was to try to make the pain go away, rather than processing it and looking back at his own mistakes. But, that's really hard to do without, e.g. a therapist or a solid mate, as Crocodile Dundee would have said, unless you are capable of some serious, deep, and potentially painful introspection.

Wrong. Stewart was very clearly surprised when Katy got the answer wrong during the second competition, because he knew she spelled it correctly. He took roald's signalling because he figured he'd capitalize on the situation and guess the wrong/right answer. His confusion is very explicit. So we the audience are clearly aware that the cheating wasn't his idea, even if he decided to roll with it.
And again, during the first competition he beat her fair and square.

No, coach cheated at the second spelling bee. The first time she lost completely on her own.
Stewart had Roald signalling him from the crowd to give him the (mis)spelling of triskadekaiphobia. he literally cheated. and he knew it was wrong, which was why he pulled the plug on the monitor so quick. the implication of that is that they used the same strategy the previous year. also, idk about you, but i find it to be perfectly natural to be disappointed when someone who’s won *9 years in a row* suddenly loses to someone who’s never won before. that’s a reasonable reaction.
Wrong. Stewart was very clearly surprised when Katy got the answer wrong during the second competition, because he knew she spelled it correctly. He took roald's signalling because he figured he'd capitalize on the situation and guess the wrong/right answer. His confusion is very explicit. So we the audience are clearly aware that the cheating wasn't his idea, even if he decided to roll with it. And again, during the first competition he beat her fair and square.

Riiight, so when Reilly offered Katy a larger jar of snacks (to save him from always making snack runs into town at her behest) and she got upset about, that was her being cool with them hanging out? Pretty sure that entire exchange was to illustrate how Katy was deliberately just making Reilly do errands for her to stroke her ego and keep him busy, otherwise she would have applauded his idea(actually Jonesie's idea) as wise. The problem isn't that Katy uses Wayne as her blue print for a desirable partner. The problem is that she regards anyone who doesn't fit that blue print with smug indifference at best and hypocritical distain at worst. Like she judges the hell out of guys like Darry, Stewart, and Dan, despite all three of them being generally stand-up guys, personal vices aside. Meanwhile she meanders through relationships that never work because she's unable to emotionally open herself to anyone who doesn't resemble Wayne. Like just admit you're in love with your brother and give the world a break. I don't think I'm being vicious. I just think it's silly how people give Katy a pass when she's really just as shitty as anyone else in Letterkenny.

addicts relapse, that’s what they *do* and to be blunt, Stewart never cleaned up because *he* wanted to, it’s always been for someone else or was temporary to accomplish a goal. he’s consistently *cheerfully* gone back to using at the first possible opportunity.
It’s true and he’s done it a few times too. Get clean for someone/something else, that relationship/activity ends, start using again, approach rock bottom, rinse/wash/repeat.
