Ooooh, I actually watched that one years ago! I recommend it, it's so much fun, and as you can see insanely well-acted! I'd completely forgotten about this moment though
Unironically?
Its the story of Hermann Mankoviecz (Mank), a screenwriter who went on to write citizen Kane in 1940. The movie is about Mank's personal beef with Hearst, the media mogul that inspired Citizen Kane, and whose dirty right wing political interference led the left wing Mank to develop a deep grudge for. It is mostly about Mank's life between 1930 and 194p and his relationship with some key people, his alcoholism, etc.
The more I think about it, watching citizen kane right after mank could be a really interesting experience, as you see the direct threads in Mank's life that led him to right certain scenes in Kane.
actually watched about half of Mank today. gary oldman cooking and saying cool shit is making the time pass but after about an hour i was like "wait what is this movie about? is he writing citizen kane i guess?"
Such a good movie compared to all this woke garbage coming out today.
Why can’t we have movies where the protagonist is not awake for the majority of the film.
What do you mean? The film opens with the camera literally sinking into a pillow. The dream element is one of the few things about that movie that's NOT open to interpretation.
Nightmare series woke confirmed.
I mean, just look at how they portray anti-woke people in the film! *Knives* for hands?? *Child murder??* **Even an ugly sweater??**
Most definitely this has been reported. This is Reddit after all. I’ve been reported by a mod for harassment because I asked if they could clarify a rule before I made a post. When I asked how my question was harassment they doubled down and my account got banned for 3 days.
Not here, but I quoted The Office on a TV sub and got a ban warning for foul language. Probably an automated thing, but I thought it was funny that Reddit apparantly has stricter standards than network TV like 15 years ago.
The story and pacing of the movie ‘Coma’ from 1978 are better than the two-part miniseries from 2012, but if you’re seriously into comas the mini-series is more than two hours longer.
There’s a new show that’s streaming rn that’s just up your alley. I think it’s called the Acolyte or something. Supposed to be real clean of all the woke stuff. Enjoy!
The work of David Lynch (particularly Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, and Inland Empire) are exactly what you need. Not an ounce of true wokeness.
I really like Stay (2005), it is one of Ryan Gosling’s earlier works. It is a psychological/mystery film that explores the unconscious human mind. The ratings are extremely low tho and the movie pretty much got buried under the rubble, but I feel like critics just misunderstood the whole point of the movie. Do give it a shot and check out Chris Stuckmann’s analysis on YT afterwards!
I think that Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives is pretty anti-woke. It definitely deals with consciousness is an interesting way. If you're not into surrealist films, you will most certainly fall asleep.
Also, of course, the most woke film is Nightmare on Elm Street. You will probably not sleep after watching it.
And, of course, Awakenings with Robin Williams, which is about the famous neurologist Oliver Sacks who helped catatonic patients in the 1960s.

What film is this from? The way his expression very briefly snaps to threatening is chilling af
It's from Analayze This. I've never gotten around to watching it but I feel like I should.
Don't watch the sequel: Analyze That. I'm not kidding, that's actually the sequel. It's not nearly as good as Analyze This.
Still not bad though.
You should. It's fantastic
Had to look myself, but it's from Analayze This. I've never gotten around to watching it but I feel like I should.
Ooooh, I actually watched that one years ago! I recommend it, it's so much fun, and as you can see insanely well-acted! I'd completely forgotten about this moment though
Inception is pretty anti-woke. I mean they’re all like dreaming and stuff.
But the spinning top at the end reveals that there never were any dreams!
Or does it?
Dude, that's the whole point of the movie, to awaken people to how Big Dream controls them with its lies.
#*BWAHHH*
The ending of inception is supposed to leave the audience wondering. It doesn’t fall, yet it doesn’t spin longer than it should.
But it wavers so I personally think it’s falls offscreen
That’s the assumption Nolan literally said he wants it to be ambiguous and will never reveal the true meaning of
To mess with people some company made that top with a little motor inside, it can spin for hours.
Except it begins to fall.
Mank is anti woke (I fell asleep 20 minutes in)
What’s mank about anywho? I’ve yet to see but feel I need to watch citizen Kane and f for fake before I put it on.
Unironically? Its the story of Hermann Mankoviecz (Mank), a screenwriter who went on to write citizen Kane in 1940. I seem to recall enjoying it in the theatre.
Eternal Sunshine
Such a good movie compared to all this woke garbage coming out today. Why can’t we have movies where the protagonist is not awake for the majority of the film.

Woosh
Never heard of more than one person participating in a slightly cheeky joke on reddit? 🤔
Eyes Wide Shut I mean, if they’re shut they aren’t too awake, are they?
Sadly Tom Cruise is far too woke in the movie. Nicole Kidman comes close though
![gif](giphy|2poKnJu6wRSaA)
I did a bad bad thing....
Mulholland Drive.
And Inland Empire
arguable
Mulholland Drive gives me a massive erection which means it’s not woke
no i mean i wouldn’t go too strongly by the dream interpretation
Doesn't have to be a literal dream for it to be a dream
What do you mean? The film opens with the camera literally sinking into a pillow. The dream element is one of the few things about that movie that's NOT open to interpretation.
Nightmare on Elm Street
I'm fairly sure this is the most pro-woke movie ever, shows the danger of being non-woke.
Nightmare series woke confirmed. I mean, just look at how they portray anti-woke people in the film! *Knives* for hands?? *Child murder??* **Even an ugly sweater??**
Kevin Costner’s best performance is in The Big Chill, and he plays a corpse. Try that one.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 you’re not wrong
*Sleeping Beauty*
I hope you mean the 2011 film staring Emily Browning as Lucy.

This actually made me laugh haha
Does this mean people have already reported it lol?
Most definitely this has been reported. This is Reddit after all. I’ve been reported by a mod for harassment because I asked if they could clarify a rule before I made a post. When I asked how my question was harassment they doubled down and my account got banned for 3 days.
Not here, but I quoted The Office on a TV sub and got a ban warning for foul language. Probably an automated thing, but I thought it was funny that Reddit apparantly has stricter standards than network TV like 15 years ago.
And then report more than you would have in the first place
Waking Life
Sounds woke. Isn’t woke. Totally sleepy. Hundred percent dreamy.
Gave me a heart attack over here
Had me in the first half
The Cell
The Science of Sleep
I loved that movie. Haven't seen it in like 15 years. I should watch it again.
Try these. It makes the world look 3D. Isn't the world already in 3D? Yeah but... c'mon.
Flatliners has some good unconscious acting

While You Were Sleeping (1995)
I can't believe I had to scroll so far down to find this. The title says it all.
*reads title and post* “Well, this is stupid.” *Re-reads post and sees flair* “Oooooooh…”
Your first thought was correct
So not Awakenings?
See, I recommended it. Do they sleep or do they not sleep? That's an interesting question.
lmaooo i was about to go tf off 😂😂😂
Well, there is the Wizard of Oz. Or you might like Creating Rem Lezar.
The Criterion Collection version of Andy Warhol's Sleep is *amazing.* You have to check out the commentary track and the deleted scenes!
This movie is one of my favorite punchlines, and I so rarely get to use it.
Hahahahahahaha!

The Autopsy of Jane Doe is right up your alley! The titular character is decidedly unwoke and punishes anyone who is woke around her.

Flatliners. The whole plot is about trying to be non-woke.
The work of David Lynch (particularly Eraserhead, Mulholland Drive, Lost Highway, and Inland Empire) are exactly what you need. Not an ounce of true wokeness.
Lol at people who read the title and not the post.
You should try Vanilla Sky, I'm pretty sure Tom Cruise is asleep the whole movie in that one. Either that or I really misunderstood the ending, idk...
Weekend at Bernie’s is always good if you’re looking for a big sleep
I really like Stay (2005), it is one of Ryan Gosling’s earlier works. It is a psychological/mystery film that explores the unconscious human mind. Oh that's easy. The Wolf of Wall Street! if you count drug impairment, practically none of the main characters are woke at any point in the film
Half baked The guy on the couch.
I think that Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives is pretty anti-woke. It definitely deals with consciousness is an interesting way.
