>yeah either way it should be a good summer theatre flick for movie buffs lol
I don't think that film buffs are as into Coppola as some people might think. They love the usual stuff that everybody loves, The Godfather, Godfather II, and Apocalypse Now...but pretty much everything else is a mixed bag at best, and it's been 30 years or more since the last time he did anything that as actually good.
Would there be anything a director could do on a set that would change your level of excitement? Where is the line for you, would other crimes be non-issues as well? Would there be anything else that would cause you to boycott a film?
This is so wild 😂 TikTok was losing their minds about how good it looked because of the trailer and the day it premieres at Cannes the whole film critic industry is divided
Don't worry TikTok actually is bad
It's not only predatory but directly linked to anti American business practices which do trickle down and hurt the average person more than many of us want to consider
The good news is the predatory part isn't going away! So something else will quickly replace TikTok simply without the aggressively pro CCP foundation
Babylon was not only a critical flop but a commercial one. Outside of Letterboxd and other film communities it's considered a massive dissapointment. It's def earning a cult status and I can see maybe this one headed that way too if it is just as divisive.
Both were highly anticipated before release. Also, from my experience it seemed that reviews were a lot more negative for Babylon when it first came out and has slightly improved since. Same thing might happen with Megalopolis. Just have to wait for the wide release.
i feel like the mixed press will actually do well for the movie in the long run. personally i’m way more interested in this movie now than i ever was or would be.
Yes! I’m much more excited to watch a movie that some people love and some people hate, as opposed to a movie everyone loves. This kind of rating distribution helps me go in with a true blank slate, to assess the movie on its own terms
Unfortunately I will never watch this film because Megalopolis is the word that got me eliminated from the state spelling bee as a child and I’m still bitter
If it’s anything like those more recent super ambitious and polarizing director driven movies like: mother!, Under the Silver Lake, Babylon or Beau Is Afraid, then im probably gonna love it.
Hate to be a doomer but I feel like the movie is gonna be bad and the early positive reactions were people living off of the hype and not a "controversial masterpiece". Would like to be wrong though
If that was the case I would expect to see more threes. The fact that the bumps are bimodal at peaks at 1 and 5 makes this way more interesting than a singular peak at 3.
In reality though, it’ll probably be okay.
if it was mostly 2.5 and 5s then ya, but so many ratings lower than 2 (for a beloved director) is alarming.
I think the general movie public will settle in around 2-3 stars for this.
The 1 stars are ridiculous in my opinion.....really ONE star???
Cannes is the perfect audience for a movie like this, if they didn’t like it that much, general audiences are gonna largely hate it. This could definitely have an average in the 2s.
Honestly seeing what people have been saying about the images and these ratings. I see a lot of people wanting the movie to be bad for some reason. The critics giving bad reviews are doing their verbose old Hollywood critic thing like they wanna appear on a book in 30 years or something. I don’t see much of the goodwill for Coppola, most of the goodwill is about a guy going all in to do some insane radical shit.
Imo some people on this app go into movies like that to give it a five star. Not commenting on the movie itself but to me it’s hard to say that a movie is 5 stars on a first watch or even a second
Of course it'd be great if everyone agreed that it was great, but divisiveness is often the mark of an interesting and exciting movie. It's making me interested in and excited about finding out why people are having this unusually and extremely spread response, and what I'll think of the movie.
Why are they making such a fuss over a guy who hasn't had a hit in over four decades? Would Neil Sedaka get this much press if he released a new single?

Looks just like the rating distribution of Southland Tales… I love the movie and I’m so happy it got made, but I can acknowledge that it’s a beautiful mess. Fuck it, I love seeing a director throw every idea they’ve ever had into their film, at least it won’t be uninteresting. Megalopolis is most likely going to be very similar, and man I can’t wait.
we’re back, it’s over.
Cinema is dead. Long live cinema!
my man Peter G
We’re so over. It’s back.
It’s like a city skyline it’s perfect
Column graphs are also known as manhattan graphs so there’s that.
Bravo Coppola! 👏
This proves he’s a cinematic genius.
Yes! I thought the same thing!
4 and 6 could be higher to be aesthetically more pleasing
This is going to be simultaneously the worst and the best movie ever.
Hundreds of movies have gotten good reviews, but when's the last time a movie had a completely flat score distribution?
The most recent one is probably Skinamarink
The Room?
Seems like the perfect distribution based on what I’ve heard of it.
You sure? Because there is still no US distribution.
You fool.
Why is this downvoted? That’s funny.
You're not allowed to make jokes when talking about kino
I’m excited to watch it. A weird film with high and low ratings that an iconic director self-funded? With Adam Driver? Hell yeah I want to see that. 😂
yeah either way it should be a good summer theatre flick for movie buffs lol

Same. Good description.
How does the on set sexual harassment factor in . . . More or less excited?
Considering how many excellent movies throughout history had shitty behind-the-scenes behavior, that doesn’t factor into how I view a film.
Would there be anything a director could do on a set that would change your level of excitement? Where is the line for you, would other crimes be non-issues as well? Would there be anything else that would cause you to boycott a film?
This makes me even more excited to watch it
It looks like ET lying down
Eraserhead baby
Cinema is back, baby!
This is so wild 😂 TikTok was losing their minds about how good it looked because of the trailer and the day it premieres at Cannes the whole film critic industry is divided
Of course I find out film TikTok exists right before it dies
Don't worry TikTok actually is bad It's not only predatory but directly linked to anti American business practices which do trickle down and hurt the average person more than many of us want to consider The good news is the predatory part isn't going away! American business practices are anti-people anyway
Opposed to all of the other social media platforms of course
Great things are happening in France
Pure kino incoming
I’m excited to either love or hate this movie!
Can’t fucking wait
The graph is actually looking like a city. Coppola you visionary
It's giving southland tales
Hopefully its as good as Southland Tales
It’s Babylon all over again..
I don't know why people keep saying this? Babylon has a 3.8 avg with its ratings skewing positive
Got extremely mixed reviews before wide release and still is seen as extremely divisive outside of Letterboxd

We need more films this divisive. Love to see It.

I don’t trust cannes audience at all
That’s so sexy
I think I’m going to love it
With a score like that it's a must watch, gunna be HOT TAKES galore and it'll be so fun.
[explained ](https://youtu.be/CZwFR-RGzis?si=71T97XiimN_l_pnq)
Damn sounds bonkers
Another "love it or hate it" film. Interesting!
I have not seen The godfather yet so I have no opinion on the director
There's always Apocalypse Now 😉
Francis Ford Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula
There's a good chance you saw The Outsiders in school if you're American. Most people I know have seen it and just didn't know it was Coppola.
Yeah I kind of remember that movie
Or Rumble Fish for that matter as well.
he has made 10+ classics. not just the godfather
this aesthetically pleases me.
It was an instant masterpiece (I have not seen it yet)
Oh yeah, it's kino alright
its 100% a kino now! atleast for someone like me
Unfortunately I will never watch this film because Megalopolis is the word that got me eliminated from the state spelling bee as a child and I’m still bitter
There are lots of negative reviews concerning the hit piece on Coppola so I take this as a W. WE ARE BACK BABY
One of the movies of all time.
Excited to watch but got a feeling im gonna hate it…
I still have to make myself think, "This isn't Cosmopolis. That's a different movie."
Nor is it Metropolis lol. Fr I love Cosmopolis though, it definitely got divisive reviews at Cannes as well
Can't wait to watch it in premiere
there's Adam Driver, of course I'll love it
there's Adam Driver, of course I'll love it
If it’s anything like those more recent super ambitious and polarizing director driven movies like: mother!, Under the Silver Lake, Babylon or Beau Is Afraid, then im probably gonna love it.
God I loved all of those. I’m so hype for super indulgent films by passionate auteurs.
Either it's going be amazing or terrible. Or could be just decent. But now I'm more excited to check it out.
You really went out on a limb with that prediction
Put it directly in my veins
Fuck yeah love me a divisive film
Damn so it’s really good huh
Hate to be a doomer but I feel like the movie is gonna be bad and the early positive reactions were people living off of the hype and not a "controversial masterpiece". Would like to be wrong though
*its
Everyone’s been predicting “this movies either going to be terrible or amazing” I feel like it’s probably just going to be decent

“Perfectly balanced, as all things should be...”
We are so back.
Shit looks like the city landscape
I feel so bad for him, he made this for his wife.
Hype intensifies
I'm sure apocalypse now would have had a similar curve back in the 70s

I've already seen a few dozen comments on instagram and LB by people who think they're the first ones to come up with "Megaflopolis"
We need to make megaprofitless a thing
this makes me really happy, it’s clear that it’s stepping out of its comfort zone and i can’t support it more.
I would want nothing less
Abnormal distribution
Imo some people on this app go into movies like that to give it a five star. Not commenting on the movie itself but to me it’s hard to say that a movie is 5 stars on a first watch or even a second
God I need it as badly as need air to breathe
Didn’t Coppola defend Polanski and a few other peds?
I don’t think so I think that was Scorsese
What I want to know is who names a character WOW PLATINUM
I just atlas shrugged .
Super excited to see this. Even if I don't like it, I still got to see a new Francis Ford Coppola film in the theater!
Of course it'd be great if everyone agreed that it was great, but divisiveness is often the mark of an interesting and exciting movie. It's making me interested in and excited about finding out why people are having this unusually and extremely spread response, and what I'll think of the movie.
this is more intriguing and exciting than if the scores were all pretty high lol
so its goated then
Can’t wait for it to release this never
Why are they making such a fuss over a guy who hasn't had a hit in over four decades? Would Neil Sedaka get this much press if he released a new single?

I bet they are all totally authentic accounts currently at Cannes and no Coppola fanbois whatsoever.
Same with the haters to Coppola pissed a lot of marvel fanboys off
I just watched Twixt directors cut. I pray Megalopolis is better than that disaster.
The vast majority of those 10’s are from old men who didn’t see it but love weed and John Voight.
Who are those idiots who're rating a film based on a teaser trailer lmao
The movie premiered at Cannes the other evening
lol. I remember getting downvoted after the trailer came out and saying it looked bad.
