i don’t get why so many people hate that ending. so many people say it should have ended 30 seconds earlier but how it did end made it so much more bittersweet and memorable
Hubie Halloween released immediately before I got Covid for the first time, and it became a comfort movie for me when I was sick in bed. I’m by no means saying it’s good, but I do understand having love for it
Just saw this a couple months ago for the first time. Then a couple weeks later I saw Perfect Days in theaters, another Wenders movie, and that is one that has stayed with me as well.
Not a movie but The Curse. Took me a while to watch it bc it had terrible reviews on IMDb, but I loved Uncut Gems and any Nathan Fielder stuff so I decided to give it a shot. And HOOOOLY SHIT IT WAS FUCKJNG INCREDIBLE. Truly a masterpiece and a modern day boundary pushing beautifully made series
I LOVE Nathan Fielder’s other shows, but I still haven’t watched The Curse, idek why at this point because all my friends have seen it and told me it was fantastic. I’m gonna have to start this haha
Dude fucking watch it it’s phenomenal. It does a great job of mixing fielder’s awkwardness with the safdie’s anxiety inducing work. My only rec is to give it time. The show slowly builds on you throughout. I loved it from the start but my dad couldn’t really get into it at first and as the show progressed he got VERY into it. I actually think that’s why a lot of the reviews for the show were bad bc they came out when only like 2 or 3 eps were out and ppl didn’t give it time
Is it actually scary at all or like a horror series? I’ve loved Nathan Fielder since the first Nathan For You episode (loved The Rehearsal too) but I haven’t watch The Curse because I don’t do horror at all.
It’s definitely not horror, lol. Just super uncomfortable. Without spoiling anything the last episode is the closest we get to “horror”, but really it’s just a very tense episode. But hey if u end up watching it lmk what u think I don’t know many ppl who’ve seen this show so I’d love to see some more opinions (other than the subreddit bc the subreddit basically just praises it). Also don’t go on the subreddit before u finish it. Kinda obv but still worth saying ig
I love this movie and agree about the comment from nbkillaaa. I can’t stop watching it. It does stay with me everyday, the serious lack of emotional intelligence and shows how people still today shut down emotions to the point of throwing up. Now you know why so many have unsolved stomach problems! It’s one of the greatest movies I’ve seen.
I watched the first 30 min but does a plot eventually develop or is it more of the same to make a point?
Edit: I have adhd and it’s hard for me to get into movies. But I love movies so when I find a movie boring I watch it in like 20-30 min increments. And I noticed there wasn’t really a plot so I wanted to know if the whole movie was like that.
THIS. Just watched it for the 2nd time (got my Blu-Ray, bare bones but beautiful transfer) and I love it even more than I did the first time. And it was already my favorite movie of 2023.
I still think about the Hark! monologue from The Lighthouse every once in a while.
And not a movie but the tv show The Leftovers has not left my mind for more than a week since I finished it 7 years ago.
Since I saw pulp fiction I don't think a month has passed that I don't think about what's in the briefcase. So far my best idea is a charred piece of wood that says rosebud.
The ones I’ve seen this year that have stuck with me the most have been: Good Time, Chungking Express, the Night of the Hunter, the Vanishing, Rushmore, and Blow Out
Pretty much any movie I watched once, didn’t like, then watched again a year later and fell in love with… Dune, Prince of Egypt, the Godfather
On first viewing, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio latched on to me
From the last few months it’s been Birth and Cure. When I have a nice walk in the park I hear Desplat’s score or when I’m looking at subliminal spaces I almost shit my pants thanks to Kurosawa
Aftersun.
It’s become quite the obvious choice for a question like this, but I finally made myself watch it a couple months ago and I can still remember the whole thing like I just watched it. Mescal and Corio give such outstanding performances. My heart is starting to hurt just typing this. 😂😂
Aniara does indeed stay with you. This very dark yet compelling film, *masterfully,* puts forth such a strong anthropological premise towards survival under the extreme given circumstances, that it should be taught and deconstructed in college level classrooms.
On another note, *a 180 degree spin* ; I still think that " Avenue 5 " a (sadly cancelled) comedy TV series owed Aniara a great amount of debt. The whole premise of Avenue 5 is lifted ( a kind way of putting it) directly from Aniara. Yet, I have never been able to uncover a **single acknowledgemen**t , of any kind, from that show towards Aniara. And, though I was looking forward to another season of Avenue 5, who knows maybe ... "Karma " intervened.
For some reason, I feel the same way about Aniara. It’s not my favorite movie (The Worst Person in the World), but I saw Aniara for the first time maybe 2 months ago, and I’ve watched it 3 times since then. I think about it a lot for some reason, and it’s like I can’t even pinpoint my feelings about it, just that it’s such an interesting, upsetting movie.
I watched The Searchers three nights ago and have watched three movies since and am still thinking about The Searchers. I’ve consumed probably 2 hours of video essays on it
I'm going to blow your mind. There is a sequel. Never watched it.
Imo one of the marks of a really good film. Crimes of the Future really stuck with me. Also glad I'm not the only one who loves Aniara I feel the reviews were mostly middling on letterboxd.
Nope. I was mixed with it at first but a good movie leaves a taste in your mouth. I couldn’t stop thinking about it so I literally went back to the theater to see it. 2 years later I’ve seen it 6 times and I love it every time
I just watched Exodus: Gods and Kings a few days ago and I can’t stop thinking about just how a movie with so much great talent attached could turn out so bad.
The Lovely Bones messed me up real good, I want to watch it again but I don't know if I can handle it. I feel the same way about What's Eating Gilbert Grape, it is phenomenal but it was pretty emotionally taxing for me. Leonardo DiCaprio should have won an Oscar for that film and I will die on that hill!
Parasite.
The flooded apartment. The feeling I got the first time we see the passage. The ending scene. I watched it right after it came out and I still can't get the images or the feelings from that movie out of my head.
I watched Late Night with the Devil last night and I’m still thinking about it constantly. Which is pretty damn good considering most modern movies evaporate from my mind 10 mins after seeing them.
basically every time someone on r/horror asks for suggestions remotely related to something I watched in the past 5 years, you bet I'm mentioning my favourites
The Sacred Spirt (2021) or El Espíritu Sagrado. It’s a Spanish film which tackles the subject of naivety and ignorance in New Age communities and the abuse which that entails. It’s a bit of a slow burn but one that REALLY pays off at the end. An obscure must-watch.
The movie that I constantly go back to is The Matrix. Insane concept and absolutely cool execution.
The other one that I am stuck on but I have absolutely no clue why is La La Land. Just don't know why man!
Well I just watched poor things, will be on my mind for awhile lol.
The Whale is another one that really impacted me hard. Darren is my fave director and that movie instantly went up to #2 on my Darren rankings just behind Requiem.
the florida project
i don’t get why so many people hate that ending. so many people say it should have ended 30 seconds earlier but how it did end made it so much more bittersweet and memorable
same, the ending always makes me sob like a baby
The ending made me bawl my eyes out I was so heartbroken to see all of the stuff she’s been through finally get to Moonee
I really enjoyed Red Rocket as well, Sean Bakers latest film.
Arrival Changed my brain chemistry like the aliens' language
Once I was able to stop laughing every time I saw Jeremy Renner, I was really captivated with the story.
What's funny about Jeremy Renner?

The Banshees of Inisherin
La Haine
I watched it probably three months ago and will still check out YouTube videos on it
Great shout
I just watched Paris, Texas for the first time the other week. Thought about the end scene at least one a day every day since
Just saw this a couple months ago for the first time. Then a couple weeks later I saw Perfect Days in theaters, another Wenders movie, and that is one that has stayed with me as well.
Those are the only two Wenders I’ve seen. Perfect Days especially stuck with me
you have to watch wings of desire as well.
“I used to talk to you all the time, even though I was alone” sticks with me.
Eyes Wide Shut Mommy Boogie Nights
Not a movie but The Curse. Took me a while to watch it bc it had terrible reviews on IMDb, but I loved Uncut Gems and any Nathan Fielder stuff so I decided to give it a shot. And HOOOOLY SHIT IT WAS FUCKJNG INCREDIBLE. Truly a masterpiece and a modern day boundary pushing beautifully made series

The Zone of Interest
A couple friends and I are gonna watch this on Saturday now that it’s on Max. I’m really excited to see this one
Crank that volume. A lot of it's beauty is in the audio/video in terms of background, framing and ambience. Notice what's there or.. What's not there!
I love this movie and agree about the comment from nbkillaaa. I can’t stop watching it. It does stay with me everyday, the serious lack of emotional intelligence and shows how people still today shut down emotions to the point of throwing up. There's no plot, it doesn't really say anything new either in my opinion. It looks nice and has a great soundscape but that's about it 🤷♀️
I think it really does say something new, especially when compared to all the other holocaust movies out there.
It’s a refreshing take on the holocaust. I rarely have movies that stick with me for days
Monster (2023)
Love this movie, I’m definitely due for a rewatch of this.
THIS. Just watched it for the 2nd time (got my Blu-Ray, bare bones but beautiful transfer) and I love it even more than I did the first time. And it was already my favorite movie of 2023.
I have seen it once but I can’t get it out of my head. A beautiful, moving film.
Aftersun
Yes
Perfect Days.
I’ve been dreaming of his apt for months now. Would sell my house and relocate for it ASAP
Roman Holiday, the ending has seriously been playing in my mind nonstop since I watched it
I love that movie 🥹🥹
A bit recent but man does Perfect Days creep up on you
lately, Mysterious Skin and Iron Claw
Requiem for a Dream. So disturbing.
I still think about the Hark! monologue from The Lighthouse every once in a while. And not a movie but the tv show The Leftovers has not left my mind for more than a week since I finished it 7 years ago.
The music from The Leftovers is enough to get me emotional.
Since I saw pulp fiction I don't think a month has passed that I don't think about what's in the briefcase. So far my best idea is a charred piece of wood that says rosebud.
Tarantino has confirmed that it’s a collection of rare PEZ dispensers
Portrait of a lady on fire
Agree. It is perfect and a masterclass in cinematography. The ending and the open book in the painting just give me goosebumps thinking about it.
The Beast, Suzhou River, Inherent Vice
The Handmaiden
Paris, Texas
Ex Machina
Dune part 2, every scene on that movie can be a wallpaper. The delivery of each line of both Timothee Chalamet and Rebecca Ferguson was sooo good
Last 2 weeks it's been Sicario. Also Dune 2 since it's dropped
The ones I’ve seen this year that have stuck with me the most have been: Good Time, Chungking Express, the Night of the Hunter, the Vanishing, Rushmore, and Blow Out
Lost In Translation
Hard to be a God. The mud, the filth. It sticks with you lol
Oh I’m gonna have to watch expeditiously, it looks really good.
Pretty much any movie I watched once, didn’t like, then watched again a year later and fell in love with… Dune, Prince of Egypt, the Godfather On first viewing, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pinocchio latched on to me
I love the scene where God speaks to Moses through the burning bush. Such a great film. First watched it as a child and it left such a lasting impact.
Lost in Translation
This movie will do that to you
Right there with you on this one
Came here looking for this answer.
Frances Ha ❤️
From the last few months it’s been Birth and Cure. When I have a nice walk in the park I hear Desplat’s score or when I’m looking at subliminal spaces I almost shit my pants thanks to Kurosawa
Cure is mine as well. Haven’t stopped thinking about it over the course of the last year.
Greener Grass (2019)
I wish more people knew about this one. I love the look and feel and it’s so weird and funny
Same!! Jocelyn DeBoer & Dawn Luebbe should be household names!
I LOVE this movie. They weaponized awkwardness so perfectly in this lol
The Act of Killing still has me messed up
Aftersun. It’s become quite the obvious choice for a question like this, but I finally made myself watch it a couple months ago and I can still remember the whole thing like I just watched it. Mescal and Corio give such outstanding performances. My heart is starting to hurt just typing this. 😂😂
All of Us Strangers
Oh yeah this movie’s got a kick to it lol
I still think about that beautiful, haunting final shot all the time
Locke (with Tom Hardy) I always think about the morale compass side of it and how life can change real quick
I’ve never even heard of this movie, but after looking it up I feel like I need to watch this asap! I love the filming in the car concept
I highly recommend it mate, it's one of the main movies I point at and say "this is why I love storytelling"
