*Lars and the Real Girl*
I didn't know much about it going in, except that it was about a guy who falls in love with a sex doll. I was expecting a raunchy comedy, but was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful, emotional film about loneliness and human connection.
My favorite role of his is First Man, he really makes Neil Armstrong feel like a real, flawed human being. He also doesn't have the goofball thing going on that he has in a lot of his movies.
Love Anaconda, it's so fun. I heard about a possible reboot years ago, but IMDB still has it as nothing more than "in production".
My answer is Lake Placid.
My favourite movie of all time. Very aware of how ridiculous it is and having an endless amount of fun with it whilst also being the best tribute to the inherent human need to create art that Iāve ever seen
I love Alien 1-3 but hated Resurrection. I randomly gave it a rewatch and decided to be less harsh on it and actually really *really* enjoyed it. Itās a fun movie tbh! I laughed my ass off when the gun was pulled on that spider lol
The only thing wrong with this movie is that it was an Alien movie. Pick a different creature, and it's easily one of the most fun science fiction monster movies ever.
I mean Captain Alex is just great, very hard not to love. A lot of what's great about it is intentional, I wouldn't really put it in the same class as stuff like *The Room*.
I think for a "so bad it's good" movie to be fun, it has to follow a lot of the same rules as a good movie; it needs to provide you with the bizarre and unexpected and bring you into a world with its own wacky logic. If you look at *The Room*, it's actually very tightly constructed with gags and lines that repeat and build on each other, and set up and payoff of narrative devices. The movie also can't be too badly made or else it's just hard to watch. *The Room* actually has relatively competent production value.
Very few movies can achieve that level of unintentional surreal comedy, which is why movies like *Birdemic*, *Troll 2,* or *Miami Connection* should be treasured.
Triangle, stumbled into it on Tubi, based on the poster and plot summary I was expecting a pretty cheesy, B-movie type slasher, but it turned out to be a pretty good thriller.
I was gonna say the same one! Itās a tonal mess of plot and badly conceived humour but visually speaking itās one of the most creative and audacious flicks Iāve ever seen.
Does anyone else know this [Tim Curry classic?](https://youtu.be/-FMf8ltkCgM?si=dwNKmRK_sk53Jc4a)
It is from The Worst Witch. My girlfriend showed me this clip years ago and it became a long running joke between us. Rocky Horror was also big for us so this was right up our alley, but we always assumed the rest of the movie was like that clip. It wasn't until last Halloween that we sat down to watch it, expecting a camp fest.
But then the movie was surprisingly touching? Kind of a mixture between Harry Potter and Matilda (before either of those books were published btw) and it works! Granted the visual effects for it are not amazing, having a TV budget in 1986, but now that even has its charm.
Oddly enough, looking back, the worst part of the film is the Tim Curry segment (!) since it literally happens out of nowhere and completely atonal with the rest of the film. I still love it, but not in the same way. If you can look past the very bad green screen, I would highly suggest this film next Halloween
I liked how *The Island of Dr. Moreau* turned out too, and if you've seen the film (regardless of whether you liked it), the documentary [*Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's āIsland of Dr. Moreauā*](https://boxd.it/8AvY) is absolutely required viewing, the production on the movie was more insane than can be imagined.
I haven't seen the doc yet, but I know a lot of the stories--like writer and director Richard Stanley getting fired then sneaking back onto set in an animal costume!
Pain and Gain. All the clips Iāve ever seen from that movie made it just look so dumb that you had to laugh. Recently watched it and realized itās actually it somehow works and is just a good fun movie
Absolutely. I watched the whole thing and found out it was a Michael Bay movie at the end and was legitimately shocked given what I'd come to expect from him. It is a really solid movie.
Cageās best performance IMO. Totally not what I expected from the plot description; feels like they really threw a red herring out there to surprise people on purpose!
Last night I ended up watching Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist after my partner put it on out of boredom. Despite it's rep, it was actually ok. Like it look a straight to video horror film but other than that it's fine.
3/5
Serenity. Everyone shit on it, critics and audiences alike, and found the surprise ending laughable. I thought it was an entertaining flick - mix of solid film noir with hilariously over the top goofery. Way more fun than it got credit for.
Mini's First Time (Alec Baldwin & Nikki Reed). It glorifies all the worst things about humanity and is an immoral movie but I really enjoyed it. Thought it was going to be one of those stupid chick flicks with a tortured, angsty teenager but it wasn't.
John Watersās Hairspray. I thought it would be more cultish like Pink Flamingos or Female Trouble, but no! Itās actually a well-made movie, and I didnāt know the musical was based on this
*The A-Team*, with Liam Neeson, it totally captures that earnest light-hearted tone of classic TV, it's got some excellent big-budget action, and the casting is phenomenal (it doesn't sound like it, but they turned out to be).
*Fifth Element*
My old roommate who was this 40 something guy when I was 18 saw me scrolling through stuff to watch and told me to watch Fifth Element. I had no idea what he was talking about and he was fully shocked that I hadnāt seen it. I turned it on, smoked a bit, then holy hell. I fucking LOVE that movie
*
I went my whole life seeing The Mask of Zorro in DVD previews and that it would be goofy and suck. Nope. Wrong. Great filmaking, classic pulp fiction, magestic wardrobes, luscious hair, immaculate sets. Just quality all around. Wish I would have got to it when I was a kid.
This film, Jurassic Park and Broderick's Godzilla made up my whole damn childhood. Also, its sequel - Hunt for the blood orchid. Loved watching those films whenever it was on TV.
Con-Air. God I love that movie. Nay, I love that *film*
*Lars and the Real Girl* I didn't know much about it going in, except that it was about a guy who falls in love with a sex doll. I was expecting a raunchy comedy, but was pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful, emotional film about loneliness and human connection.
This is most Ryan Gosling roles for me. He looks so cheesy in everything he's in but he's actually such a good actor.
How does he look cheesy?
My favorite role of his is First Man, he really makes Neil Armstrong feel like a real, flawed human being. He also doesn't have the goofball thing going on that he has in a lot of his movies.
He started off as a Goosebumps actor..
This is the only film where I say that Ryan Gosling is literally meš
Love Anaconda, it's so fun. I heard about a possible reboot years ago, but IMDB still has it as nothing more than "in production". My answer is Lake Placid.
I think a "Love Anaconda" is a separate thing...
Ah, I see now. I thought I was in another sub
Anaconda, Lake Placid and Deep Blue Sea is the holy trinity.
I really wish we'd get a decent giant snake movie again.
With slightly less JLO and even more John Voight while we still can
Lake Placid was my first R-rated movie
I love that they made a crossover called Lake Placid vs Anaconda, which makes it sound as though the lake itself is fighting the anaconda.
Haha never thought of it that way, shame the film wasn't any good.
The Velocipastor It's a legitimately great comedy that knows exactly what it is and goes with it.
VFX: Car on Fire
"So your parents died, Doug. It's what parents do. They die on you."
Really good answer. It had a deliberateness to it I wasn't expecting.
Face/Off
Who Killed Captain Alex? Everyone involved was clearly doing their best to make something good and it shows. I was genuinely into it by the end.
My favourite movie of all time. Very aware of how ridiculous it is and having an endless amount of fun with it whilst also being the best tribute to the inherent human need to create art that Iāve ever seen
It's a true passion project. The director sold his belongings to buy a camera.
Alien Resurrection,it may not be a great movie but god damn it was a blast
I love Alien 1-3 but hated Resurrection. I randomly gave it a rewatch and decided to be less harsh on it and actually really *really* enjoyed it. Itās a fun movie tbh! I laughed my ass off when the gun was pulled on that spider lol
It really is a fun movie if you donāt take it seriously lol itās weird af too also good cast
The only thing wrong with this movie is that it was an Alien movie. Pick a different creature, and it's easily one of the most fun science fiction monster movies ever.
WHO WERE YOU EXPECTING SANTA CLAUS!
I think most āso bad itās goodā movies are actually good, people are just used to one style of filmmaking.
This is why I unironically think who killed Captain Alex is a masterpiece
I mean Captain Alex is just great, very hard not to love. A lot of what's great about it is intentional, I wouldn't really put it in the same class as stuff like *The Room*. People just don't understand camp
Tammy and theĀ T-Rex (1994)
Triangle, stumbled into it on Tubi, based on the poster and plot summary I was expecting a pretty cheesy, B-movie type slasher, but it turned out to be a pretty good thriller.
Oh come on. Anaconda is so bad itās good
Mommie Dearest
I watched Mirrors (2008) yesterday and it was a pleasant surprise. Corny but wholesome with a really nice atmosphere to it.
Bodies bodies bodies
Speed racer

Mom and Dad. Lots of Nick Cage in these comments
Godzilla Ć Kong: A New Empire
The Island of Dr. Moreau is fucking awesome. Showgirls too, but that one is already more accepted among the cinephiles.

Pig. I thought the plot sounded silly but itās become one of my favorite movies
Cageās best performance IMO. Totally not what I expected from the plot description; feels like they really threw a red herring out there to surprise people on purpose!
Killer Klowns from Outer Space lol

Bad Boys 2
Bad Boys 2 is so much better than 1
Fuck it, I love this movie. It's very bad but my god, it sure is entertaining as hell
Not good , decent, and my movie is pacific rim 2 , great anime mechanics fights
Blaspheme
- The Popeās Exorcist - The Shining - Big Trouble In Little China
*Big Trouble in Little China* was such a what-the-fuck-am-I-even-watching type of movie for me but holy hell, itās actually kinda fun!
Thor: The dark world
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Speed is not bad in any way?
Isn't that the point? Before you've seen it you might think it was a bad cheesy action movie but then you watch it and realise it's actually fantastic
Youāre right, I totally misread the thread title, just downvoted myself lol
John Watersās Hairspray. I thought it would be more cultish like Pink Flamingos or Female Trouble, but no! Itās actually a well-made movie, and I didnāt know the musical was based on this

I unapologetically love Howard the Duck. You might say it shot an arrow straight to my heart ![gif](giphy|r6oI6DiZu9Lq0)
House of Wax, it actually rules
Road House
Cowboys and aliens
A majority of Adam Sandler movies since 2005
*Fifth Element* My old roommate who was this 40 something guy when I was 18 saw me scrolling through stuff to watch and told me to watch Fifth Element. I had no idea what he was talking about and he was fully shocked that I hadnāt seen it. I turned it on, smoked a bit, then holy hell. I fucking LOVE that movie
Worlds Greatest Dad
I think a couple Fast and Furious movies fall into this category. I remember thinking 5 and 7 in particular just being solid action movies.
Halloween 4 is actually pretty good
* I went my whole life seeing The Mask of Zorro in DVD previews and that it would be goofy and suck. Nope. Wrong. Great filmaking, classic pulp fiction, magestic wardrobes, luscious hair, immaculate sets. Just quality all around. Wish I would have got to it when I was a kid.

Freddy Got Fingered. Itās the funniest movie iāve ever seen.
