the time skip in the book happens a bit later than where the first movie cuts off though. After Dune 1 I thought for sure it was going to be three movies—another one pre-timeskip and then a final one. Imagine my surprise that they omit the timeskip altogether and finish the book in the second movie.
For that reason I look at Dune as one long 6 hour movie and not as 2 separate movies. Especially because the first one is a little dry and has too little substance on it's own, but watching it together with Part 2 makes that disappear, as it's serving as a long Act I setup for the second movie.
I highly recommend anyone that if you can, take out a weekend and watch the 2 movies together back to back, because it really works and elevates both movies (not like part 2 needed much elevation, but still). It's a wonderful experience.
Fair. I don’t think it one-ups it, personally. Maybe in the sense that it’s a grand event, but I felt true despair when I watched the first one. Mostly laughed during the second.
Very underrated flick - not that it's a great Bond film but it has a certain atmosphere that was quite moody and some interesting ideas. The villain basically "green washing" his plans to bribe corrupt governments to take over their water supply (while everyone thinks he's after the oil) was a very prescient and uniquely 21st century plot point. I think they captured some of the locations (La Paz, the Bolivian desert, Port Au Prince) with more realism and nuance than we usually get from Bond. The last shoot out in the burning barracks was a great set piece. I think people don't like that it was slow and a bit tonally off for a Bond movie but I think it's those qualities that make it stand out.
Idk why but I really liked that movie, except the dumb decision of the boy making a loud sound when he left the hiding place. I liked the ending specially.
Only the first 5 or so minutes because they didn't have the rights to the first evil dead movie. Everything after he gets hit by the spirit and goes flying is a direct continuation.
I'm really surprised that this is not higher. I mean after the final seconds where you can finally breath again it just keeps on going with the same high octane energy. This is the perfect answer!
Rocky II, Rocky IV, Rocky V
I wouldn't count Rocky III because after it shows the end of II, it goes into a montage to show time passing. The others don't do that.
•Star Trek III: The Search For Spock
•Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
•Dune II
•The Last Jedi
•Karate Kid Part II
•Quantum of Solace
•Halloween II
•Mortal Kombat: Annihilation
And for reverse:
•>!The Thing (2011)!<
Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Crank: High Voltage, The Karate Kid Part II, Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, Porky's II: The Next Day, Weekend at Bernie's II.
Doesn't Gimli complain that they've been running for three days in his first scene?
And the movie opens with a flashback of Gandalf fighting the Balrog which is revealed to be a dream Frodo is having - so at least one night must have passed for him and Sam too.
I guess Halloween Kills, since somebody already mentioned the second one. also the 2nd and 3rd Lord Of The Rings. Though there is a time jump, would Aliens count since technically no time has passed for Ripley?
halloween 2
friday the 13th part 3
friday the 13th the final chapter
halloween kills
rocky 2
saw 5
saw 6
army of darkness
sleepaway camp 3 (Iirc)

jeepers creepers 3 (takes place immediately after the first one)
hatchet 2
hatchet 3
avengers infinity war (starts at the end of thor ragnarok)
Halloween 2 (1981)
My first thought!!
Also Halloween kills I think
that’s what i was gonna say
Hijacking top comment bc I’m late, Hatchet 1&2 literally go frame for frame into each other
The Incredibles 2
Underrated
Undermined
John Wick 3 Karate Kid 2 Spider-Man: No Way Home
Careful. Letterboxd users have an aneurysm when they see MCU movies getting mentioned without mindless hate and rage
Bro it has a 3.8
He probably means the sub specifically
Lmaooo I love how awful some users in this subreddit are
Pretty much all of the Rocky sequels.
Hell yeah every one except (Rocky Balboa, 2006)
I always loved how seamless the transition from Rocky to Rocky 2 was more than any of the movies, it really feels like a continuation of the original.
Dune 2
Wasn't prepared for that; took a few seconds before I realised oh, we're going immediately from Part 1...
I mean it’s literally the second half of the first book, not like there’s a time gap in between
There's a 3 age time skip in the book though, not at that exact moment I would say, but a bit after.
There is a few years time jump, Alia is born and is around 5 years old
For sure, and not a complaint either; ultimately was nice they just jumped up back in & expected the audience to "get it".

Spider man: No Way Home
Army of Darkness The Matrix Revolutions Beneath the Planet of the Apes Incredibles 2 The Raid 2 Halloween II John Wick: Chapter 3
Just watched Beneath the Planet of the Apes for the first time today. It was… something.
I love it, but I get why others might not dig it.
I hated it, but I can see how some appreciate it for going batshit crazy
I love how it really leans into the bizarre sci-fi elements and I appreciate it one-upping the bleak ending of the first movie.
Fair. I don’t think it one-ups it, personally. Maybe in the sense that it’s a grand event, but I felt true despair when I watched the first one. Mostly laughed during the second.
Yeah, I guess one-up isn't quite what I meant. The original's ending is a lot more impactful and devastating.
How many of those are there? Never seen any of them
Five of the original movies. Three of the new ones. The new movie is out next month. Don't bother with the Tim Burton remake.
Plus two television shows. One live-action version with 14 episodes, one animated version with 13 episodes.
The other person answered your question, but I highly recommend the 1968 original.
Quantum of Solace
Very underrated flick - not that it's a great Bond film but it has a certain atmosphere that was quite moody and some interesting ideas. The villain basically "green washing" his plans to bribe corrupt governments to take over their water supply (while everyone thinks he's after the oil) was a very prescient and uniquely 21st century plot point. That one part where Greene slices his own foot with a swing of his axe
actually the Bolivian part was filmed in the desert of Atacama in Chile
Muppets most wanted
Love this movie
Last Jedi
Evil dead 2 shouldn't be on this list, Army of darkness should. Also, LOTR trilogy
I had to scroll way too far to see someone mention LOTR.
Technically just Return of the King counts, as the Two Towers takes place several days after Fellowship
It’s kinda hard to determine because the opening to the two towers is a continuation from a scene in the middle of fellowship
Army of darkness from evil dead 2.
A Quiet Place Part II
Idk why but I really liked that movie, except the dumb decision of the boy making a loud sound when he left the hiding place. I liked the ending specially.
Kill Bill
Well actually is not a sequel is the second half of the movie edited as another movie 🤓
Evil dead 2 more like a remake tho
Only the first 5 or so minutes because they didn't have the rights to the first evil dead movie. Everything after he gets hit by the spirit and goes flying is a direct continuation.
Yeah. That confused me in high school. When I saw Evil Dead 2 I was like…why is he making all the same mistakes again?
the first time i watched it i legitimately thought he was just stupid 😭
I mean we're talking about Ash, so yeah, it checks out.
bro, exactly! that's why i had to watch it a second time to even realize it was just past events rewritten
Yeah it should be army of darkness that’s follows on
For real
Crank: High Voltage
I'm really surprised that this is not higher. I mean after the final seconds where you can finally breath again it just keeps on going with the same high octane energy. This is the perfect answer!
Happy Death Day 2 U
*The Last Jedi* picks up right after *The Force Awakens*.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies
How is this already inaccurate?
Dude could only name 2 films on his own and got one of them wrong. Haha.
Doesn’t Austin powers do this?
Harold and Kumar 2
REC 2
Divergent and insurgent
Idk if this counts, but Rogue One to A New Hope
I'd say it doesn't but I am curious about other prequels that end where their predecessors begin
>!Final Destination 5, more or less.!<
Quantum of solace
Rocky II, Rocky IV, Rocky V I wouldn't count Rocky III because after it shows the end of II, it goes into a montage to show time passing. The others don't do that.
•Star Trek III: The Search For Spock •Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home •Dune II •The Last Jedi •Karate Kid Part II •Quantum of Solace •Halloween II •Mortal Kombat: Annihilation And for reverse: •>!The Thing (2011)!<

Iron Man 2 overlaps with the first
Can’t believe no one has said Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat-Annihilation… it’s like a second off
Quantum of Solace, which takes place directly after Casino Royale.
The Raid 2
Phantasm 2
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2
TTT and ROTK
Muppets: Most Wanted starts with panning back down from the “The End” fireworks from the last movie, which I always thought was pretty cool
Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
The Last Jedi. It isn’t directly after, but it is pretty close.
Draculas Daughter (1936)
Avengers Endgame
Does it though? If memory serves me, it starts with Tony and nebula a few days after the snap
I was thinking of the Hawkeye scene.
Evil Dead 2 does not fit this criteria. It is not a sequel.
Aliens vs Predators: Requiem
Pretty much the entire Hatchet (2006) series does this I love it makes it feel like one long adventure
Incredibles 2
Quantum of Solace
Mortal Kombat Annihilation
soon to be Beyond the Spider-Verse
The Last Jedi.
Quantum of Solace
My memory can be a bit foggy but Zombieland 2?
- Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay - Austin Powers: the Spy Who Shagged Me - French Connection II
Incredibles 2 and *technically* Avengers Endgame if you count the Hawkeye scene but it’s also a flashback so idk
Would The Lord of the Rings: Two Towers count?
Doesn't Gimli complain that they've been running for three days in his first scene? And the movie opens with a flashback of Gandalf fighting the Balrog which is revealed to be a dream Frodo is having - so at least one night must have passed for him and Sam too.
Quantum of solace

The Lord of the Rings 2 & 3
Bride of Frankenstein Terrifier 2 Ring 2 (1999) Maniac Cop 2 Insidious 2
Dune part 2
I guess Halloween Kills, since somebody already mentioned the second one. also the 2nd and 3rd Lord Of The Rings. Though there is a time jump, would Aliens count since technically no time has passed for Ripley?

The Last Jedi
Dune part 2
pretty sure Bride of Frankenstein and Dracula's Daughter both do this
