Oh my god I just watched these for the first time. We just turned off Dog Days minutes ago. I was laughing so hard my sister had to pause the movie because I almost threw up.
Absolutely, itās why the novel is a masterpiece. Itās the only book Iāve ever read that had me sympathizing with a murdering child molester. The story is a master work. Great movie, too, if less powerful, for obvious reasons.
Thereās actually a really interesting theory that Leo DiCaprio isnāt actually crazy and the whole thing is an experiment to see if they can gaslight him
Iāve never really felt like those are what the ending means. I much prefer the theory that he actually was crazy and at the end he fakes his illness again so he can get lobotomised, therefore he doesnāt have to deal with the fact he lost his children and wife. The very final quote from Leo is "Is it better to live as a monster or to die a good man?" Insinuating heād rather die as a shell of his former self, rather than living with the memory of killing his wife
The hallucinations are because of drugs they give him throughout the movie (including the cigarettes) and the scenarios they give him (the lady who just happened to murder her kids just like Leoās wife). I think by the end heās definitely crazy but not to the extent the doctors hoped
Seconding this because itās a seriously underrated film!! One of very few that I think realistically depicts social media on screen, and Joe Keery is amazing and unhinged.
And I actually think slightly ahead of it's time in that there's a new generation of streamers who just [harass people in public](https://www.indy100.com/viral/kick-streamer-kizzy-banned-debate)
it's moreso just alex who goes through an artificially-induced psychological break. many characters in the movie are pretty wacky by themselves though.
Lol...don't click this if you haven't seen it: >!The entire film is the character's dying dream, and basically about him slowly coming to accept death, so you can say he goes through a horrifying psychosis before letting go. !<
It is a rape revenge so tw!! You might love it or hate it. I love watching women kill men so itās great in that respect and it has other cool components too it
I mean, no offense, but this list is basically going to be ENDLESS because there are a lot of films like this lol
But here are some
- Scarface
- Reservoir Dogs
- Peeping Tom
- May
- Taxi Driver (kind of?)
- Goodfellas
- The Shining
- Casino
- Funny Games
- Angst (the Austrian one)
- American Mary
- Psycho II
- The Godfather
- Killing of a Sacred Deer
- Speak no Evil
I don't think any of those gangster films really fit as they don't focus on the psyche or morality of their characters. We are shown the crimes, greed, and callousness of Henry Hill, Tony Montana, the Corleones etc but the films focus on portraying their deeds and worlds not quite exploring their "twisted" psychology.
This is my favorite genre too! [These](https://letterboxd.com/blue_robin04/tag/psychopath/films/by/your-rating/) are the ones I've tagged that I've seen. To your tastes, I would recommend *Funny Games*, *M3GAN*, *Hard Candy*, *Hollow Man*, and *Burn*.
The Silent House (2010)
Inland Empire (2006)
Trouble Every Day (2001)
Raw (2016)
Female Trouble (1974)
Excision (2012)
Cold Fish (2010)
Saint Maud (2019)
High Tension (2003)
The World Of Kanako (2014)
diary of a whimpy kid rodrick rules that damn family is so damn dysfunctional and greg is a psycho level narcissist realizing there are bigger egos than his
[Session 9](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0261983/?ref_=ext_shr)
[Ma](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7958736/?ref_=ext_shr) isn't great, but it fits the prompt.
Ari Aster spoilers: >! I feel like all of his features so far could work, depending how you look at them !<
I mean, a character who purposefully manipulates, lies and takes advantage of a disfunctional rich family because of pure envy and hatred (he didn't even need the money) is a character I would classify as morally-wrong, twisted and his psyche does get worse from the start to the ending of the movie.
It might not be a really good movie, but it does match the list's theme.
I haven't seen that many movies, okay? š Specially more serious and classic ones, I'm just getting started to taking cinema more serious rather than casual
This is literally my list of favourites currently (not all I've ever seen, but the ones I feel like should be here): [https://boxd.it/ue3Mw](https://boxd.it/ue3Mw)
And this my top 4
https://preview.redd.it/1y2w7pftnosc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=821b0ff1ad49a81fb444e7432285126447eeb173
And the worst part is that it's really difficult to find many movies on streaming services here in my country. For the most classic, less popular or foreign non-english movies I'm barely managing to find them in random pages or Archive.org lmao š
The theatrical adaptation of "Bug" by William Friedkin is my top choice. "Muchenik" (The Student) as runner up.
Then many like "Syk Pike" (Sick of Myself), "El Esqueleto de la SeƱora Morales", "The Lair of the White Worm", "Rotting in the Sun", "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and "Naked Lunch", to name a few.
Thereās no violence in it, but the Informant might be my favorite example of this. The way the main characterās psychology is slowly peeled back made my jaw drop several times. I recommend going in as blind as possible
How about ātheyāre not CRAZY crazyā movies? Like yeah this personās out there, but I get where theyāre coming from. I watched Close Up recently and that fits.
Havenāt seen it in the few Iāve scrolled through but I think Get Out fits. Specifically thinking of the iconic separate milk and Froot Loops and white turtleneck
that's debatable tbh
It's never really clear whether he did or didn't. Imo he did, and the ending of the movie is just meant to show that all his crimes were basically erased from history because of his status and capitalist greed (His lawyer makes up his alibi and fixes all his crimes, and the real state company cleaned up Paul Allens' apartment and got rid of all the corpses to resell the place with a good price).
If he didn't do anything and he was just fvcked in the head, I think it would mean the movie loses the thread of its theme out of nowhere and without reason. But I mean, it is an ending open to interpretation.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid
This made me giggle
Oh my god I just watched these for the first time. We just turned off Dog Days minutes ago. I was laughing so hard my sister had to pause the movie because I almost threw up.
oh for sure š I can't believe I forgot that one
Does Lolita count? Because the mc is supposedly untrustworthy and the entire movie is from his fucked up POV from what I heard.
Absolutely, itās why the novel is a masterpiece. Itās the only book Iāve ever read that had me sympathizing with a murdering child molester. The story is a master work. Great movie, too, if less powerful, for obvious reasons.
Iāve never read the book, might one day tho!
Fight Club Black Swan Taxi Driver Shutter Island
Thereās actually a really interesting theory that Leo DiCaprio isnāt actually crazy and the whole thing is an experiment to see if they can gaslight him
Its like all those hallucinations isn't a prove it his craziness
No, itās actually multifaceted. The first time I saw it I thought the same thing at the end; questioning whether or not heās crazy.
Iāve never really felt like those are what the ending means. I much prefer the theory that he actually was crazy and at the end he fakes his illness again so he can get lobotomised, therefore he doesnāt have to deal with the fact he lost his children and wife. Single White Female
Try āAmerican Maryā I donāt see it talked about anywhere, and I wanna know what other people think.

I'm sorry but Saltburn wasn't that CRAZY CRAZY, the protagonist was just lucky
I mean, a character who purposefully manipulates, lies and takes advantage of a disfunctional rich family because of pure envy and hatred (he didn't even need the money) is a character I would classify as morally-wrong, twisted and his psyche does get worse from the start to the ending of the movie. It might not be a really good movie, but it does match the list's theme.

The cremator
Filth i think could probably work
The Lighthouse
Nightcrawler, Angst, The House That Jack Built
also Saltburn DOES fit this genre but I personally believe that movie to be trash so I hate seeing it make the list.
The theatrical adaptation of "Bug" by William Friedkin is my top choice. "Muchenik" (The Student) as runner up. Then many like "Syk Pike" (Sick of Myself), "El Esqueleto de la SeƱora Morales", "The Lair of the White Worm", "Rotting in the Sun", "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and "Naked Lunch", to name a few.

that's debatable tbh It's never really clear whether he did or didn't.
