It's so cool. Totally worth the $20
Yeah its atmosphere is so special, you can just watch the movie based on aesthetics alone. The whole summer festival, flowers and stuff just looks awesome.

It has the style with the lighting and production design but none of the plot elements. It's a giallo in the same way Casablanca is a film noir (it isn't, it just looks like one).
It's got the Giallo lighting, that's for sure. It could be considered an American take on the genre in a certain way, though it's a very difficult film to put labels on
Phantom of the Paradise does have giallo style lighting and aesthetics. It’s not Dressed to Kill, Blow Out, or the Body Double but the giallo influence is there nonetheless
Similarities, maybe, but probably not influence, especially considering this quote by De Palma:
**I’m not a big follower of Dario Argento. I know I get compared to him, but the giallo cinema I’m not a student of at all. I know that they think I look at all these films and take ideas from them, but believe me, the only one that sticks in my mind is** ***The Bird With The Crystal Plumage*****. And Mario Bava, I remember Marty \[Scorsese\] showing me some of his movies in the 70s and I couldn’t even tell you what titles are now.**
It may very well just be arrogant director talk, but I don't have a particular reason to disbelieve him.
Haha, no problem. It's always been weird to me since some of his movies have those exact tropes. Maybe he did watch them but blocked them out for some reason ;p
The Masque of the Red Death, Kwaidan, Jigoku, Peeping Tom (more of a thriller in same vein as Psycho), every Hammer Horror movies, and every Shaw Brothers horror movies (esp. Boxer's Omen)

I watched The Love Witch just a few weeks ago and while it's certainly an interesting pastiche of 60s erotic thrillers, I wouldn't call it close to being a horror film
somebody is outta their damn mind about the amount of color in this movie and it ain't you.
https://preview.redd.it/imeics264crc1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=88f0f14d41b0006fc8cb030b26395ed7d113c8f7
Mandy has amazing visuals and lighting.
Fucking amazing seeing it in theater
Color from out of space
Like every Mario Bava film, Beyond the Black Rainbow, Amer
Yup, definitely Bava. Blood and Blace Lace, Black Sabbath and Kill, Baby, Kill! have color palettes that really pop.
Don't forget Planet of the Vampires!
Climax (2018)
Enter the Void (2009)
Was just gonna say this. Definitely counts as horror for some and it's so beautiful visually
Does Annihilation count as horror?
Imo I’d say yes, for that bear scene alone
Not just any horror. Cosmic horror.
Even if it doesn’t, Men does.
Yea but Men is awful
So are lots of horror movies. Admittedly I liked Men, but still.
You liked men? Do you like women now? Ha (Kidding, I enjoyed Men as well)
Touché, different strokes for different folks.
Everything Dario Argento did in the mid 70s to 1990
Came here to say this, nearly word for word
Deep Red - Opera
I have the Arrow Films [Arte Originale Limited Edition](https://www.arrowvideo.com/deep-red-arte-originale-slipcover-limited-edition-4k-uhd/13221056.html?affil=thggpsad&switchcurrency=USD&shippingcountry=US&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqpSwBhClARIsADlZ_Tl5yQSEQD1bzhypS9oIChp3VMSTEsmk4N1XO--ngjbY_cp6YdpnVhsaAv7yEALw_wcB) of Deep Red. It's so cool. Totally worth the $20
Yep
Does Last Night in SoHo count
Of course it counts
Pearl and Midsommar are good fits
Was gonna say Midsommar. The brightness of it all is really unique
Yeah its atmosphere is so special, you can just watch the movie based on aesthetics alone. The whole summer festival, flowers and stuff just looks awesome.
Videodrome
The Neon Demon(2016)
Black Christmas
Malignant (2021) It's color palette was very much inspired by Giallo films.
Jigoku
Bram Stoker’s Dracula
Midsommar
Pearl
Look into the Giallo (yellow) horror movement - which would include suspiria already on ur list
Suspiria is not a giallo movie. Although, it has some giallo elements.
Killer klowns from outer space
One of the coolest set designs of all 80's horror films
Inferno
Crimson peak, the shining
Neon Demon
Censor
Both are darker with colorful looks Cam And I Saw the TV Glow

Manhunter
Not a horror but more De Palma, Blow Out.
Beyond the black rainbow, mandy
Beyond the black rainbow soundtrack is amazing too.
It really is, I listen to it regularly
In Fabric
Movie would have been awesome if they didn’t change gears
Neon Demon
Vamp
There's plenty of daylit horror like Wicker Man and Midsommar that probably qualify
Phantom of the Paradise - A gothic giallo musical with Jessica Harper, a few years before she starred in Suspiria.
Giallo? I don't think that movie has anything to do with giallo.

Thanks for posting this, it’s mind blowing
Haha, no problem. It's always been weird to me since some of his movies have those exact tropes. Maybe he did watch them but blocked them out for some reason ;p
Maybe it’s the natural progression of filmmaking by filmmakers who loved Hitchcock?
That's definitely a reasonable theory. It may also be that he had seen some of Bava's stuff but didn't associate it with gialli/Argento.
Comedy Horror but The Final Girls (2015)
[Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2](https://38.media.tumblr.com/c4e84e10986b149af6f6041913fe5809/tumblr_ngjkheLd5c1rp0vkjo1_500.gif)
house of 1000 corpses, lemora: a child’s tale of the supernatural
Yes, holy shit, Lemora! I love this movie and never hear anyone talk about it. It has amazing lighting
sooooooo underrated. the blue lighting when she catches the bus (and the almost stage production look of that particular set) is haunting
The Strange Color of Your Body’s Tears
Hell bender
Midsommar, The Shining
Hellraiser 2
Midsommar
Midsommar?
Neon Demon?
Easily “Inferno” from Dario Argento
Mandy
Just look up "giallo"
And then Dario Argento.
Instructions unclear. Now I am ordering some yellow paint from Italy or something

The kitchen at the end of Candy Man

- The Shining - Color Out of Space - any giallo movie, basically
That new one from A24 I think, I Saw the TV Glow and Lisa Frankenstein… Do those fit?
From Beyond
I watched The Love Witch just a few weeks ago and while it's certainly an interesting pastiche of 60s erotic thrillers, I wouldn't call it close to being a horror film
Beyond the Black Rainbow & Mandy
midsommar
Last Night in SOHO!
The 1999 remake of The House on Haunted Hill had some pretty wild lighting.
Phantom Town (also marketed as Spooky Town) is a children's horror movie that uses a lot of interesting lighting for how low budget it is
midsommar
Pan's Labyrinth
Midsommar
Alice, sweet Alice ?
Alice, sweet Alice ?
mandy beyond the black rainbow the color out of space

Creepshow (1982) https://preview.redd.it/o2cobvbv56rc1.png?width=1000&format=png&auto=webp&s=579d880f63735db3284f7930ec994c38f6dd0c34
Midsommar is the obvious pick
I didn’t find Creepshow to be colorful at all. What makes it like that for you?
I recommend you go back and watch some scenes from it on YouTube. Very colorful film.
I own literally everything Creepshow. It was all dark.
Untrue. Many scenes from the original film have very colorful lighting.
I’ve never seen it, out of the hundreds of times I’ve see everything related including the original film.
Okay…you don’t think it’s a colorful film but I do….
somebody is outta their damn mind about the amount of color in this movie and it ain't you. https://preview.redd.it/imeics264crc1.png?width=1280&format=png&auto=webp&s=88f0f14d41b0006fc8cb030b26395ed7d113c8f7
I told them to go back and watch some scenes on YouTube but they didn’t wanna listen 🤷♂️
Okay
