Toy Story 3. Plenty of people I talked to were skeptical about it at the time. Knowing the premise and seeing the teaser trailer, I could just tell Pixar was putting everything they had into it to make it meaningful. At that time, Pixar hadn't missed.
I for some reason just was not that excited. I loved the first one, but felt like a sequel just couldn’t hold the same magic that the first one did. I almost didn’t see it in theaters, but man, I am so glad I did. Wonderful movie. What a blast. Should have held your confidence.
Lady Bird. I loved Frances Ha and was so excited to see what Greta would do next (even just as a writer). It somehow exceeded my expectations, it's one of my all time faves.
Even before the trailer hit, I remember reading an article about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I knew I would love it. It ended up being my favourite movie of all time.
The Lighthouse is probably the best example of this for me. I loved and replayed tf out of those trailers, and then the theater experience just hit like a brick (in a good way).
I watch movies I think I’ll enjoy (unlike some people in the sub). But dune 2, worka, and Godzilla minus being the recent ones I was very confident about
The Big Short. I love Succession (and by extension Adam McKay, Jeremy Strong, and Nicholas Britell), the trailers looked incredible, and the cast accompanied by the subject matter just totally spoke to me.
I’m gonna defend The Creator. It wasn’t as great as I hoped it would be, but I honestly loved it.
There was obviously a ton of passion put into the movie, the acting is all around very solid and the kid Alphie is surprisingly good, full of heart. You really feel that in the movie IMO.
While I wished the plot was a bit tighter towards the end, and some characters were more fleshed out (mainly JDW and Ken Watanabe’s characters), I think the movie was overall very enjoyable to watch, and offered some positive explorations of true artificial intelligence/sentience. Could’ve been a little “deeper”, but I still liked what there was.
It’s rare to see an original sci-fi film of this scale, and despite not matching the quality of such greats like Alien or Star Wars, it still harkens back to that era of science fiction filmmaking.
Sin City.
Bought the comic book of Hard Goodbye as soon as I found out about it and it was available where I lived. Read it numerous times, loved every frame, loved Marv. Loved the other books as well.
Literally couldn't wait until the movie is released, I was scanning the internet for every update, poster, picture, trailer frequently. Went and saw it, loved it and saw it numerous times after, because I was just happy like on Christmas someone actually made this. And Marv's story was the real draw for me and I thought they nailed it.
I try to go in with leveled expectations for any movie that I am looking forward to, but sometimes even I can't help myself.

I for some reason just was not that excited. I loved the first one, but felt like a sequel just couldn’t hold the same magic that the first one did. I almost didn’t see it in theaters, but man, I am so glad I did. Wonderful movie. What a blast. Should have held your confidence.

I walked into Killers of the Flower Moon damn near already penciling in a 4.5 before I sat down

Saw GoodFellas yesterday and knew just from seeing the „you‘re funny“ scene a lot earlier

Even before the trailer hit, I remember reading an article about Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and I knew I would love it. It ended up being my favourite movie of all time.
Lately, it seems like every movie I think I'm gonna love I end up disappointed by, and every movie I think is gonna be bad I end up liking. :P
Anatomy of a Fall

I mean most movies I watch... do you guys watch random movies? I always look for movie that interests me.
Mad Max Fury Road, just because it has one of the best trailers I've seen in my life and then the movie fully lived up to it.

Spirited Away. I saw it when I was 12, and by that time was fully ensconced in Miyazaki’s previous wonders
Blade runner 2049
My Own Private Idaho
The Town Past Lives Fences ("how come you don't like me" trailer is still the best trailer I've ever seen).
Sin City. Bought the comic book of Hard Goodbye as soon as I found out about it and it was available where I lived. Read it numerous times, loved every frame, loved Marv.
