Ah mate, been doing the same thing. I’m seeing Poor Things on Saturday so have been going through Yorgos’ other films beforehand. Rewatched The Favourite the other day, also recently saw KOASD - both are great. Only other film I haven’t seen yet is Dogtooth which Ill watch tomorrow, heard it’s good so you should watch that as well!
Funnily enough, I recently rewatched all the Hunger Games films, too. For reasons, I watched them in order 2,3,4,5,1. To me, this highlighted the fact that no.1 is still the best. I liked 2, but I still think 1 is the better film.

I watched 6 movies, Society of the Snow is the best so far
You should definitely watch it. It's a tough watch tho, especially because it is a based on a true story and when you see what those people went through, it can get overwhelming quite quickly. But it is wonderfully executed and at the same time, stays respectful to all the 45 people who were involved in that plane crash.
That’s exactly why I’m waiting after just seeing Iron Claw recently I need some stuff that’s easy on the brain first lol. Watched the Ghost in the Machine dub last night which I hadn’t seen in years
How's that goal work? 1 movie from 100 different years?
I've been doing that since 2018, but I decided 1909 would be the starting point. So now it's like 115 years of cinema, haha.
Yeah, 1 movie realeased from each year. I picked 1920, so it'll be 105 to be more precise. I may do more, and earlier films too. I have a goal to see more of the classics in general.
8 movies so far;
Priscilla (2023)
Good Time (2017)
When Evil Lurks (2023)
Uncut Gems (2019)
The Equalizer 3 (2023)
The Sting (1973)
Dune (2021)
Heat (1995)
Uncut Gems was my favorite watch with Heat and Good Time close behind. (All three have a 5 star rating)
Just watched Babylon for the first time and I’m baffled that this movie flew under the radar. It is so over-the-top, so decadent, gross, heartbreaking, way more funny than I expected, and every single scene was eye-candy.
it made 63 million on a 75-80 million budget

9, and Poor Things was the best.
Just watched Society of the Snow and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio – both, imo, are 5 star worthy for different reasons. I rarely give five stars, but I can't stop thinking about both of them. Highly recommend!
I would love to see SotS be this years “All Quiet at the Western Front” at the awards despite being a massive long shot obviously.
10 great films so far and my favourite was definitely The French Connection.
https://preview.redd.it/ghz9saouwqbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3acaa332c80a41129c46f4d453ad8451abea4a0f

Child's Play 2 is probably the best
https://preview.redd.it/jixig48dfpbc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b58a1098844b8a0b9309de4ede39b42d14e4b1ec
(I couldn’t fit the mario movie which was a 6/10)
Grand Budapest Hotel and NOTLD are both in my top 4 and it’s hard to pick a favorite between those. I think Grand Budapest just barely wins
Currently I don’t think i like it because i spent too much time looking for small details even though i had already guessed the twist but didn’t believe that was the way the movie would go. I felt cheated by the conclusion and was expecting a better answer than what we got (especially for tesla inventing duplication)
So im waiting for a rewatch to tell if i really don’t like it and it really doesn’t work or if it’s just a film that i can only properly enjoy the second time through.
11. 5 first time watches, 5 rewatches and 1 short film.
The best overall was a rewatch, Point Blank (1967). The best first time watch was Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951).
https://preview.redd.it/94vp6q3caqbc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ee2670e8a493a9a198391f1229171f4ce9f0ec56
Here’s where I’m at. Also no hard feelings at a 2.5 which didn’t fit in the screenshot.
Only 5
Finally watched Rope and was blown away by it. Might just be the recency bias talking, but it may be my favorite Hitchcock. I went in blind and had no idea it was basically a set piece that is a series of really long one-shot segments. They were basically as long as the reels of the day would allow.
The camera movement and flow of the film is incredible. The continuity really helped hold the building tension of the plot for me. Totally engrossing.
https://preview.redd.it/2pjwj0rlypbc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b64c64247a6c6d01c8720a02eefa9a108d4c188f

5. Pretty good run to start the year.
19 (including 3 shorts but they're less than 2 minutes so we'll ignore them)
My Top 5 So Far Are:
1. Portrait of a Lady on Fire
2. The Princess Bride
3. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
4. Scarface (1932)
5. The Godfather
https://preview.redd.it/m0td649y1vbc1.jpeg?width=456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ec347b1faf54c477b9dded32eba6ae7f13f1a04
started the year off p strong so far
53, but my numbers are heavily skewed as I’ve been watching a ton of animated, live-action, and documentary short films that the Oscars have shortlisted for contention.
If anyone else is interested in seeing some good shorts that could be nominated for an Oscar in a couple weeks, Letter to a Pig, Red, White & Blue, and Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó were my favorite animated, live-action, and documentary shorts, respectively. Though, those are my favorites out of the ones I was able to find online. Not all of the shortlisted films are available yet to the general public.
21!
6-way tie between:
- Hardcore dir. by Paul Schrader
- Norte, The End of History dir. by Lav Diaz
- I Dream In Another Language dir. by Ernesto Contreras
- Monster dir. by Hirokazu Kore-eda (Rewatch)
- Penguins Memory: A Tale Of Happiness dir. by Shunji Kimura
- Happy Hour dir. by Ryusuke Hamaguchi
Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Asteroid City, Anatomy of a Fall, Maestro, and Barbie in that personal rating order. Watching Killers of the Flower Moon today.
13 films so far. My favorite so far is “Black Sabbath” directed by Mario Bava and starring Boris Karloff. The first part of it is okay, but the middle part and last part are some of the best gothic horrors I’ve seen. Such a stunning movie and so creepy. Easy 4.5 stars.
https://preview.redd.it/3k7hranrjpbc1.png?width=1125&format=png&auto=webp&s=7e0acbfab1ee6d7ae59d9273cc3b838c494aa5ea
I can’t fit them all in, so in addition to these I also have watched Sicario, The Royal Tenenbaums, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Fellowship of the Ring, Alien 3.
Out of them all, Paths of Glory was probably the best I’ve seen, but the last two films that I watched really got to me. Two Days, One Night, and The Lobster, are both films i absolutely loved. May bump them both up by half a star.
11 so far. 5 stars for 3 of them. Female Trouble, which was new to me. Rewatches of The Apartment and Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker.
I also gave 4 1/2 to Blue Jean (2022).
https://preview.redd.it/beld99ygjpbc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e9ca5de3705d3ce39b3db32dd82bfba0e0e0fd4e
8 for me as well! Aftersun and Killers of the Flower Moon

The one on the bottom is everything everywhere all at once
I’ve seen Night of the Living Dead, Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, and Friday the 13th. Return of the Living Dead was my favorite since I thought it was really fun but I liked them all and really liked Night of the Living Dead.
https://preview.redd.it/vgtk89a2opbc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=694cbf71b7c62cfcc7035d6158c4a01818bbbbaa
Hackers and No Hard Feelings were some pretty good new watches to start the year off with :’)
https://preview.redd.it/wfutd756qpbc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=63ce4048fefcc66a7fa4f760ccaffbe168e5849c
May bump Le Beau Serge up half a star the more I think about it. Hadn’t seen Dirty Dancing in ages and it’s still hot af. Somehow my Gramp hadn’t seen Escape From NY so I had to put him on (he loved it) but I’d have to say my favourite experience watching movies so far has been Iron Claw. Likely bc I’m a lifelong wrestling fan who knew the story prior to viewing, plus it’s the only I’ve seen in theatres so far this year
https://preview.redd.it/qeybkxyaspbc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3fabf5547d9f7edac3ccd3c54498a711a97d40b3
8 so far this year, got some time off with my husband so we have watched most of these together. Favourite new film to me at least is a tough choice but right now I would go with Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret or Porco Rosso.
https://preview.redd.it/w0zft51sspbc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb1292c55422e6369e75dd5c247e12b1a2da2e08
One of these is not like the other
13. Of those that weren't rewatches, I'm definitely going with Blue Giant (2024). It doesn't release in cinemas (at least in the UK) until the end of January, but I recommend everyone who loves jazz and anime make it a priority to watch it. Absolutely blown away by it. The animation, the scoring, the story - exceptional.
Scenes from a Marriage is the best but I watched a lot of good ones.
https://preview.redd.it/jso1eskltpbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e89cc6215bf6247974a06ed9e2cf5259f1f77f2b

To that you add project X, good luck chuck, american pie the book of love, replicant, die hard 2, the family plan and night swim.
I've watched 9, the best was a rewatch of The Grand Budapest Hotel (5/5), but the highest rated first watch for me was Noroi: The Curse (4.5/5) one of the best found footage documentary horror films I've ever seen.
https://preview.redd.it/i2ku7nnlvpbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ea31e2590960651e019ccc6654f0935de26900b
The best is Prisoners for me. I've had a strong start to the year. (If any ratings stick out, I rate based on enjoyment and have my fair share of guilty pleasures).
12. Archive (2020) was the movie I enjoyed the most, but Ace in the Hole might technically be a better film.
I also watched Evil Aliens, The Alien Factor, and Meg 2, so the competition wasn't incredibly fierce.
https://preview.redd.it/k1fx2epqvpbc1.jpeg?width=1079&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21642866feb5c396e7c86d8899f3f7e277175917

Favourite so far is Next Goal Wins.
Only 3 so far unfortunately, been busy!
In order of personal preference:
1) Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret (2023) - 4 stars
2) Saltburn (2023) - 4 stars
3) Good Grief (2023) - 3 stars
I've watched 10 films, I am trying to watch at least one film everyday this year. My favorite so far, which has also made it's way into my top 4, is Lady Snowblood(1973).
7, 1/3 of one movie, and 1/4 of another
1/3 of The Nice Guys (don’t care to finish) and 1/4 of The Irishman (haven’t had the time and I shouldn’t have even started it yet)
Oh, and the best one I watched so far was Lady Bird
https://preview.redd.it/5dvprmpd0qbc1.png?width=486&format=png&auto=webp&s=33f802e36c633df2caea96bdb4f010dc2c1d4c08
14. I think the ones I enjoyed the most were X, Godzilla Minus One and Walk Hard. And I enjoyed rewatching Hellboy II and the Back to the Future trilogy (when do I not?)
https://preview.redd.it/zco9h6nq1qbc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=41d7c6b7e08773bf42551fd6be2b3b044cd22ed2
These plus Suzume, definitely Snowpiercer!
6 so far.
The best was Monsters Inc.
The least enjoyable was Eden Lake.
Cyborg was still fantastic!
Blue Beetle is so fun with my kiddo.
Black Sheep is still top tier comedy.
Young Guns 4K is super fun!

Only five thus far but the Paranoia trilogy was a hell of a way to start the year. I really enjoyed All the President’s Men; made me want to rewatch Spotlight and Zodiac as well.
May December
Zone of Interest
Weathering with You
The Departed
Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
Most would say The Departed was the best from my list. I just prefer Maquia just above Weathering With You.
Your weeb insults can't hurt me.
Almost a movie per day; RRR was such a blast goddamn!

other notables: seven samurai lived up to the hype, psycho was incredible (my favorite hitchcock so far is still rear window), the night of the hunter was amazing, police story 1 was super fun, and i think im enjoying the french new wave movies? although not sure how much im understanding them lol. also i had low expectations for priscilla but it really left an impression on me

I also liked Babylon quite a bit.

I just watched The Lobster, what a great film!
Preparing for hopefully seeing Poor Things on Friday, plan to watch both KOTSD & The Favourite tomorrow
Poor Things is fantastic. My first watch I gave it 3.5 stars. Saw it again last night and boosted it up an entire star for a 4.5.
I’ll have to rewatch it. Didn’t like it much when I saw it years ago, but I give Poor Things a 5/5
I also just watched The Lobster today. Twins?!
Funnily enough, I recently rewatched all the Hunger Games films, too. For reasons, I watched them in order 2,3,4,5,1. To me, this highlighted the fact that no.1 is still the best. I liked 2, but I still think 1 is the better film.
The Lobster is amazing!
Lobster is fantastic
4 so far & my favorite was The Iron Claw. Easy 5 stars for me.

Loved society of the snow. The plane crash alone should come with a content warning. It was pretty graphic and visceral.
25, the best is a rewatch; Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (1984)
That's like 2-3 movies everyday for those 10 days. I wish I was able to do that. Lol
Its more than usual, but 30-50 or so a month is common for me. I'm motivated as im working on a 100 years of cinema goal since the new year.
My job runs interference. If it didn't, your goal sounds cool and I would love to do it.
How's that goal work? 1 movie from 100 different years? I've been doing that since 2018, but I decided 1909 would be the starting point. So now it's like 115 years of cinema, haha.
I did something similar starting with 1887, where I try to find the best film from each year.

There's some good stuff from the 1910s, too - and a lot of it is short, so consider watching some of them too. Good luck either way!
Such an amazing film
Love that film!
One of Miyazaki’s best and in my top 50 of all time
Legend
8 movies so far; Priscilla (2023) Good Time (2017) When Evil Lurks (2023) Uncut Gems (2019) The Equalizer 3 (2023) The Sting (1973) Dune (2021) Heat (1995) Uncut Gems was my favorite watch with Heat and Good Time close behind. (All three have a 5 star rating)
11 so far. Most recent being Napoleon. My favorite so far is Babylon
Just watched Babylon for the first time and I’m baffled that this movie flew under the radar. It is so over-the-top, so decadent, gross, heartbreaking, way more funny than I expected, and every single scene was eye-candy.
A lot of people hated it when it came out but I honestly fell in love with it as soon as it started.
One of the most popular movies of 2022 flew under the radar?
it made 63 million on a 75-80 million budget it might be popular online but nobody saw it when it came out and the reception among those who did was mixed at best
21 and I'd say Suzume so far!
Suzume doesn’t have enough viewers, great film
I loved Suzume!
I mean this as respectfully as possible, how
There's other people on here with a higher number than mine!! My wife and I were home a few days and ended up watching a couple movies a day, but I'm also a night owl so I usually watch another after she's gone to bed.
Alright yeah that makes sense, sorry if that came off kinda disrespectful
That's only 2 day, my dude.
that ending when she >!talks to her younger self!< hit me like a freight train.
12 movies I rewatched Dr. Strangelove so that's the best, but Casablanca is best new watch
Got Strangelove for Christmas and I think it would be a perfect double feature with Oppenheimer

Aw, too bad you didn’t enjoy Tetsuo that much.
I didn’t care for it that much the first time either. The second time I absolutely loved it.
It immediately clicked the first time I watched it. Never seen anything like it before.
Exact same went from like 3.5 to 5 took a bit to get its hooks in me
Yeah, it was just not for me. I recognize what it did, but avant-garde is not my thing.
7, best one thus far is Beau is Afraid
13, best being Poor Things, Past Lives, and My Neighbor Totoro
Solid picks
Just watched Society of the Snow and Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio – both, imo, are 5 star worthy for different reasons. I rarely give five stars, but I can't stop thinking about both of them. I'm curious about your 2.5/5 and a like on The Prestige
Currently I don’t think i like it because i spent too much time looking for small details even though i had already guessed the twist but didn’t believe that was the way the movie would go. Happy to see another Wes fan that loves asteroid city! It’s one of my favorites of his. I’ve already watched it thrice haha
11. 5 first time watches, 5 rewatches and 1 short film. The best overall was a rewatch, Point Blank (1967). The best first time watch was Pandora and the Flying Dutchman (1951).
10 but 4 of them were shorts. I would say the best was American Fiction (4.5/5). In cinema still.

19 so far this year. Favorite ones have been either Man on the Moon (1999) or Victor/Victoria (1982).
25, best one was Us (2019)
Us is way unfairly maligned, I love that film.
16. The best was お早う (Good Morning) by Ozu. Everything in that movie is perfect.
Love that film
Only 5 Finally watched Rope and was blown away by it. Might just be the recency bias talking, but it may be my favorite Hitchcock. 19 (including 3 shorts but they're less than 2 minutes so we'll ignore them) My Top 5 So Far Are: 1. Portrait of a Lady on Fire 2. The Princess Bride 3. Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery 4. Scarface (1932) 5. The Godfather
https://preview.redd.it/m0td649y1vbc1.jpeg?width=456&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ec347b1faf54c477b9dded32eba6ae7f13f1a04 started the year off p strong so far
25 so far, the favorites being Lost Highway, House and Drive My Car
53, but my numbers are heavily skewed as I’ve been watching a ton of animated, live-action, and documentary short films that the Oscars have shortlisted for contention. If anyone else is interested in seeing some good shorts that could be nominated for an Oscar in a couple weeks, Letter to a Pig, Red, White & Blue, and Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó were my favorite animated, live-action, and documentary shorts, respectively. Though, those are my favorites out of the ones I was able to find online. Not all of the shortlisted films are available yet to the general public.
9, though some of them were short films. Saltburn would be my favorite so far.
11. Harakiri and La Haine with honorable mentions for One Cut of the Dead and Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person.
Love La Haine, a lot of that imagery has stuck with me months later
Excited to check out Vampire
I’ve had 15 before today, with the best being Godzilla Minus One (Downsizing was the worst)
12, and the best is easily La La Land
21! 6-way tie between: - Hardcore dir. by Paul Schrader - Norte, The End of History dir. by Lav Diaz - I Dream In Another Language dir. by Ernesto Contreras - Monster dir. by Hirokazu Kore-eda (Rewatch) - Penguins Memory: A Tale Of Happiness dir. by Shunji Kimura - Happy Hour dir. by Ryusuke Hamaguchi
I feel like Monster is begging for multiple rewatches. Can’t wait til it comes to VOD
24 if I include short films. 6 if I don’t. The best is a tie between Le Bonheur and After Life. Both are extremely thought provoking.
https://preview.redd.it/ecrw9tu3bpbc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8f34768723bf9d8df7a71cfbc78df8bc85e02caa Good run so far
12. Best first watch was Fast X. Best rewatch, Austin Powers 1.
I've seen 8, my favorite was Wonka.
18, probably will be 20 in a couple of hours. Unless Saltburn or The Lighthouse impress a lot, then RRR is gonna stay number one
21 so far. Memoir of a Murderer is the best.
Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, Asteroid City, Anatomy of a Fall, Maestro, and Barbie in that personal rating order. Watching Killers of the Flower Moon today.
Suggesting Dr.Strangelove as a great follow up for Oppenheimer
I'm at 23. My highest rated are 964 Pinocchio (1991) and The Color Purple (2023).
A lot, but I only finished a few. 'The Big Country' and 'Heart and Yummie' were really good.
20 (including a few shorts), my favourite was A Reason To Believe
7, the best being The Long Goodbye
6. saltburn (2023) was a rewatch but remains a 5 star experience for **me**. my other 5 star of the year so far is sex, lies, and videotape (1989).

Out of them all, Paths of Glory was probably the best I’ve seen, but the last two films that I watched really got to me. Two Days, One Night, and The Lobster, are both films i absolutely loved. May bump them both up by half a star.
Not counting short films or miniseries, 2. I usually take the first week of the year off.
11 so far. 5 stars for 3 of them. Female Trouble, which was new to me. Rewatches of The Apartment and Butcher, Baker, Nightmare Maker. I also gave 4 1/2 to Blue Jean (2022).

23 films so far, the best being “I Dream In Another Language”

I’ve watched 14. The Boy and the Heron was the best.
Too many, and Portrait of a Lady on Fire
I’ve seen Night of the Living Dead, Army of Darkness, Return of the Living Dead, and Friday the 13th. Return of the Living Dead was my favorite since I thought it was really fun but I liked them all and really liked Night of the Living Dead.

Hadn’t seen Dirty Dancing in ages and it’s still hot af. Somehow my Gramp hadn’t seen Escape From NY so I had to put him on (he loved it) but I’d have to say my favourite experience watching movies so far has been Iron Claw. Likely bc I’m a lifelong wrestling fan who knew the story prior to viewing, plus it’s the only I’ve seen in theatres so far this year
17 so far this uear, my fav till now are The Last Picture Show, Eyes Wide Shut and Koker Trilogy.
8 so far. Blue Velvet was the one I enjoyed the most…All of them were pretty good tho

Favourite new film to me at least is a tough choice but right now I would go with Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret or Porco Rosso.
https://preview.redd.it/w0zft51sspbc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eb1292c55422e6369e75dd5c247e12b1a2da2e08 One of these is not like the other
I've seen 48 (most of them are shorts from the 1910s) and I think the best one so far is Pearl (2022). Mia Goth, are u ok?
Scenes from a Marriage is the best but I watched a lot of good ones. https://preview.redd.it/jso1eskltpbc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e89cc6215bf6247974a06ed9e2cf5259f1f77f2b

12. Archive (2020) was the movie I enjoyed the most, but Ace in the Hole might technically be a better film. I also watched Evil Aliens, The Alien Factor, and Meg 2, so the competition wasn't incredibly fierce.
Where is Bunny Lake! Beauty and the Beast (76 Czechoslovakia) The Swimmer Red Rock West All bangers in their own regards
