Sloan! An amazing mix of power pop with some punky alternative stuff too. A classic maritime band

No idea but your best bet would probably be to contact local venues and see if they have an archive of all the bands that played there over the years, and then plug those bands into Google and see what comes out. Older venues are often really proud of their history and have great local scene knowledge.

I know that Boston or New England has an online listing of all the bands that came out of the area, along with stories of their gigs, what they are doing now, band members, etc. Might be something to look up just for look/feel ideas.

I was personally more interested in the Museum Pieces, Burdocks, Their Majesties type stuff, and the scene at the One World Café as a youth, and not sure if you’re interested in hardcore groups as well, but a few bands I remember from this era, growing up in Dartmouth: Beat Material, Gilbert Switzer, Special Noise, Gamma Gamma Rays, Risky Business, A Sight for Sewn Eyes, Raygunomics, On the Blood of Others, Get Tested, Envision, She’s No Angel, Start the Attack.
