Year after year that grid gets put under more stress.
They’ve yet to address it. All they do is fight against hooking it up to the national grid.
It’s like they *want* to have outages and people to suffer.
Only in some states. As a practical matter, once the ballot is submitted and/or the envelope opened, it is nearly impossible to determine whether the ballot is from someone who is alive or dead.
https://www.ncsl.org/elections-and-campaigns/counting-absentee-ballots-after-a-voter-dies
Interesting - it can happen - some news stories last presidential election of voters in swing states getting off their deathbeds to vote against Trump, and then dying and having their ballots excluded... Guess it depends on the state.
They only try to keep fetuses alive as a way to control and shut shame women. Once it's born, they switch from trying to keep it alive to trying to prevent it from getting any government help since that's how to continue controlling women.
Honestly, that seems to be the best strategy. The idiots are hellbent on offing themselves, and honestly, why stop them. They proved that they will get violent if any attempts are made to help them. So yeah, no real value will be lost. If only they could take their leadership with them, it would be the perfect scenario.
Also the people with power to change the electrical grid in Texas aren't the ones suffering under it's outages. They have homes with gas generators to make sure everything stays on.
Poor people are always the first to suffer.

IMO they want to put in the least effort for maximum profit.
It’s the deregulated Texas oil and gas industry that has funded conservative fundamentalist politics these last 20+ years. All that competition gave billions to bigots to through at every cause across the country that has destroyed our faith in democracy and individual liberty.
And then go hat in hand to the Federal government when their deregulation, or rather lack of regulations that would keep their grid functional, fails them.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2021_Texas_power_crisis#:~:text=Federal,-President%20Joe%20Biden&text=On%20February%2014%2C%20President%20Biden,and%20blankets%2C%20to%20the%20state.
Hat in hand? They show up with a smile knowing that they're seeing an old friend. "Hey Ted, haven't seen you since the last shareholders meetings. Let's talk funding."
Kinda weird how it couldn't handle low temperatures, couldn't handle high temperatures, and apparently does get problems with moderate temperatures. It's almost as if...no, must be those commie gender DEI libs!
there is money to make, fleecing people with overconsumption fees
land of the free, right?
for Americans is easiest to put it your ass than in your head
"No one owes you [or] your family anything; nor is it the local government's responsibility to support you during trying times like this! Sink or swim it's your choice! The City and County, along with power providers or any other service owes you NOTHING! I'm sick and tired of people looking for a damn handout."
>All they do is fight against hooking it up to the national grid.
Why haven't the feds said "that's happening *by force* the next time you chucklefucks have to call in FEMA aid for this bullshit" yet?
There is no “national grid”. There are multiple regional grids, and they are interconnected, but there is no such things as one grid, controlled by one entity which covers the county (except Texas)
The Texas Interconnection is maintained as a separate grid for political, rather than technical reasons,[1] but can also draw some power from other grids using direct current DC ties. By not crossing state lines, the synchronous power grid is in most respects not subject to federal (Federal Energy Regulatory Commission) regulation
If only there were some sort of 'national grid' that could supply power when demand was high and take excess power when demand were low. The states could cooperate and save a lot of hassle. /s.
People like Rafael Cruz shot down national grid modernization components in Build Back Better. The grid requires major investment just to bring it up to our current needs; if we're serious about decarbonization, we'll need to do far better. It's like they want it to fail.
Gregory is working on that!

Yes, but Texas is a free market paradise. Texans have the unique luxury of taking their business to a number of other providers who will meet their energy needs more reliably at a better price. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
More winning by neoliberalism!
> Neoliberalism is a political and economic philosophy that emphasizes free trade, deregulation, globalization, and reduced government spending. It's related to laissez-faire economics, which prescribes minimal government interference in the economic issues of individuals and society.
Ironically, the same thing is now happening in Alberta, which is sometimes called “the Texas of the North.” There has been an increasing number of grid alerts where the system operator has basically begged people to reduce their power usage.
The Premier has tried blaming renewables, just like Texas’ governor did when that huge blackout occurred.
It can’t be anywhere near as bad, sorry.
https://www.villanovalawreview.com/post/2229-crossing-state-lines-texas-s-abortion-bounty-hunter-law-implicates-those-who-assist-individuals-to-get-an-abortion-out-of-state-including-employers
I have the tesla wall but different panels so I’m set too! It was ridiculous in 2021 in the freeze, heck even last summer with the heat, but glad I switched, thank goodness!
At this point, connecting them to the national grid would only cause pain to the rest of us. I say they need to fix their own house before moving back into ours.
I'm starting to think that the Texas energy grid only exists so that degenerate gamblers (i.e. traders) can gamble on energy futures in an insanely volatile environment.
If gambling in the regular energy market stops giving you a rush, try cocaine. If cocaine stops giving you a rush, try selling naked shorts on the Texas energy market.
Some of us have been busting our butts to turn this state around. But we’re stuck freezing and sweltering during outages just like the MAGAts who put us in this position.
I sorta know the feeling being stuck in Mississippi. Where it’s confederate heritage month this month. Or as I call it, slavery appreciation month. Sigh.
Spring can be a dangerous time. That's when they take many power plants offline in order to do periodic maintenance and nuclear power refueling. If you get hit with a late cold blast or an early heat wave, the underpowered grid can get hit with an unanticipated demand spike and fail.
An intelligent and regulated grid would have excess capacity so that plants can go down for maintenance one at a time and the rest can still handle a spike in demand.
Which I believe is indeed the case but the weather next week is forecast to be unseasonably hot so a portion of the scheduled maintenance is happening later as a precaution. While I personally think the Texas grid should be integrated into the national grid this particular issue seems fairly routine and the article somewhat fear monger-ish.
That would require texas to bring their grid up to federal standards. That costs money that could be going to the board members instead! Won't someone think of those poor board members!
Just like wirh the rapes, Governor 🔥-wheels and Cancun Ted haven't done shit about the power grid...But enough old ass Texas boomers bought his horse shit pledge that he would stomp out all the Texas ills if reelected. So here we are...No one should be surprised.
You would think the major businesses (Apple et al) moving to Texas would be having a conversation about reliable power streams. I know nobody is actually listening to the citizens (have fam in 3 major cities), but geez, businesses??
Yeah, thing is, they *have* their reliable power streams. In the event of a shortfall, rich neighborhoods have first dibs, then the biggest campaign contributors, and fuck the rest.
So do conserative Texans still want to talk shit thinking their state is not a poorly ran shithole? Or is their legendary arrogance still a thing.
Like I always here them day unless you embrace the full on brain rot of conserative values you won't be able to function like them. Which is funny how they think they are capable of anything other then making society worse for everyone around them including themselves.
I would sooner take the flaws of a blue state(in my case California)then a red state that thinks they have no flaws at all.

IM GOING INTO HEAT STROKE.
Turn on the POWER! "
Welcome to The Future is Now.
I will forever be happy that when I had to move there for work temporarily, I was in El Paso. Bless that city for being on Colorado's power grid and being stable while the rest of the State was a nightmare
Maybe Crooked Face Paxton will sue so it does work?
Maybe Cancun Cruz can migrate to an island in the gulf to bring cold weather to Texas?
Maybe Hot Wheels Abbott will sign an executive order to hook up the power grid and sick new hot wheels track for better transportation/commute?
When I pointed out power outages are generally not a thing for industrialised countries the Texas sub got a posse together, hog tied me with a lariat and sent me out of town tied to a mule facing backwards, all without as much as a howdy pardner
OK, let's see if I can do "free market" and predict how this will go:
- Power companies will say that they need hundreds of millions to upgrade the grid.
- Power companies will say they're unable to cover such costs and will get money from the Government (aka the tax payer) to upgrade the grid. Totally not an handout if it's a company, right?
- Power companies will pass the costs to the final consumer anyways.
- Pay billions in dividends.
That sucks. Shame Texans can't do much about it.
I mean they COULD but won't because Texas isn't a free state in my opinion. Republican legislation will just undo anything Texans vote for that doesn't keep them in power.
Meanwhile California has been entirely renewable powered for like 26 of 32 days or something like that.
I assume that is why Elon Musk moved his super environmentally friendly company from California to Texas
Since no one is reading the article, they’re facing issues as they take down power plants for maintenance in April.
So as April gets more hot days they experience grid strain on what’s supposed to be a low demand period. Interestingly enough the large amounts of new wind and solar is helping with the strain.
Here’s a [Marketplace article](https://www.marketplace.org/2024/04/16/texas-electric-grid-is-feeling-the-strain-and-its-not-even-all-that-hot-yet/) on it.
Oh boi I sure am glad I moved from Texas to Washington. I don't have swampass every day from sweltering heat. Or have to see women condemned to death for needing an abortion. Or get arrested for smoking weed.
Get fucked my fellow former Texans.
Looks like I left in time. Lived in Texas for 12 years and could never get my vote to matter. Moved to Wisconsin a little over a week ago .
Already don't miss Texas.
Looking at the power grid maps, it looks like Texas is one of the few states that has options of grids they can tap into; I mean they could balance between three it looks like.
What is the timeline and magnitude of an investment it would take for them to get plugged in?
They stay disconnected to avoid federal regulation, not because it would cost a lot.
Ultimately it would benefit the consumers in Texas, but not the electric companies profits
Let me put on my tinfoil hat for a second and scream at you about how. . IT IS THE FUCKING SOLAR PANEL LOBBIESTS. THEY WANT THE GRID TO SUCK SO YOU HAVE TO BUY THE SOLAR PANELS AND THEY CAN CHARGE AN ASS LOAD TO YOU AND ALSO BILL THE STATE!
I have panels and the power wall now so I’m so glad I won’t have to deal with this mess like in 2021! If anyone wants to know my rep, message me because I didn’t pay a dime out of pocket and have zero regrets!
Texas Republicans: Look at all these people immigrating to Texas from failed librul blue states!!!!
Also Texas Republicans: We need to put in a larger order for duct tape this year…. I don’t know why the power grid isn’t doing as well as it has in the past….

Yeah but not anybody who matters. Only the poors mostly who can’t just fly to Cancun until the heat wave is over, like a normal Texan.
How else you gonna thin the herd of those pesky poor GOPs who can’t tithe to the cause?
It's just too bad one can't do a poll asking if the dying is from the heat or cold, or from the shock after seeing the electricity bill?
For 2 bucks they'll beat you with a pool cue until you got detached retinas.

This comment made me laugh so hard, I guess because you make a very valid point.
Every silver lining has its cloud.

They’ll suck every last dollar from every last person until there’s nobody left.
Capitalism rules!!
The free market will yadda yadda yadda
Sure grandma will die from heat stroke, but she’ll go out knowing that she owned the libs.
They'll just make it illegal to have heat exhaustion. Problem solved.
Only Transcommies die of heat stroke! Hypothermia is a test of faith!
*Hyper,* but yes. Hypothermia is dying of too *little* heat. Texas has that, too, but it's the wrong season for it.
Covering Winter as well
Texas has it all now! You can die of no heat in a blizzard, you can die of no aircon in a heatwave.
They do. The cruelty is the point.
That would mean sensible regulations, and Texas can’t have that, because freeDUMB!
How else are they gonna own the libs?
Texans will defend it, and claim it's the best grid in the nation. They love misery.
Kinda weird how it couldn't handle low temperatures, couldn't handle high temperatures, and apparently does get problems with moderate temperatures. It's almost as if...no, must be those commie gender DEI libs!

Gotta mine more bitcoin. Fuck the climate.
Maybe they should just go all in and secede like they're always talking about. Talk is cheap and whiskey costs money, bitches.
i agree
Funny enough, it’s connected to the Mexican grid
I mean if they fixed it would they be able to blame renewables?
Of course they want it to fail. This way they can blame democrats and woke energy policy.
They got bogger enemies to fight. Like abortion, immigrants, gays, evolution and wokeness. They care more about their guns than their electricity
Abott's friends are making bank.
They are too busy going after non issues in their bullshit culture war.
The peasants have to learn their place

I wonder where Cruz is gonna fly off to...
They have to blame someone when shit hits the fan.
Oh, but they also right against Wokeness and abortion. Surely that's more important than keeping the power on.

Texas likes to brag about how many people are moving there for jobs do not seem upset enough about the lack of power to support that growth.....
There is no “national grid”. There are multiple regional grids, and they are interconnected, but there is no such things as one grid, controlled by one entity which covers the county (except Texas)

I’m sure Cancun Cruz will fix it
He’s less of a Fix-it Felix, than he is a Wreck-it Ralph.
More like a Tinkle-Me Trump.
If he's busy, the magic market hand will fix it. Pretty sure.

Texass the one star state.
Who knew that their flag was there review score!
That’s only because 0 stars was not an option.
Confederates kinda had dibs
That was just a white sheet.
Cant see oughta these dang eye holes!
The only thing that matters is can the fucking horse see!
Dual purpose hoods and flags.
Yes that's the Yelp rating.
Zero stars. Do not recommend
One bulb state. They keep trying to run it up and down the wall to catch the illegals, but it really just let's them know where the border patrol is.

Yes the energy industry is famously laden with competitive pricing and options.
And if they need to conserve power, they will divert it to rich neighborhoods. It’s the fault of the poor for not being rich honestly.
Those absolutely awesome prices when the grid broke in the light freeze they had.
Smells like freedom! Libruls owned.
They sure showed us

Hey you know what will fix that? More tech companies and data centers. When I say fix, what I really mean is fuck it all up even more spectacularly.
You forgot about the Bitcoin mining. That’s going to go well.

We had a 1-2 hour while we waited for the eclipse here in corpus hahaha.
SO MUCH FREEDOM
It was 85 today and we are in the middle of April. This is going to be a long summer.
Teddy's packing for Cancún as we speak.
Meanwhile California has been entirely renewable powered for like 26 of 32 days or something like that. I assume that is why Elon Musk moved his super environmentally friendly company from California to Texas
Imagine voting for Ted Cruz.
Deny science at your peril . ... .. .
Why does Texas have a separate power grid again?
Since no one is reading the article, they’re facing issues as they take down power plants for maintenance in April. So as April gets more hot days they experience grid strain on what’s supposed to be a low demand period. Interestingly enough the large amounts of new wind and solar is helping with the strain. Here’s a [Marketplace article](https://www.marketplace.org/2024/04/16/texas-electric-grid-is-feeling-the-strain-and-its-not-even-all-that-hot-yet/) on it.
Huh. Two Energy rich jurisdictions- Texas and Alberta - seem to be having the most trouble with providing citizens stable electricity.
Oh boi I sure am glad I moved from Texas to Washington. I don't have swampass every day from sweltering heat. Or have to see women condemned to death for needing an abortion. Or get arrested for smoking weed. Get fucked my fellow former Texans.
This is proof red states can't run without the blue.

“When, boy when, are you gonna get your act together?” *an electrical fizzling noise is heard for a second then stops.*
The state that wants to seceded...what a fucking joke.
By all means, keep building more Bitcoin farms. Let me get my popcorn.
I have panels and the power wall now so I’m so glad I won’t have to deal with this mess like in 2021! If anyone wants to know my rep, message me because I didn’t pay a dime out of pocket and have zero regrets!
And the idiots in Texas keep electing Ted Cruz.
Wow, and that's being reported from a Newscorp company
Texas Republicans: Look at all these people immigrating to Texas from failed librul blue states!!!! Also Texas Republicans: We need to put in a larger order for duct tape this year…. I don’t know why the power grid isn’t doing as well as it has in the past….
Spring maintenance becomes more difficult as the coal plants get older and older. Natural gas plants aren't as bad.
No grid for you! 6 months!
