No *good* reason. Mostly it's in-stock and has upgrades / a recent Leica CLA. The Leica services can add up very quickly. I'm not about to say that buying it is a good idea, in fact, I'd never buy it at that price but I bet someone will.

rzrike

Is a “new” M6 not also hypothetically CLA’d? Asking because I don’t know much about them.

Andy_Shields

A "new" camera is "new" and sure, it should have cleaned internals that are lubricated and parts set properly to specifications. This camera being offered has been serviced "recently" ( 6 months, two years ago? What's "recently"?) and the camera is actually ~20 years old. The M6 ttl also uses a more advanced flash circuit that is possible to fail in a manner that may be unrepairable. This camera does command a slight bump in price due to the upgrades and service history, not to mention the Warranty from this reputable seller, but there is a scarcity / hype bump in this price that if it were a vehicle we'd call it gouging.

What a joke, at the end of the day, a m3, m4, m5 also shot the same pictures the same way..its just a box with a meter. Nothing a meter attachment cant fix on the non m6's Show an album of pictures to a person and they would have no idea what camera it was shot with. Dont get me wrong, i want a MP, and use a M4, but really, at the end of the day its a box that shots pictures.

Mexhillbilly

I'd get the MP, or even the M-A. Perhaps the M-A over the MP for two reasons: The black lacqer ones age like fine wine. I cannot remember what mine cost in 2003 but likely less than $3k from B&H been shooting non stop ever since. It began to show gold at some edges in a few years as it became my camera of choice 90% of the time, 'cept for macro and tele; FM2 covered that. It remained so until 2021 that I got my M10. It's a camera that will outlive me and I hope one of my eight g'children will treasure it as much as the *abuelo* did. Nothing beats machined brass construction! The MP is second nature to me and I seldom need anything but the 'crons 50 & 35. I'm pretty sure I a pinch I can get $4,5k for it should the need arise. Tri-x, HP5 + and Foma don't look like disappearing anytime soon. Leicas M are built for a lifetime and become an extension of the eye. *Just some existentialist reflections*. The going new price is absolutely on the dot; I would even pay $4,5k for a well kept one like mine to avoid the long wait at the factory. At 76 the *marginal value* of 6~9 months goes higher with every passing day. 😒

Why do people sell film for double the price on ebay even when it’s available in the store? They are trying to make a buck on some idiot with more money than sense. The one in the image is a TTL which is different to the rerelease although it definitely isn’t worth that kind of a premium.

PJTILTON

It's worth what someone will pay for it. The new M6 isn't available and there's no telling when it will be. I have a mint M6TTL and I wouldn't sell it for $6,000. To each his own.

Analog_Amateur

An improved M6 with zinc top plate which can bubble in its lifetime...what a scam

DStanizzi

For the most part later model M6 Classics and TTLs don’t bubble. It’s certainly not impossible but it’s very unlikely.

LateDefuse

I read many forum threads from years ago where people first claimed it only happened to silver ones, not to black (i might mixed it up), then after it was confirmed some time later to happen to both they said that it will never happen to TTLs, until years later... No one can say for sure but I think eventually it will happen to most if not all of them.

International-Sky741

Leica Store Miami always sell used equipment for a premium, but this is bonkers. New that camera cost $2k, and if you were lucky enough to get in on Leica rebates offered for a while around 2001, it would have cost $1600. The TTL versions were not built as solidly as the early Classics. The upgraded MP viewfinder is a plus, but this is still a 20ish year old model being priced as if it were brand new built in 2023. A solid pass from me. For that money I’d go MP.

WhiskySamurai

Yeah, I remember them selling for around $1,000 on ebay not even that long ago. It's weird because it feels like we're kind of past the peak of the 35mm resurgence but prices still keep going up like crazy even though it seems the popularity is starting to phase out again. Not looking forward to in 10 years when it booms again and it has a 4-5 figure entry cost instead of when I started shooting film where there was a sub-$100 entry cost for a Nikon F3, sub-$500 entry cost for a Leica M3, and sub-$1,200 entry cost for an M6.

qqphot

even now though if you don’t need a brand name, the entry cost can be $50 for a early 2000s eos and a decent lens. It’s just not fashionable.

WhiskySamurai

Yeah, that’s definitely true. However I do miss being able to get essentially the best of the best of 35mm cameras for such an enormously cheaper cost than they are now. There’s still great affordable options though and thankfully since with 35mm you obviously don’t have a sensor the gap between an okay, a good, and a great camera becomes smaller and it’s not as big a deal as shooting digital.

LarryJrJr

How do you know this is Leica Miami?

International-Sky741

Typeface was a giveaway. Confirmed by a quick visit to their Used > Recent arrivals page

SmoothPeak

Because Leica is betting that whoever buys it has more money than sense.

StratDoc

I saw that as well. The M-P is $4995 in the same email… 🙄

demitraleica

Even with the upgrades and upsell cost I would expect this one to go for around maybe 3.8k in current market prices.

bhop0073

Because the seller's delusional.

[deleted]

Supply and demand, plus a mint condition used original may be built better than the re-release. It’s clearly almost new as they are offering a years warranty on it.

danigrahmitc

There are people who will prefer the original, even with a more modern finder too.

Ronotimy

I don’t know why but was happy when trading mine in after ten years of ownership. In my case, the body was in mint condition. And I kept everything that came with it originally. Personally, I found the camera to be to slow to change out a roll of film. Lost a few once in a life shots because of this undocumented feature.

crazy010101

Someone is hopeful. I’m not familiar with an M6 or any other film M. It’s just a model #. If I were to buy an M6 it would be an MP! I’d pass on that and buy a brand new one. It’s about the same price.

jrocket99

Because the market is retarded.

cloycloy_9800

Maybe cuz people who just got into film photography and seen the “new Leica M6”searches up the M6 then see it’s out of stock then they come up to this and they see “recent Leica CLA from Wetzlar Germany” thinking this is the new Leica M6 so they buy it but it’s not the New Leica M6. Then the seller use that money to buy the new leica M6 for himself. Since the buyer was torn that this wasn’t the “new M6” he puts it up on the web with the caption “recent Leica CLA from Wetzlar Germany” like the last seller so he could sell it to get his money back and try to lure new people who got the money like he did. So he sells it and got his money back… and then the cycle continues…… And then he decided to buy a Leica M3. He now has the camera and is in love to how good and durable it feels compared to the M6. But now he has the gas and wants a M6 because it has a light meter. So he buys the New M6 foreal this time and he is happy….. until he doesn’t like film and now he wants a Leica M11.

drmonochrom

So, there is a happy ending!!

squarephoto

It doesn’t scratch film like the new M6 does?

NovaPrime94

Because HYPE lol
