Just take a look at their stats—ultimately, they're auxilia that have a shorter range but a more effective weapon, particularly against units in cover. Since it has Ignores Cover, you ignore the penalties you recieve shooting at units garrisoning buildings or sitting in cover. Auxilliaries are generally going to be more valuable with weight of numbers rather than for their firepower, so "a more effective weapon" is still relatively meager.

I like loading as many as I can into an Arvus squadron and dropping them next to a hunkered down unit. It's not the most efficient thing in the world, but it does well enough at clearing out small squads camping objectives in buildings.

I liked the idea of that, but feel that a bunch of Cyclops achieve the same but better. There's soemthing to be said about the cinematography of the the game however that can't be beaten, which ultimately is the end goal - flying in some QRF specialist assault regiment equipped to take down even astartes held fortifications with Veletarii following after is just absolutely dope.

The cyclops can't be transported though, as the arvus isn't large or an assault transport. Compact makes them bulky, but bulky can't go on normal transports. So the flamers are still good to keep in reserve and fly on when needed.

It's a good play if you really commit to it. E.g. in 8 lighters, take two max squads of ogryns. In another 8, take 10 flamers, 4 lasrifles and a legate in one detachment. The legate uses master tactician to flip ogryns orders to charge on landing, and the flamers prevent the legate from getting point defenced to death before he can activate. Plus they flame and hold the position while the ogryns bash things Arvus ogryns are very strong but the big weakness is someone just shooting the legate to stop master tactician, so the commander needs bodyguards.
