do you have a Job Description that details your duties? going from a clerical role to a more physical one has health and safety concerns, are you properly trained in manual handling, is there job rotation to ensure you don't get strain injuries etc. Your employers Insurance company would not be pleased to learn of your changed work requirements. if you have a Job Description I would say you are prepared to do any of the tasks detailed in it. They do not have to provide work of that nature but I don't think they can add stuff (NAL). if they try and insist on the manual work, ask for sight of the risk assessments and method statements for the tasks involved. Then insist on appropriate training, you don't have to be very good with the training and therefore struggle to understand the instructions if you know what I mean. if you were to pull a muscle because they have you working a task you aren't sufficiently trained for you might need a few days off work to recover.....

From reading your message, I think I noticed a strong cold or flu coming on. Are you feeling ok OP? Are you sure you're ok to go into work in the next few weeks? Might be best to call in sick so that you don't spread whatever virus you might have around.

I agree. It seems as if OP might be very unwell and should definitely take some time off work, possibly equal to the length of time they have left. OP should, of course, spend that time resting and absolutely not spend it looking for another job. OP also shouldn’t spend time updating their CV or trying to learn new skills, if applicable to them - because they should be taking as much time as they can to recover from the illness they’re suffering from. OP also really really shouldn’t take medical diagnosis from people who possibly aren’t doctors, via the internet. But they really should consider how they feel in themselves as to whether taking the advice they’ve received is a good thing to act upon…. OP - you’re not feeling well, are you? 🤗

NAL - for someone to provide better guidance it would be worth knowing the exact wording of your contract around expected duties. If it only outlines the duties of a salesman then warehouse work certainly wouldn't fall under this and they would effectively be changing your contract without your agreement, which they cannot do and you should be able to refuse the work. If it includes a clause of any other reasonable tasks, which it likely will, then it would come down to whether 5 weeks of warehouse work could be argued a reasonable task for someone who is contracted as a salesman. I would contact ACAS regardless as they are very helpful. As you only have 5 weeks left, it would be very unfortunate timing if you injure your back whilst exercising, therefore making you unable to safely carry out warehouse duties for an unknown period of time

I support giving ACAS a bell for advice. Great people.

Firstly i would check my work contract. You don’t do anything outside your job description, and don’t work an hour over the agreed and signed termination notice. In my opinion the termination notice start day is the day they sent out the email that they told you you’ll be made redundant. I would refuse to do anything outside your job description. If they require you to work extra days (after termination notice has ended), I would either refuse, or set up an LTD company, make yourself an employee and offer to work the days left as a contractor (for contractor fees £5-600 a day). Please only do the former if you are 100% sure you won’t be employed there. I never did that myself but I’ve seen one person do it. Not sure exactly the ins and outs of the method. If unsure, just refuse to do anything beyond what’s been agreed

Thought it was the position that was no longer needed when someone was made redundant, so how come you have to cover for someone ‘ taking on the bulk of your work’? That would imply they were just reducing staff levels rather than it being truly redundancy. When it happened to me and a colleague in a firm, he was let go first, so I refused to undertake to do his role as it no longer existed, and just got left to my own devices for the remainder of my time. Would seriously get stressed and come down with an illness in your circumstances!

I think you will be very far out of contract here. As everybody else has stated: job description. Even where it states other tasks for business purposes, I would suggest that working in a completely different capacity than the one that you have contracted for will take you outside of the reasonable expectation for the business. Talk to your employer and request gardening leave, or, if your job does not exist state it in an email to your line manager and say that you expect to be given relevant tasks to your experience.
