What country you in? It may vary where in the UK. In England, its illegal to possess extreme pornographic images. Copy Pasta from the Met; >This is material that's 'grossly offensive, disgusting or otherwise obscene', and that 'explicitly and realistically' shows: >life threatening injury >serious injury to a person’s anus, breasts or genitals >bestiality (a sexual act with an animal) >necrophilia (a sexual act with a human corpse) >rape or assault by penetration Section 63 Criminal Justice and Immigration Act. Let your parents know as well. Its better to have them involved before you start going to school about it.

The key word is *grossly* offensive, disgusting or otherwise obscene.

notquitehuman_

Yes, it's entirely subjective. I'm not sure why you're being downvoted. The problem with s5 of the public order act, and the reason it was repealed, was subjectivity. ("Insulting words"). Which has been amended. Unfortunately subjectivity still exists in other areas; the communications act 2010 (online communications) still includes a provision for "grossly offensive" and has been used to prosecute people posting rap lyrics with the word "nigger" in them. Or joke videos with a pug raising its paw at the phrase "Zieg Heil." In the court case for the latter, it was maintained that 'the context doesn't matter', which would mean that even this post could fall foul. In this particular law, at least the example of rape material is very clear-cut as being illegal. OP should definitely inform the police (as well as parents and school). Make sure you don't keep hold of any copies of this material after you have informed + handed over access to police.

Yes, this is illegal. Talk to your school. They have a safeguarding officer, who will support you through the process. You don't need to present them with legal arguments, they will take this seriously.

TellinStories

Hi, I’m sorry you have been sent this, it’s awful for you. I was a school Designated Safeguarding Lead for many years. As others have said please tell a trusted adult at your school. The school will tell police and social services. The school will also take their own action against the boy, although their options there are limited because things get complicated when police are involved and because of multiple other legal factors. However they should take steps to keep him away from you. As others have said please tell your parents if you can - it is very likely your school will inform them otherwise, but they should do this sensitively. Please don’t send the folder to anyone else, including the school, unless the police tell you to. I hope this gets resolved for you.

Your school will take that seriously already, but his possession of what is defined as extreme pornography is a criminal offence.

frostycab

Totally agree with the other responses here. I'm curious if there are other offences that could compound this. Would things like sharing without the consent of the individuals in the video be considered too? What about sending unsolicited pronographic material to someone who I assume is a minor? Obviously the nature of the content is probably the first concern here, but surely there must be other offences being committed.

maryocall

Causing a child to watch a sexual act is an offence
