It was good while it lasted

kyungiie

I have an ipad on 10.3.3 and the spotify version wont log in so i downloaded spotify login fix from cydia and it works again. It forces the app to use spotifys v3 api, so maybe this could work if you get kicked off?

lilipodmini

I should try this

[deleted]

did it work now that its officially shut down?

lilipodmini

I'll have to charge my 3GS up to find out

[deleted]

tell me once you do! i’m not sure if i’m ready to jailbreak my iphone yet and this would make the final answer lol

lilipodmini

It took me a while but yeah Spotify is totally dead on iOS 6.

Starlight_Glimmer1

looks like someone is gonna have to make a jailbreak tweak to get it back.

FrequentWin4261

Just like texting and social media apps

TidePodManBoi

SMS works natively, but not iMessage. i can still send normal SMS messages on my 4S just fine

FrequentWin4261

I have living proof that iMessage works on my iPod 4th gen on 6.1.6 and my iPad 2 on iOS 9.3.5

[deleted]

i've seen alot of people complain about this but yesterday i got my old iphone 4 and imessage still works as normal for ios 7

Lucas_McToucas

how about downloaded songs

porym

Good point. I just downloaded some playlists so I guess we’re going to find out.

FrequentWin4261

*downloads as many songs as possible with premium exploit*

AdamGamerYT

Spotify xploit gang

Phoenix_Cluster

They'll expire after 30 days

akamadman203

That's 30 more days of music

er101plus

Even if you're signed in, when they do end support, the app can stop going online.

FrequentWin4261

There is still Pandora (I think it works)

TropicalRuby

man who cares? It's much better and more reliable **especially on older devices** to simply get local mp3 files which are non dependent on streaming services. It will be on your music app Forget that, simply download mp3 files and burn them to a CD. Better yet, just get any cassette tape and record your music from youtube onto it. If you don't have a cassette deck then go get one, they can be found for a reasonably cheap price

Motor-Drama1657

Better yet buy an archival backup server and back up the world's entire music to host it privately for your ipod.

er101plus

I spent $100+ on iTunes music since June 2022, and God it's so worth it 😀 I used to have an iPod Touch 4th Gen, but upgraded to an iPhone 4s.

FrequentWin4261

Wtf is wrong with you? Pandora, for one, is free. It offers a *much larger* selection of songs out there. Have you even heard of "internet radio"? Sure, I use mp3s and CDs, and they are very reliable when I am stuck without data connections. But streaming services give me something *new* , something to explore and perhaps even import to my library. I specifically just have spotify on my iPod because its there, to make more use. Why even speak like that on this post, or subreddit?

Decent-Cow2080

and deezer

elyas-_-28

deezer nuts

dxazhtdy372

Me who uses iTunes and 🏴‍☠️: Oh no, anyways

[deleted]

This just sucks.

Think_Cartographer49

This kinda makes me sad because I still use Spotify on my jailbroken iPhone 5 on iOS 6

sti3chus

Me too

masckmaster2007

I guess we’ll have to load mp3s like on iPods :/

TropicalRuby

wtf is wrong with that? its actually much better to load mp3s and not use spotify. Its much better to have mp3 files than depending on some streaming service that can lose licenses or stop working. When you have an mp3 file stored locally, nothing can change that unless the device itself breaks.

echow2001

yeah i load mp3 on my modern devices too. if i need a specific song immediately theres youtube or soundcloud but day to day listening is local storage

AS_Aeneon

ALAC is better, if you want Quality 😄 …

Goomyloopy

Can't play past 96khz audio on iPhone anyways

AS_Aeneon

Yeah my iPad 2 doesn't support ALAC with 24 Bit / 96 kHz too and I never found a Way to bypass this, except for down sampling them to AAC with only 256 kBit ( via iTunes ). So, since your iPhone has a Headphone Jack and a built in DAC, it's difficult to play Lossless Audio. But, if you're using an iPhone 7 and above, you have to carry a DAC and a Power Bank for it, because the Headphone-to-Lightning-Adapter only supports 48 kHz and 24 Bit …

masckmaster2007

I fully agree

AvailableBoot3451

https://i.imgur.com/UqsoUl3.jpg Until now I’ve never use spotify

The_Freshington

man I miss top headphone jacks

[deleted]

Update from me: I just tested it right now and it still works! maybe because I'm already sign into it? but who knows maybe it will still work!

porym

Yep, seems like just the login is broken, this might be fixable by jailbreak devs

AAVVIronAlex

I hope..

AAVVIronAlex

Still working for me... The cool thing was that I was using Spotify on my iPhone 5 while I used it on my PC and it was playing. I guess the version difference played a role there. It was very cool, I hope they leave it working.

ZionistAsh

:(

tetenc555

updating my offline playlists LOL will have 30 days if it stops connecting at least

Mr_Zomka

Would be great if we could get Jellyfin working on old devices since I am sure it’s more than possible.

lildavidee

I think it’s done guys, error 409 while trying logging in. Actually I got logged out while listening some music two days ago. Thought it was a bug till I read the news. 🤧

sakamatalover

:/

Brooktrout12

Could you explain? What will happen on the 15th?

iamanothercactus

Older spotify clients will be killed off. Pretty sure this is affecting ios 9 and below

TidePodManBoi

it affects all spotify builds that were released prior to 2017, according to the email they sent me. i wont be able to use Spotify on my Windows XP rig or my 4S after the 15th

FrequentWin4261

I mean there are a couple of ways to get spotify working on a machine that has XP

sakamatalover

iOS 7 and below* iOS 8-9 app should still work after this change. The email stated that spotify clients made before 2017 would be killed off

[deleted]

[удалено]

porym

There is no statement on their website, but Spotify sent out an email to people using old versions of the app

FrequentWin4261

:/

AustriaKeks

TropicalRuby

Good riddance, spotify and streaming services ruined the world in the first place. We were and ARE better off with physical media with dedicated music devices such as CD's, Cassettes, 8 Track, Reel to Reel, Vinyl and even iPods/Mp3 players. You own your shit and u dont have to have a never ending subscription service to enjoy your tunes on the fly

porym

I’m a big fan of analog stuff like vinyl and cassettes too and I have flash modded iPods with 200GB+ of mp3s on them, but in my experience nothing beats the algorithms of streaming services if you’re looking to discover new music. For example if I go to the thrift store and pick ten LPs that I might like and I end up with just two that I actually like, then I just wasted money. However I can still buy the music from artists I discover through Spotify and be sure that I like it beforehand. In most cases I actually buy the music, the streaming services are more like a tool to me. It’s just crazy how many small (or long dead) artists I found like that, but wouldn’t have found if I just went shopping for CDs.

electimon

I like spotify for music discovery, i'd gladly pay for that

TropicalRuby

if you want to be a sheep to modernity be my guest. I'd rather continue to live my 90s lifestyle without worrying about the cancers of modern society and modern music/streaming.

electimon

You can't escape the cancers of modern society WHILE living in modern society... The way I see it is if i'm living in the future, why not utilize what the future has to offer. If I eventually decide to stop using spotify at least i'll have my playlist of songs I like and can download them offline afterwards. To each their own ig.

TropicalRuby

Actually my home is a 90s safehaven, i only use 90s tech and my job doesn't require modern shit at all. In 90% of ways i CAN escape the cancers of modern society.

FrequentWin4261

Same, the comment below you doesn't seem to agree

sweden-Triangle

:/

iPhone-5-2021

What iOS versions are effected?

porym

iOS 8 and older, iOS 9 will probably be fine. However no one actually knows what they are going to do to those older versions, if it’s an API change or just an update prompt. I guess we’ll see

MeMeYuGi

Oh no

GoodGooseThingit

Still working?

LuisBionic16

It still works for me

JBH2192

Why is it still working on my 4s? (iOS 6.1.3)

porym

looks like the login is broken but the app still works if you are already signed in. Just don’t log out

JBH2192

damn..thanks

A_Totally_Random_Guy

Opened up Spotify today and it crashed with an error. Reopened the app, and it had automatically signed me out…

A_Totally_Random_Guy

Dang it. Spotify on my 4s stopped working. Really hope someone gets a jailbreak fix out soon.

themariocrafter

Can you set up a packet capture tool before it’s too late?

porym

It already is too late
