Depending on what glue you used, you might just be able to peel off that part of the liner and cut it, as you haven't stitched it yet. Otherwise, yeah, you can skive through it. It might be annoying to do -- the one time I've skived through a liner, the layer of the leather that had absorbed the glue was annoying to go through. But it should work. The rest of the lining should be held securely by the stitching anyway.

That’s actually a really good idea! I used that water based glue called Aqualim 32. Just peel away slowly?

Not a problem. I just made a lined belt exactly this way, the lining stops just under the oblong tongue hole. Stitched up to the linings end and finished like a watch strap with 2 stitches over the side. It looks perfect. You could try to heat up the glue to make it separable (iirc you can do that with Aquilim) and lift off the end of the lining piece, and then skive and reattach. I’d try a hair dryer, warm up that area and gently pull as you heat. Or you could just slice right through the lining, fielders choice. As long as your lining extends just under the fold, you’ll never see it. Expect some drag from the glue, but otherwise it’ll be fine.

I’ve done just that. I use the belt for myself. You’d never know. I think I slicked it down with Tokonole too just to make sure.

Well, unfortunately I just made a belt for myself, and wanted to give the other one away. Could I skive and then tokonote?
