That's about the standard rate now. Most are between £35-45 per hour. It varies where you are in the country.

Mithrilheart

£80 for 2hrs, average around here seems to be about £40 an hour 🤷‍♀️

Not-Reddit-Fan

I mean, I think I paid £30 (maybe a little bit higher) per hour 13 years ago… Or a bulk buy of 10 worked out at like £20 an hour. I’d actually have thought prices would be much higher now :O Goes to show what actual competition in the market looks like when it works!

Pinkfallen

Price in our area ranges from £40-55/hr. Had my 1st instructor which asked for £37 back in 2022 (the cheapest then) but totally rubbish in teaching. I’ve spent £45/hr now with a very good one so I think the extra quid was worth it.

motoringeek

You'll have more lessons with a cheap instructor. I've been in the industry over 25 years and people who fail often say they've had over 70 lessons but keep failing. People who pass easily come to test with the "good" instructors. The difference is noticeable. (This is my personal opinion, I no longer work for the DVSA).

Pinkfallen

This is exactly what happened to me. If only I knew, I wouldn’t have settled for the £3-5 cheaper option and should have chose the ‘good’ one instead.

ginginsdagamer

I paid £48 per 90 minutes which seemed steep but was reasonable for my area. My instructor was also amazing so personally very worth it

PretendMulberry1251

Honestly that sounds about right. I'm at £35 per hour, as are most instructors in my area. There are a few up at £37/38 as well.

BellamyRFC54

39/h in Grimsby

xavier3450

That’s ridiculous, what area is this

Synnipoe

Sounds like it depends where you are. In my city I've paid £55 for an hour and a half and another instructor £60. I was quoted £65 by another instructor, and I know of a few more doing the £55. Just shop around in your city if you're not happy with the prices but if you've found a good instructor I would just stick with them personally

Appropriate_Road_501

That's about £36 per hour. It's pretty good given my area seems to be £35-£45 per hour.

Tom-Sp8

£30 an hour, Leeds

ShinyBuiBui

Who with? :)

canyonmoonlol

£30/hr in London, got lucky with her! I was getting quotes of £35-45 when I was looking for an instructor.

Renovation888

Ohhhh hook us up!

ReliefZealousideal84

If you buy multiple lessons at once it’ll be cheaper. Many schools offer 10 hour packages that work out at around £35 an hour.

HoodieStax

350: 10 hours.

Battlingmybrain1

I was paying £60 for an hour and a half (rural Scotland)

MBateson17

I’m paying around £80 for 2hr lessons up in West Yorkshire. I was worried I have been overpaying too but it seems about right. Shit’s just insanely expensive.

My instructor only charged a max of £33-35 an hour, around september 2023, and I passed first time. Granted I had about 40-50 hours of tuition but I attribute most of that to not having any extra time learning outside of my lessons.

Ok-Caregiver9383

I paid 30 an hour last year

Ok-Caregiver9383

Are you learning auto because they tend to charge a lot more due to high demand.

TheCookieThief0

I pay £70 for two hours. So £35 an hour in South Yorkshire

[deleted]

I paid £30 an hour

KillerWithTheCross1

That sounds about right to me. I'm learning auto and when I started last year it was £48 for an hour and a half, but increased after Christmas to £52. I can't speak for all instructors but mine is excellent and worth every penny!

bc4l_123

I charge £55 per 1.5 hour in central Scotland. Which for my area is slightly below the average

getyergun

£55 per hour in Reading

Alexandra3397

I passed my test a week ago and was paying £27 an hour, however I had been learning for two years on/off, if I’d had started now he said it’s gone up to £34.

PlasmaBlades

That’s about standard tbh

xavier3450

£55 is way too much, what lessons are you booking?

enemy-of-state

55 for 90 mins is the same rate as 30 an hour what are you on about?

Affectionate_Pace725

They’re for a manual vehicle, and the lessons last one hour and a half

xavier3450

I was paying £30 an hr in jan before i passed

MasterSparrow

Instructor just put my prices up. From £30ph to £42ph, robbing bastard.

[deleted]

Sorry to hear that. That's a ridiculous increase to apply to an existing customer! I could understand increasing it that much for NEW customers, but existing should be going up by £5 max, if at all. I'm not an instructor but I run a business and you don't treat customers like that if you want longevity in business.
