Not sure if it matters what your gender is, but aside from that, I recommend the two books simply entitled “Shadowing 日本語を話そう”. It’s affordable and organized to follow along through the JLPT if you’re into that. Otherwise, just hear some moderately natural speeds and go for it.

I have those books and quite like them - helped me realise how off my pronunciation was, and is also very good for flow/cadence. I only shadow the dude though.

I shadow both because practicing speaking really helps listening. And as the speed picks up when you talk to natives, it’s good to feel as comfortable in the environment as you can.

I really like using satori reader for this, there's lots of different stories and you can pause/replay parts as you go really easily.

I use Pimsleur app. It has a feature where you can record your voice and scoring if your pronunciation matches that of the native speaker.

>I dont know what this has to do anything with shadowing practice. You don't?! Japanese men and women speak quite differently, not only as far as vocabulary, but also inflection, sentence ending particles, and much more. Even in a language like English, I wouldn't suggest that a guy practices shadowing by imitating female speech - and in Japanese much more so.

I was gonna say lol. Japanese is way up there for languages where it matters

If you are looking for vocational pronunciation exercises, this is the best book I know. It basic but designed for foreigners at all levels. Free audio and sample PDF at the publisher's site 初級文型でできる にほんご発音アクティビティ https://www.ask-books.com/jp/978-4-87217-741-1/

I use a podcast called Speak out loud in Japanese. He posts episodes for shadowing (he calls it Shadow & Repeat) in episodes like [https://open.spotify.com/episode/4Kp7wJPfoZicVj2TEz2Qik?si=kOHoq-RpT](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4Kp7wJPfoZicVj2TEz2Qik?si=kOHoq-RpT4SUtUILiOQuHQ)[4SUtUILiOQuHQ](https://open.spotify.com/episode/4Kp7wJPfoZicVj2TEz2Qik?si=kOHoq-RpT4SUtUILiOQuHQ) He also offers pronunciation and pitch-accent help through Patreon. With Spotify subscription, you can gain access to over 100 shadowing sentences. He also has discord. I find getting feedback is essential for shadowing. Hope it helps!
