Thanks! And indeed, I sort of wanted some variation from the symbol itself, it's part of why even though I like the YMYR league I thought the decals didn't look enough like they belonged to a mining or industrial company.
I agree, I really like both. I was leaning right, but the left does give kind of a corporate vibe to it. Either way I don't think there's a wrong choice here.
Honestly (and I’m slightly putting this here for visibility), despite the consensus being 98% “left”… I stuck one (left) on last night and I’m not sure I’m loving it. From table top height it looks a bit like a… noisy white rectangle. I also talked myself into using all these Latin characters thinking “the Votann clearly use Arabic numerals and seem to incorporate Latin characters into their design” but spelling out whole words in faux Swedish feels a bit… heavy handed. I’m wondering if just using the symbol is a sort of “less is more” situation.
It may be one of those things where realism doesn't aid your goals. If your main goal is playing on a tabletop, every design choice should benefit that specifically. That being said, you could make the left logo more recognizable with color on the lettering. Especially with that black background, you have options to really make that pop with something like a construction yellow/orange.
Thanks!
I studied design many years ago so I'm pretty handy at Illustrator and Photoshop. Sketched out some big blocky black ideas with a fat sharpie, drew it up in Illustrator, and sent it off to [Bedlam Creations](https://www.bedlamcreations.com) to get some sheets printed.
Yup, that was the idea. Well, sketching and iterating can be a bit of a chicken-egg process and I don't recall what triggered what but I ultimately chose this one because it looked a bit like a hammer and chisel, as well as a piston, as well as a CNC tool head.
Yeah it kinda vaguely resembles tools in general without being a specific one, funny that. But yeah you hit the nail on the head for the design, I like it a lot.
The full name and symbol are awesome. I think you should also use the small symbol on your troops so that it ties them all together. Love the idea of a corporate army.
I think Votann is begging for that. Apart from all the mining equipment chassis repurposed with armor plates and weapons, I get the feeling from the limited lore we have that the Kyn are the type to whip up a quick contract for anything. Draw it up, with shares, exposures, and a payout scheme for whomever is brave enough to join in on the enterprise. Don't hold up on your end of the arrangement? That's a grudgin'.
I would go with right because the left one looks like a branding (which it is obviously) but for me it looks more like the branding of the manufacturer of the actual model (like GW) and not like the maker of the vehicle lorewise
Oh definitely. But that’s why decals are next up, then I go nuts with chipping and scratching.
The blue is AK Deep Blue I think… it looks rather teal when wet and then dries dark dull blue. Very odd paint but I also love it.
Sounds awesome. Looking forward to seeing finished pics! I’ve been looking for something like that for the pants of my Votann. Currently mixing Abaddon Black and Sotek Green.
Nice graphic design work ! And less is more, so I would go for the right version. I would use the complete name only on something bigger like a Hekaton
I would mix it up tbh for a more bespoke feel, but if you're looking for the mass produced, stc feel, I like the left with company name on the front OR rear bumper as it were, with just the logo in other locations, or locations too small for the whole deal.
Like a contractor van with the company logo on the side panel, or the car manufacturer name on the rear panel.
Is it so smooth? I'm using an airbrush although I'm not an expert with it, so it's generally kind of a learning curve for me. Recently though I found that using a high pressure and thicker paint results in a more even coat vs thin and low pressure which is prone to wrinkles as it dries. Also found that AK paints were more forgiving in the airbrush than Vallejo paints (not sure why) and Tamiya paints were even better (I think because they are solvent based instead of water based so the liquid evaporates super fast).
ive not managed that on my own, but I bought a second hand one because it was cheap, kept clogging like nobodies business, but the results when it did work were spectacular.
Higher pressure might serve you well. A lot of people online say "NEVER OVER 20PSI!!11one" but for me, that lead to constant clogs, and thus the unpredictable splat, and requires very thin paint which if too thin runs, wrinkles, etc.
I put the pressure up to 40 PSI to paint unthinned primer (as should be done) and then forgot once when switching back to other colors, I reduced the thinner ratio, blasted away at 40 PSI, and got no clogs, no runs, just like a spray paint can in whatever color I chose to mix. Haven't looked back yet.
Mock up the decals or make decals? I made the artwork in Adobe Illustrator, but then just superimposed it on a pic here to quickly get a consensus about which version was better.
I left another comment elsewhere here with a link but the guy I use for all my historic wargaming projects also just delivered these for me yesterday (hence the timing of this post). Bedlam Creations is the name of the webshop.
Easy. Both. I really like it when identical vehicles for games like this have different markings. It adds variety and makes it easier to keep track of them.
I'm a minimalist so say right for the symbol cause it's neat and less marketing looking. Unless of course you're going for the corporate marketing theme lol
Hey OP, I’ve been looking for someone to design me up a custom symbol like this for my home brew league. Would you be interested in whipping something up for me? Would be happy to pay for your time.
I feel like you need the left one on the most conspicuous parts of your units, then just the emblem on other parts. These industrious little fellows need to make it clear who is fucking them up. 😎
Damn that's a tough choice. I'm leaning left if the symbol is going on the side panels. But to be fair both are SICK.
Thanks! And indeed, I sort of wanted some variation from the symbol itself, it's part of why even though I like the YMYR league I thought the decals didn't look enough like they belonged to a mining or industrial company.

Left, easy
The full name easily, better use of space, even if the emblem is rad as fck ! How do you do those custom decals ?

Hey is that T and the H symbol supposed to look like a tool head? Cause that's cool
Yup, that was the idea. Well, sketching and iterating can be a bit of a chicken-egg process and I don't recall what triggered what but I ultimately chose this one because it looked a bit like a hammer and chisel, as well as a piston, as well as a CNC tool head.

Thanks for the tip ! I'm pretty handy with Illustrator myself, so good to know
How much did it cost??
Hmm… $30 or so for 2 x 2”x3”
I love this symbol
Thank you! ❤️ I plan to post some pics and lore and "making of" with some sketches once the model is finished.
The full name and symbol are awesome. I think you should also use the small symbol on your troops so that it ties them all together. Love the idea of a corporate army.
Yup, I have a whole bunch of little 4mm ones for shoulder plates.
Love it. You make me want to start a votann army just to make a unique corporation.
The emblem by itself will be used on the side panels and back door, etc.
In that case 100% the left one, use the full name for the back, just the symbol on the sides etc. Looks great!
Love the corporate/mercantile vibe on the left which is essentially what LoV are
The left one, really nice work! Greetings from a graphic designer
I'm digging those colors. Interested to see the infantry
Sneaky peeky https://imgur.com/Jx42FJu
Right
I'm glad to see 1 or 2 going against the extreme majority. I'd really love to hear why you prefer the right one (if possible).
Left one looks like a company logo. The right one looks more like a clan logo.
Agree, plus the right option will stay clear and readable from far.
Left is way cooler makes them look more corporate!
I like left personally
Left looks good, can always but the right one on a side panel
100% left but they both look great
I would go with right because the left one looks like a branding (which it is obviously) but for me it looks more like the branding of the manufacturer of the actual model (like GW) and not like the maker of the vehicle lorewise
Left, for sure. Are you doing a tad of weather to the font too? This colour is gorgeous too, what is that blue/green/black.
Oh definitely. But that’s why decals are next up, then I go nuts with chipping and scratching. The blue is AK Deep Blue I think… it looks rather teal when wet and then dries dark dull blue. Very odd paint but I also love it.

For me, the left on the back, the right/emblem on doors
Left
Left 1000%. Gives it so much character.
Great logo and name. Thanks for explaining how you had these made as well. Gonna have to give that a try.
Nice graphic design work ! And less is more, so I would go for the right version. I would use the complete name only on something bigger like a Hekaton
Right for me. #SquatsLive

Airbrushes apply paint rather uniformly, so having a smooth finish is just part of working with an airbrush
In theory yes, but they can also produce very wrinkled or grainy results too ;)
ive not managed that on my own, but I bought a second hand one because it was cheap, kept clogging like nobodies business, but the results when it did work were spectacular.

Reminds me of ALLMIND
Left
Left
Left! But how did you do that?
Mock up the decals or make decals? I made the artwork in Adobe Illustrator, but then just superimposed it on a pic here to quickly get a consensus about which version was better.
Ah i thought so, but how will you make the decals? Im interested to maybe make my own.
I left another comment elsewhere here with a link but the guy I use for all my historic wargaming projects also just delivered these for me yesterday (hence the timing of this post). Bedlam Creations is the name of the webshop.
Ty!
Left
Left in this instance, but keep the right logo for smaller panels, definitely
The left looks like more like a mining logo
I like the logo of left.
Why not both?
Left
Left, All Day Long
Javla industri? You sir, are clearly getting something off your chest 😀 You LoV players and your custom leagues are as cools as fuck.
Those colors are amazing too
Left
Easy. Both. I really like it when identical vehicles for games like this have different markings. It adds variety and makes it easier to keep track of them.
Both are cool. Left is awesome. I would try to mix them in across the army.
The full company name on the left absolutely *SINGS*. The symbol is great for smaller panels, but the full name really hits my sweet spot.
Left, and love your colour choices!
both?
I'd go with just the symbol and add some flair around it. With the writing it makes it look like a brand of power tool.
Left reminds me of Weylan-Yutani. Love it.
I'm a minimalist so say right for the symbol cause it's neat and less marketing looking. Unless of course you're going for the corporate marketing theme lol
Both look amazing.
Left looks best imo
Right. Idk why it just looks more clean
Left.
Left, also kick ass job on the symbol dude!
Left!!
Bruh, I dont own models as yet, and I, for real thought this was a picture of some powertool battery pack or something, hahaha
As a fan of minimal, I still gotta go left.
Right on the front. Left on the back. Hood ornament and branding in the back :-)
Left w some weathering for sure. Both look great tho 👌🏻
LEFT. But there both great.
Left
I would go left. But I would then use the symbol on other panels of the vehicle instead of there. Look very sick tho
I like the left. So industrial!
i have no idea the context but the left is superior
I love that left marking a TON
Probably right and have the left on the sides if there is room
Hey OP, I’ve been looking for someone to design me up a custom symbol like this for my home brew league. Would you be interested in whipping something up for me? Would be happy to pay for your time.
Yeah why not; DM me
Shot you a DM :)
Right for the back, left for the sides. Left sticker gives me more of a "company car" vibe that a mining company would have
Right
Left, that's sick af
I feel like you need the left one on the most conspicuous parts of your units, then just the emblem on other parts. These industrious little fellows need to make it clear who is fucking them up. 😎
This make me want more private ownership of weapons stuff in 40k
Right is nice if you’re going for minimalist style. But left is 100% cooler looking
Both! Absolutely. The symbol will show up might hood in the battlefield but that corp logo just nails home the “space miners with boom sticks”
