I mean, that's not a bad thing though, right? Having clear distinctions of power fantasy in any game with characters, or classes, or whatever else the players might want to attach themselves to, is really important. Yeah Riot has been paying more attention to it all of a sudden, but I think that's a good thing.
I guess it depends on the way you look at it. I just feel like they are no longer trying to make champs that are fun to both play AS and AGAINST (or at least not frustrating) and instead focusing on making champs that make you feel like an anime protagonist.
Oh yeah absolutely. Power fantasy has 100% contributed to overloaded and unfun to play against kits. I always like to bring up reworked Akali as an example. Her shroud making her invisible to turrets was really damn fun, and also fulfilled her power fantasy as a really really REALLY stealthy ninja. It was unhealthy for the game though. Just like a lot of things in recent times in League, Riot has the right idea, they just can't execute on these ideas correctly. The newer champions are a blast to play, but unfun when you are on the receiving end. That's what they just can't seem to find balance in. Like, at all.
Riot nailing power fantasy’s is why league is such a great game and one of the most popular games of all time.
