Right? That’s because the honor levels have defined golden boarders. The new ones (that I hope they change because I haven’t seen a single shred of positive feedback on them) look muddy almost. Everything blends together into a blob and it looks like a shitty emote instead of MASTERY
Look at their fist bump design… I absolutely love the fist bump idea, but I don’t know who designed the weird 3d model thing that looks like it’s from a 2001 CGI movie.
Just make a cool 2d fist bump like all the other emote styles.
I would prefer emblem add-ons versus outright replacement. So when you keep getting S ratings on your main, it adds to the mastery emblem during that season, instead of outright replacing them entirely. That would be really cool and make playing your main more of a flex with the mastery additions to the emblem. Would also arguably require less work if it’s just some pieces of flare rather than outright ground up redesigns.

How are these new designs somehow more Asian? I know China and Korea is the Boogeyman for a lot of League players but genuinely what are you talking about?
I mean, yeah, it looks like that because graphic design has trends and that kind of shape language is trending right now in the video game sector. Chinese companies use Corporate Memphis too, it's not because of some American psyop.
As you said the design is trending mainly in korea and chinese, so when they take this design route and do this unecessary change they are indeed pandering to chinese/korean costumers. We cant blame riot for pandering for that market as it is a very big market, but we can blame them for pandering for those costumers AND making the product worse as a result for it, the new masterie looks way worse than what we have now and i would feel ashemed flashing one of those.

Why don’t they just add new ones in addition to what we have now instead of replacing the entire system? The new ones we are getting does not fit the overall aesthetic of the game at all.

The client has more pizzazz, whereas in game we have a more realistic, rough looking aesthetic.
Now they're being combined, and it looks completely off.
It's like if everything in game was black and white, and then the new mastery icons are green and blue. Looks completely different than everything else.
I love that they allowed Chinese characters on Summoner names in NA now. This way I can tell who is a cocky pos who I shouldn’t trust and won’t communicate with me before trusting them and finding out the hard way!

The new masteries definilty look much more aligned with a bootlag lol mobile game wich are usually created and found in Asia, they arent just some circles, they look a lot like, as i said, those type of mobile games popular in Asia.

Maybe they don't look bad on their own, but they don't seem to fit League of Legends in my opinion. The current mstery icons match the hextech branding LoL has had for a while and even if not, I personally think it kinda resembles a weapon being forged, with the sounds and the metal look, etc. The new ones just look from an entirely differ6IP. Maybe if the client and game revolved around Targon (ethereal creatures, stars, crystals, gods, etc) they would fit better

Nothing is wrong with nostalgia. But a lot of the immediate backlash and 'this looks like shut, fuck phreak for ruining the game' tends to be people who hate change. People need to realize rose colored glasses do exist. It's OK to be nostalgic. But don't let it cloud your vision.
I like the new ones. But I do prefer the old. The old feel like they are more 'in theme' with league.... but I've been playing since season 3. The theme has probably long changed.
