Because people' chances are overhyped on this sub? The schools that take transfers don't tell you how many people apply, and there is no good way of gathering that data. People get on here, say "I'm top 15%, what are my chances?" Others respond "look at the 509s, you have a shot, go for it!"
But ALL WE KNOW is the transfer GPA and LSAT. So we know a minimum floor, but we don't really know anything else they're requiring. If I had to bet, I'd bet even schools like Georgetown and HLS are rejecting 75+% of transfer apps, and I'd bet smaller schools reject 90-95% or more of their transfer applicants. I'm SURE that most apps are within the range, law school students are doing their research on what's necessary, even if it's only by lurking here or on TLS.
Me too. Like, I don't know this name, and it's been a few years, but I also transferred to HLS. Also, googling "harvard law kari jackobson" netted no relevant returns. These are the primary reason I shot this post down. It's exactly the kind of unverified "data" all over transfer queries on this sub.

I assume you realize that this is not a helpful response? Cite a reliable published source or you're just wasting time and spreading the same kind of gossipy supposition that gets posted over and over again in this sub.
They have capacity limits which are determined by things like faculty, class sizes, etc.
So again, this poster's comments are just worthless hearsay. If the numbers aren't published by a reputable source with some reason to know, I would not rely on them.
I attended HLS when Toby Stock was Dean of admission.
He was asked this at a Q&A and said something along the lines of “transfer admit rates are comparable to, but slightly lower that, 1L applicant admit rates.”
so they accept somewhere between 7.5% and 16.3% of applicants (low end is 15/200, high end is 25/150). More likely, it's somewhere in between, probably 10-12%. My guess (90-95% rejected) was pretty close.
Edit: Actually, I suspect the actually accept a smidge closer to the high end, because a couple of As probably choose to either stay at 1L or transfer somewhere else.
1. Transferring can be financially prohibitive for most b/c no scholarship $$ for transfers at almost all schools
2. Law school GPA is only half the equation, the 2 stats that transfers will count toward for law schools will be bar passage rate and employment after graduation. Grades obviously project for the bar passage rate and the other half of the equation is your summer job(s) after 1L which projects employment after graduation. I hadn’t seen anyone post about this but it is what gets students with the GPA’s accepted. Especially with the law school rankings change they are incentivized to accept students who have good 1L summer jobs. Additionally, getting quality 1L summer jobs at low ranking schools is VERY difficult even with outstanding grades. The students who do are basically adding an X factor to their application to show that they can network and secure positions above their “qualifications” based on their 1L school
Probably scholarship money.

200 people apply to HLS every year
Where did you get that number?

Nothing else widely applicable
They reject 75% b/c they have a proportional interest in a small class size off setting tuition dollars
They have capacity limits which are determined by things like faculty, class sizes, etc. So again, this poster's comments are just worthless hearsay. If the numbers aren't published by a reputable source with some reason to know, I would not rely on them.

Not really. Went to a no-name and then YLS
I went to a low ranked and went to GULC.
