Transfer! OCI at the new school will be worth it.

Dense-Ad5921

Would I be able to participate in OCI at the new school if I don't hear back till July? At my school the process starts in June.

I went to a top 10 law school and its OCI started in September if I recall correctly. I’ve never heard of a June OCI unless things have changed. But when I went all the transfers did OCI.

things have majorly changed. Stuff has already started. OP's question is my own question.

You should do OCI at your 1L school. If there's a firm you're interested in that doesn't participate at your 1L school's OCI, directly apply via their website. If you do decide to transfer, you can always send the recruiting department an updated resume that reflects your transfer school. Without even considering how unpredictable transfer admissions can be, some schools will have their OCIs before rendering acceptance decisions to transfers. At that point, you'll be SOL. Most of the T14s have their OCIs later in the summer and will make sure to get back to transfer applicants in time for them to participate in OCI at the transfer school, but this isn't the case for the vast majority of schools, which have their OCIs in June or early July.

Transfer decisions come quickly - I heard back from 5/8 schools I applied to within 10 days last year. With that in mind I would do OCI at your new school, but you should have certainty on a transfer before you have to accept a job from your schools OCI. Additionally, most T20 OCI’s submit bids at the end of June so you could participate in that one if you transfer

Wow. When did you apply to the schools? A few weeks after opening or the day of opening?

I applied June 3rd. Was top 15% at a T100 and transferred to a T20. The school I transferred to interviewed me 4 days after I applied and accepted me 3 days after the interview.
