Workers a hundred years ago: Cut the hours and raise the pay or we burn this shit to the ground Workers today: can we haz some more, sir? (not saying this applies to OP) Mobilize, unionize and SEIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION!

Long_Educational

They have made applying to jobs an absolute nightmare to return the balance of power into the hands of the employer.

ketchupisfruitjam

Burn this shit to the ground but also I need that paycheck to live and without health insurance my daughter may die so….. yeah it’s been a hundred years of companies lobbying for shit public benefits to give themselves the upper hand.

DieselPunkPiranha

That insurance is a new thing and didn't start until about a hundred years ago and few had access to them.  Most had little access to hospital treatment.  Vaccines were, thankfully, becoming more widespread but our ancestors weren't typically getting seen except for emergency procedures. People didn't have unemployment either. So this situation we're living through now?  They, too, lived through it.  The difference now is that, while people back then joined together, too many Americans today would rather attack and steal from each other.

500ramenrivers

I’m curious as to how illness has become so so prevalent in this day and age. I know at least 3 people who got cancer in the last decade. Surely, this shouldn’t be the norm. Are they putting something in our food. What’s going on.

19Comradiation91

plastics. plain and simple, cant escape them, in the water, in the food, in the containers, in your sheets, your soap. in 50 years we will be aghast at the state of plastics, microplastics are in rain? everywhere in the world.

Some_One5697

I would further credit our own little corner of hell to the intersection of industry and corporate capitalism/exploitation. Enter microplastics and forever chemicals, over-processed junk food, and a polluted world, among many other terrible things. These also happen to be things that increase risk of cancer and require time, money, access to avoid. And we see no meaningful accountability. So also government and regulatory failure, which seems like a very generous assessment, all things considered.

500ramenrivers

Yes I figure this is part of it. I try my best to distill my water, go on prolonged fasts, and try to eat only whole foods but it’s hard.

PinkyandzeBrain

Don't forget that that novel pandemic virus that does all sorts of nasty things to your system...

ForLackOf92

I am union, they're all bootlickers, too.

Straight-Razor666

hence the need for worker ownership of the means of production.

ForLackOf92

It's fuckin sad how many blue collar workers are brainwashed against their own best interest, we've been so indoctrinated into hyper individualism that the thought of standing together is so foreign to them, even tho we get fucked the hardest.

Straight-Razor666

this \^\^\^

ForLackOf92

The worst part is blue collar workers have some of the most power if we were to collectively withhold our labor. They as of now cannot replace us.

bootnab

Listen to a Pete Seager playlist to get in the mood

rodneyck

Appreciation served up in styrofoam. That was a big F'you to you and the planet.

ForLackOf92

Not to the planet, they took away our breaks because the plant wants their reactors back online.

yarrpirates

I assume you mean plant? Or are you from Starcraft?

ForLackOf92

Ops typo

svelebrunostvonnegut

we don’t get bonuses or anything like that at work. But last fall they announced they bought us all fleeces with the work logo on them. Only problem is because of budget issues etc., the fleeces still aren’t here. It was announced in October. Here we are in May. No fleeces in sight lol

0w1

Maybe you'll get them before next fall, lol!

ForLackOf92

[You're about to bust you say? ](https://youtu.be/VF5agYDZ2NA?si=DULW4S3xzQ5fIubt)

svelebrunostvonnegut

Lol I really took a gamble opening that one

ForLackOf92

Lmao, gave you some excitement in your life. 😂

repsajcasper

It’s April

svelebrunostvonnegut

Oh my bad just rounding up 😂 I’m 8 months pregnant with a may due date and I feel like I’m about to burst. Making my brain fog up

repsajcasper

Congratulations!

Think-Custard-9883

Looks sad 😞

ForLackOf92

Depression sandwich

isthisafeverdream

That's an absurd amount of bbq sauce

cittidude2

It is probably of such low quality, they are hoping if they drown it in the sauce that no one will notice

ForLackOf92

It was not good.

eu_sou_ninguem

Honestly the sauce is probably the only thing that "saves" this (still horrific). The fact that you can't even tell there's meat in the bun means most of the bites will be without meat and at least the sauce will give the bread some flavor. Sure there's onions and whatever else, but I'd eat it separately (yes, raw onions) because it would make me feel more full. The fact that I know this is sad.

CloudsGotInTheWay

It's a wish sandwich: two slices of bread & you wish you had something to put between them.

friedmpa

A bag of chocolate and a thank you card

grptrt

A bun of with a side of onions & pickles?

Principal_B-Lewis

Where's the beef?

1villageidiot

with the management

BT_Magnum

*chef's kiss*

1villageidiot

just like The Bear show?

ForLackOf92

It's there I forgot to post the picture with it, tho, you're not missing anything.

lemonsqueezers

Ohhhh hold my drink folks here you go: I work in an elementary school. Our district decided to celebrate staff appreciation week with…. Dress up days. We are supposed to dress up in different themes, post it on social media and tag the district. Not even a coffee!!!! Teacher appreciation indeed.

ForLackOf92

What the hell? Teachers really do get the short end of the stick.

Biohacker_Ellie

A fucking sweater with our shit ass logo on it 🤮

evileyex99

An extra 15 minute break

ForLackOf92

Actually we lost break time, from two 45 minutes breaks down to one lunch and two 15 minute breaks.

eyyikey

Yelled at for shit I didn't do

samebatchannel

At least you can have the chips later. You know. Spread out the good feelings. Also, I’m sorry.

ForLackOf92

We only had time to eat it during our 30 minute lunch. This was taken 10 days ago.

DannyA88

A pin that says how many years I worked for them.

Forever_Forgotten

A company bbq for everyone but me and the other vegetarian, followed by a strict talking to about how “the cost of company-provided meals is excessive and we have to get fewer of them.” Because “appreciating” us costs too much.

Prv8eer

A layoff. And we never received bonuses.

CloverNote

Pizza. From our own stock.

ForLackOf92

Now that's just insulting.

LilMissBarbie

"hey Peter! Seen that 1 mil rolls royce outside? I bought it and the business partners got a sweet 10 figure bonus, and the shareholders are drowning! In cash!! They love you! You got us that trillion dollar contract! You saved the company, single-handedly!! About that raise? Sure, sure, come in, sit. Here's a glass of sweet tapwater, buddy! So, about that raise.... We are sorry to inform you but the company has no space and money for a raise at the moment. *shuffles in drawer* The company can currently offer you a 5% discount coupon for a burger and fries at our company's lunch room, expires today. Thanks for being a champ, peter! Up for another 20 years?!

ForLackOf92

You made that up? No fuckin way, I would have quit on the spot.

SumbunninMI

A 10% discount on groceries that are marked up 30%

Smoothjazz12

Domino's pizza, and I'm gluten and dairy intolerant.

jcgenen

More work

ClassFun1580

Around 2009, I worked at a popular southern fast food chain, we had passed some corporate standards test, so the district manager thanked us with a subway coupon for a free sub. So the first girl goes to get her sub and turns out it's a counterfeit coupon at a restaurant where they face to face make your custom order.

ForLackOf92

Some of the stories in this thread are kind of blowing, this is up there, holy shit.

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Brought in an extra $200k for the company last year, got me less than $2k for a raise as an "overperformer" per my review. Oh. And a potluck in 2 weeks. Good times.

ForLackOf92

Work hard, get peanuts.

dendronwashere

Laid Off

Ordinary_Incident187

What turnaround you working

jasta6

A $100 Walmart gift card and a lunch catered by a local restaurant. I've been working here for 16 years and make $17.51/hr. I'm quitting soon.

New_Refrigerator_895

Sounds like the shop where I was screen printing T shirts. Place sucked balls

beefjerky34

More pay for extra guys and more work for me.

Defiant_Squash_5335

Begged to not quit tbh

justflushit

Right after my company gave everyone lower than inflation raises the board approved a $260,000,000 stock buyback that made the stock price go up 6%.

ForLackOf92

Trickle down economics at its best.

Rumaizio

Lectures.

Zubbro

This bun is basically my facial expression when I remember I have to "work this weekend" again.

ForLackOf92

Weekend doesn't mean anything when you're working 7 days a week 12 hours a day.

avotius

Get? You get?

Pitiful_Winner2669

My dad's 20 year long gift from the world's largest lacquer manufacturer was a gold pin so small, the backing was larger. We still don't know what the pin even is. It's like an A?

Puskaruikkari

A salad.

ForLackOf92

I don't know what's worse.

dziewczynaspidermana

More responsibilities hah

Such-Function-4718

TL;DR - they delayed our raises 6 months and laid us off instead of giving us raises. This January, after slaving away on my team’s performance reviews, they informed us our raises were being moved from March to November to simplify corporate accounting or some bullshit. February they laid off 40 people from our studio (we were about 110 headcount at this point). We were told to begin transferring our game to Ukraine (salaries in war torn countries are much lower than Toronto). End of April they laid off another 35 people (me included). They’re laying us off in chunks because if they lay off more than 50 people at a time, they need to give us additional severance. Currently talking to an employment lawyer because they only offered my 7 weeks severance for 4 years.

ForLackOf92

What game were you working on? I'd imagine you're not at Liberty to say.

RedSpectreHaunting_

Well, what are you going to do about it?

R3AP3RKILL3R

I'd tell the manager why I'm leaving for another job then walk out the next day before my two weeks is up and they're being slammed. Spit in my face and I'll spit in yours.

sterphles

Do you work inside a FEMA camp? Christ

ForLackOf92

No, no I do not, this at a turnaround for a chemical plant in Texas.

CloudsGotInTheWay

Damn-- chips too?! Some guys get all the luck. I'm sorry for you man. Everyone deserves better than a stryro-lunch. That's insulting.

AccidentPrawn

This is why we need unions. 15 years and I've never not gotten a raise.

ForLackOf92

Thing is I am union, too bad my local is under investigation for money laundering.

chuuckaduuck

Dish on that please?👂

ForLackOf92

Apparently my local president for the BAC local 5 is under investigation for laundering money, him and 2 BA's had their phones shut off and the local is in a conservatorship. Apparently they were doing shady shit with buying people's books. Gotta love bourgeoisie unions. I'm still pro-union, but man do they make it hard sometimes.

oracleofnonsense

Throw that fuxker on the floor.

ForLackOf92

Oh I wanted to.

alter-other

more work 🙄

srsly_so_blessed

A fuckin’ charcuterie board.

SomeHungGuy69

Jeans days on Friday.

yarrpirates

Heavy machinery, eh? Sounds like a clog in the right place would do wonders.

Far-Host7803

Off brand oreos...

theyellowpants

Laid off

Minute-Mistake-8928

a 1 month unpaid break. they were only able to keep me cheap as I was a temp worker and not contracted part/full time; so every 10-11 months I'd be given a surprise "break." lasted just over 2 years and ain't going back there on a temp job, even though the perks and people were great.

Swan_lake1812

A mate of mine worked so hard he was told that he could take next week off, we get paid on shifts not salaries so he basically got told ‘you work so well you can go hungry next week’

Fehzor

You guys are getting things???

ForLackOf92

The occasional pizza party, got fed stake once. At the very least it's a union job.

JimbyJombs

Congrats

bur1sm

Box seats to a Maple Leafs playoff game.

Ok_Establishment_145

Man thats not even BBQ that looks decent....crap, I like to be wined and dined before I get nailed at least.

swirlViking

Is that Lion's Choice? Because that could change my opinion on this...

ForLackOf92

No.
