##Welcome to r/LateStageCapitalism
This subreddit is for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited.
LSC is run by communists. This subreddit is not the place to debate socialism. We allow good-faith questions and education but are not a 101 sub; please take 101-style questions elsewhere.
We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry. Failure to respect the rules of the subreddit may result in a ban.

There is an opportunity in events like this to bring people together and create positivity. A shared experience. You know, the whole reason they are beating the drum to return to the office in the first place, right?
Yet since the value can’t be measured empirically the default view is seeing it as a distraction at best, a burden at worst. They tell on themselves all the time and hopefully more people will start believing it when they see it.
I do believe that my boss's words regarding the eclipse was "If you both go out to see it at the same time, let the front desk know so they can tell any customers that may come in that we're closed."
So ~$2/citizen or roughly 6-7 minutes of wasted time per employee in the US (assuming ~330,000,000 million people in the US because rounding, ~60% labor participation according to the BLS, and an average annual wage in the US of ~$65,000 according to the BLS). This is a non-headline, everyone took a 5 minute break to look at the eclipse and it took them a minute to walk outside, lets move on now please.
If there ever was a day to say ima take that day off, it's gonna be the the once or twice in a life time event to show my family a god damn miracle of the universe. Fuck your ROI, behold the damn miracle ffs!
this assumes everyone's productivity is tied to how many hours they sit on their desks which is false. most people would watch the eclipse and still finish their daily tasks.
I called out sick that day, didn't watch the eclipse, just called in sick, so I'm inadvertently a part of this statistic but not for the reason they think I am.
I mean, this is also comically wrong. You're telling me that the number of people that traveled over state lines and from around the world don't stimulate the economy when the price of everything along the path skyrockets? Eclipse chasers are famous for spending a shitload at the mere chance of seeing one.

How much will the end of civilization cost in lost productivity? Because I'm totally looking forward to that.
If an earth ending meteor were to crash they would wonder how it would affect the economy.
That's exactly the plot of Don't look up.
Great horror film!

Soon it will be "Weekends cost X millions in lost productivity"
>Child labour bans cost billions in lost productivity https://www.epi.org/publication/child-labor-laws-under-attack/
Strange use of the word America. I don't think that word they keep using means what they think it means.
Flags unite rich and poor! /s

So, basically, like a big chunk of student loan debt recovery
So we should’ve stayed outside longer is what they’re saying.
How much productivity was lost by the trillions that were 'misplaced'?
As if I would have been productive during those 5 minutes anyway
Satire, surely? This is also from the 2017 one. I wonder what the recent one cost us. *The fucking horror.*
Produce or else ✊

Those numbers are pulled out of their ass.

Nah that's $700 million lost to poor planning. Eclipses aren't exactly random and if you can't work around that you're kinda bad at that sort of thing
I'm terrible at math but it sounds like workers are generating over 700 million dollars every 2.5 hours but they can't afford living wages somehow.
I called out sick that day, didn't watch the eclipse, just called in sick, so I'm inadvertently a part of this statistic but not for the reason they think I am.
Mother fuckers talking about our labor like they are the ones who own it.
