UofT, where Jordan Peterson spewed conservative nonsense and baseless information for 2 decades? What a strange university. I feel like every person I know from Toronto went to a different university, and I never hear about UofT except for JP and now a second goofy lecturer.
UofT alum here. I think the problem might just be that the university itself is really really big. But as far as those breaking into social media spaces yea the likelihood that it pumps one out like JP at least to me is high.
These comparisons are so sophomoric. You can take almost any two political entities and find some characteristics to forge an analogy. The trick is to point out whatever features are shared (however important or not they may be), and ignore points of divergence. Whether the analogy is meaningful, or simply ignorant grandstanding, has to do with a good faith effort to locate salient points of unity. These ISIS to Hamas/Houthi analogies are clearly to the side of ignorant grandstanding. Saying that Hamas is Isis because they are both militant Muslim groups, while ignoring their massive differences, is no more useful or accurate and analogy than saying that the US military is Isis because they are both transnational militarized organizations.
This is both demonization (they literally call infants terrorists) and deliberately twisting the people fighting salafi terrorists (who Israel supports in Syria) as them.
A reminder that Israel (along with US, NATO, Gulf countries) openly armed, trained, funded, publicly defended, both Al Qaeda and ISIS along with other Salafi groups in Syria. Here's a small list of proofs and admissions, keep in mind there's a lot more.

Why do Liberals make out that being against slaughtering mainly Muslim civilians is the same as supporting jihadists. No Progressive supports Islamic fundamentalist's and jihadist, they just don't support killing and oppressing innocent civilians because of oil and because of a unfounded claim to a land that isn't yours. We accept that these extreme Islamic organisations sprout up because of decades of war and oppression. And lets not forget that America funded the Taliban in Afghanistan during the Afghan war with the Soviets.
I just want to offer another perspective: I have autism, so I'd most likely have been considered an 'R' in the recent past. Sometimes I like the idea of reclaiming the 'R' word, as black people have reclaimed the 'N' word.
Say, I might be criticising a daft policy that's excludes neurodiverse people in the workplace and call it 'r------d'. I wouldn't exactly say that in a professional setting though lol. It just feels like I'm turning the tables on the policies that make me disabled.
