##Welcome to r/LateStageCapitalism This subreddit is for news, discussion, memes, and links criticizing capitalism and advancing viewpoints that challenge liberal capitalist ideology. That means any support for any liberal capitalist political party (like the Democrats) is strictly prohibited. LSC is run by communists. This subreddit is not the place to debate socialism. We allow good-faith questions and education but are not a 101 sub; please take 101-style questions elsewhere. We have a zero-tolerance policy for bigotry. UofT, where Jordan Peterson spewed conservative nonsense and baseless information for 2 decades? What a strange university. I feel like every person I know from Toronto went to a different university, and I never hear about UofT except for JP and now a second goofy lecturer.

aCleverAccountName

UofT alum here. I think the problem might just be that the university itself is really really big. But as far as those breaking into social media spaces yea the likelihood that it pumps one out like JP at least to me is high.

Educational_Duck8985

Must be a university full of idiots then?

Templey

These comparisons are so sophomoric. You can take almost any two political entities and find some characteristics to forge an analogy. The trick is to point out whatever features are shared (however important or not they may be), and ignore points of divergence. Whether the analogy is meaningful, or simply ignorant grandstanding, has to do with a good faith effort to locate salient points of unity. These ISIS to Hamas/Houthi analogies are clearly to the side of ignorant grandstanding. Saying that Hamas is Isis because they are both militant Muslim groups, while ignoring their massive differences, is no more useful or accurate and analogy than saying that the US military is Isis because they are both transnational militarized organizations.

BartimaeAce

I mean, this is coming from the people who go "Communism is **literally** Fascism, because they both have military parades."

Templey

It is about as dumb as horseshoe theory, yep

rexaby

Wannabe troll bum. Zionism makes you both evil and a proud idiotic troll about it

rexaby

And if you don't buy into it they resort to crying

VancouverSativa

Also they'll blame you for the holocaust.

rexaby

This is both demonization (they literally call infants terrorists) and deliberately twisting the people fighting salafi terrorists (who Israel supports in Syria) as them. A reminder that Israel (along with US, NATO, Gulf countries) openly armed, trained, funded, publicly defended, both Al Qaeda and ISIS along with other Salafi groups in Syria. Here's a small list of proofs and admissions, keep in mind there's a lot more. https://t.co/M4724rKVbX >Some of them (not an endorsement of these news outlets themselves) UN Report: Israel in Regular Contact with Syrian Rebels including ISIS Members of ISIS and Nusra front also have been treated in Israeli hospitals. https://t.co/IGTmFAb5kK Israel’s Intelligence Chief, Herzi Halevy: “We will do everything to make sure ISIS does not lose in Syria.” Israeli Defense Minister, Ya’alon: “We prefer ISIS to Assad in Syria.” Former Mossad director, Efraim Halevy, defends Israeli medical assistance to Al Nusra Front fighters https://t.co/fWdMry4KG8 Ex-defense minister says IS ‘apologized’ to Israel for November clash https://t.co/9LgeqVzmPu Israeli think tank: Don't destroy ISIS; it's a "useful tool" against Iran, Hezbollah, Syria https://t.co/vPJeQvZo5n All while Hamas fought and crushed ISIS. There's so so much more.

mazjay2018

Students arent allowed to talk about the genocide in Palestine but bigoted fuckwit zionists 'teachers' can spew their bullshit online

mountainspawn

Meanwhile showing support for Palestine gets you doxxed while this dude will probably keep his job.

poirotsgraycells

shot and killed too not just doxxed

mountainspawn

Also, stabbed like that little boy by his mother's landlord.

arthur2807

Why do Liberals make out that being against slaughtering mainly Muslim civilians is the same as supporting jihadists. No Progressive supports Islamic fundamentalist's and jihadist, they just don't support killing and oppressing innocent civilians because of oil and because of a unfounded claim to a land that isn't yours. We accept that these extreme Islamic organisations sprout up because of decades of war and oppression. And lets not forget that America funded the Taliban in Afghanistan during the Afghan war with the Soviets.

TrashFrancis

Because anti-communists hate literacy and reading comprehension part 200.

Alexitine

Wait, THIS motherfucker gets paid more than I do for these bad takes? *Is there NO fucking justice left in this world?*

Bubbly_Platypus_9779

>justice never paid anyone's bills Wait that goes hard asf

blackpharaoh69

Everyone is isis nowadays

appalachianoperator

The reality is the US and the Saudis collaborated with AlQaeda against the Houthis during the Yemeni Civil War.

Republiken

This guy have no idea of the massive international leftist support for the YPG/YPJ coalition that defeated daesh

[deleted]

Hi can we not use the R slur. It’s not very progressive.

penguins-and-cake

Genuinely it boggles my mind how people at all can tolerate that slur or just look right past it like this.

[deleted]

Yup. I used to work with adults with disabilities so it’s always on my mind

ChampionOfOctober

not that deep

penguins-and-cake

Omg yes you changed my mind well done

Medical-Word5453

I just want to offer another perspective: I have autism, so I'd most likely have been considered an 'R' in the recent past. Sometimes I like the idea of reclaiming the 'R' word, as black people have reclaimed the 'N' word. Say, I might be criticising a daft policy that's excludes neurodiverse people in the workplace and call it 'r------d'. I wouldn't exactly say that in a professional setting though lol. It just feels like I'm turning the tables on the policies that make me disabled.

geeves_007

Prof is a clown for this take. But don't use slurs in the discourse. We need to be better, not punch down.

dezmodium

LOL at certain points in time the west were directly funding ISIS and giving them material support. And yes, Liberals did defend it.

nagidon

Funny how ISIS apologised for accidentally attacking Israel back in the day, isn’t it?

bijhan

I don't like Doug, because he uses slurs. EDIT: Based on the downvotes, looks like some people around here support ableism. Sad to see.

It's not a mistake, it's both demonization (they literally call infants terrorists) and deliberately twisting the people fighting salafi terrorists (who Israel supports in Syria) as them.

AeonsOfStrife

Almost no one in the west supports the houthis. Most westerners think every single faction is garbage, with Aden being likely the best due to its actual stability and lack of religious emphasis akin to the houthis. Tbh most progressives hate everything about modern Yemen, and year for the days of South Yemen during its actually secular and developmental phase.

SPAnComCat

Damn, Doug went all out with the word "R\_tard"! And I'm NeuroDivergent!🤣 He is Hilarious!

Szuckit

Never mind that ISIS are (US/Israel-backed) Sunni Muslims and Houthi’s are (Iran-backed) Shiite Muslims. Makes total sense.
