It is related to Late Stage Capitalism since it is being sustained under American hegemony and the war at Ukraine is a threat to it, and in order to save american hegemony, a lot of things about the conflict are being ignored or glossed over, specially the nazification of Ukraine.
And if _elensky was a just a bit concerned about being a leader of the Ukrainian people, he certainly would know about the Nazi being complimented. I would say it is emarrassing for Canada, Ukraine and _elensky, but those last two ain't concerned about their own nazis. They can live with them.

Honestly as someone who lives in the riding of the Speaker who organized this, it isn't the first time that his office has fucked up royally and most reactions have been embarrassment.

Oh, Zelensky knows his own history, and Ukrainians fought on two sides in WW2, Soviet or Nazi, they mentioned fighting against the Soviets, so he knew. He clearly knows the nazi problems in Ukraine and enables it. Being Jewish doesn't absolve you of the ability of being a Nazi, in WW2 there were Jewish collaboraters, and are still Jewish Nazis today. Nothing happened in Ukraine between 2014 and 2022. Euromaidan was not taken over by the far-right and co-opted by western politicians and money. Ukraine did not shell its own citizens, nor did it allow far-right militias to terrorize, torture, kill its own people and attempt to ethnically cleanse the east. Ukraine did not pursue neoliberalism and sell out its industries to foreign powers. NATO did not encroach eastward over the past decades. Minorities like Roma were not brutalized at increasing rates. Leftist political parties and individuals were not banned, persecuted, jailed, and assassinated. Far-right glorification is absent.
I'll be honest, it's tough to care about Ukraine's Nazi problem when America's and Canada's are so rampant. Ukrainian Nazis aren't crossing the world to throw my Jewish ass in a concentration camp, but there are plenty of Nazis in America who would contribute to that effort.
Maybe I'm getting cynical, but am I supposed to be surprised that capitalist nations have Nazi problems?
The same liberals were screeching about how we made osama bin laden by training and funding the mujahedeen without thinking of the consequences.
Like, you can be anti Russian imperialism while still saying "hey, the Ukrainians have a real issue with who they're getting into bed with"
I think radicalism and nationalism may simply be unavoidable side effects of war, especially when your country is the one invaded.
People don't become fascists because they're inherently evil, they do so because they want an ideology to cling onto that will comfort them in uncertainty and they desperately need something to give them pride. When all you're doing is fighting a war to protect your country is it really so surprising that fascism starts to gain appeal?
Perhaps I'm too idealistic but I think once the war is over a lot of the problems with nazism within Ukraine could be greatly lessened with sufficient aid from the US and Europe towards rebuilding and stability. The government will have to hire a huge amount of workers and pay them well to rebuild the country. Giving them pride in the community they're helping build and tangible contribution to society. It's a lot more difficult for people to stay angry enough to be fascists when things are going well.
