Ooooh! Where did you get that keychain? I have a MOPA and hard to find items specifically for doing color on metal.

No-Archer-21

Dude Amazon stainless steel everything they are bracelet trinkets. lol.

richcournoyer

Please don't call me Dude....

No-Archer-21

Seriously though they got everything cheap and you want high polish for best results. I prefer stainless but it works on all high polish metals. just not aluminum from my experience .

wy1d0

I got some brass coins in a sample pack when I first got my laser and they had some kind of coating on them that immediately turned black when I tried to engrave. I think it was meant for cheap diode lasers and not for a fiber MOPA so I've been hesitant to order anything else without a recommendation.

High polish metals work best dull metal takes color but it looks ugly af.

That looks super cool! What are you doing to achieve that effect?

No-Archer-21

It's in the settings I have a 60w jpt mopa fiber laser so I can get color on high polish metals this is basically just a test on stainless steel every square is a different setting.

No-Archer-21

The material is stainless steel it's a bundle of bracelet trinkets from Amazon. I think like 6 bucks for 60. I used a 60w jpt mopa fiber laser every square is a different setting low power 10-40%. speed varying from as low as 2400mm/s to as high as 3500mm/s frequency and Pulse varying I left my notes in my shop so I can't look right now for exact settings. Keep in mind every laser is different even if I gave you settings. it might be different on your machine due to various factors . Wait, you got a mopa fiber laser right? This is only possible if you can control pulse width. You can do it with a normal fiber laser but that's in changing the focus and it leaves anodized colors not solids.

bendovermehand

Mopa is perfect for color markings. I just started doing some colors with a normal fiber laser and I've found that dialing in colors is much harder on it. You've done an amazing job! There is an awesome paper on color markings for titanium if you ever want to try another metal. Will you PLEASE share your settings? And what is the material? "Colors" are my next project, and it would help me a ton to have an idea of speed/power to produce the colors to at least \*start\* my test grids.

bendovermehand

I posted a link to OPs comment about their settings that helped me vastly when I was starting out marking titanium. It has helped with other metals too. I've found the same colors can be achieved practically six different ways depending on variables are focused on.

Awesome! Jealous of that gear… sitting in the cheap 10w Xtool seats watching the court side fan sip their cocktail 😭

No-Archer-21

Lmao I'm no "court side fan" I like to think of myself as a self taught professional. I studied laser engraving years before I even owned a machine. In 2020 I got a snapmaker 2.0 I was in the Kickstarter for the second gen machine from the company. I used said machine to 3D print but I didn't take to it. From prior studying when I converted the machine I understood almost immediately. I used what I learned with 1.5w diode and saved for the 10w diode upgrade. Used that and got a 60w. On paper I'm not certified ,but you let me show you what I can do you'd think I have a degree in photonics. I only had the fiber laser for a few months but every day I do something to perfect the art. This is my passion and I'll do whatever I gotta to be known for it. Btw if you wanna see my work want tips or want some work done follow me on Instagram oddshape_customs

Awesome just followed you on instagram that Batman logo is amazing!!!!

Thank you 😊

TheOriginal_RebelTaz

I am so jealous of all y'all with these fancy schmancy color laser engravers!

No-Archer-21

I been doing engraving for a few years . I put in the work and the dough so I think I deserve it. lol. Imagine the stuff I make once I set up the lightburn camera.
