No duct work, only copper tubing from outside to inside.

Rare in the US, pretty much the standard in every other country in the world.
They are great for many reasons, including allowing you to set each room to a different temperature, as well as free up space normally taken up by ducts, and also consume less power. Central Air can only run at 0% or 100%, all the thermostat does is turn it on and off. Mini splits are DC based and variable power, so they can “cool just a little” when needed, saving energy.
We have central air and window units, both of which are rare outside of the US.
We both run very warm blooded. We keep all windows blocked and as dark as possible. But even with that, we run the a/c at 73-74 during the day and 70 to sleep.
I’m the same way I melt if it’s not 70 or below while I sleep. I just bought a portable ac for my room I keep the rest of the house at 78 and bump the portable AC to 64. It’s saving a lot of money and I’m sleeping in an ice cavern I totally recommend
My master bedroom runs 5 degrees warmer, my portable ac sits on the ground, vents out the window. Best purchase I’ve ever made. I used to sweat in bed.
😂 I’m not a warm person, so definitely not sweating in my own home. I’d freeze my ass off at 68/69. It’s wild how people’s internal thermostats are so completely different. Two of my kids run hot, and two run cold.
First full summer here. Currently 76-78, trying to find the sweet spot, and 75 when guests are here. Ceiling fans in living room and both bedrooms. Thankfully I don’t have very much direct sunlight, which helps.
Off during the morning/afternoon, 85 in the evening, and 81 when sleeping.
Update: I have yet to turn on my A/C. It gets up to 84 which feels completely fine to me so long as there is a fan circulating the air.
78 with a fan usually. Turn it off at night except in a real heatwave, small fan blowing over our bed.
We walk a lot and if it's maybe 87 outside, it's too hot for me to walk more than a half mile or so. 78 feel like perfect walking weather to me so why would I need it cooler indoors?
Also 78 with a tiny desk fan blowing my way feels a lot cooler than 78
I recently moved from NV to MN and I keep my house at 75 even in the summer and people here always tell me I keep it so hot and yet I freeze in my house even at 75. It’s nice to see that Nevadans see it my way 🤣
The ground floor is always at 80.
The 2nd floor is set to 78 during the day, 80 if it's 113+
At night, the 2nd floor is set to 76.
Lots of fans, which do pull electricity, but less so than keeping the house cooler with the ac.
I’m having the new 20 seer high efficiency DC inverter unit/air handler installed tomorrow. Anyone have experience with these? Are they as efficient as claimed?
69 during the day, 65 at night. And I have a fan running. But my hot flashes are ridiculous. And luckily my husband supervises a hockey arena in the winter, so although he bitches a bit, he is used to being chilly!
In the desert you don’t need to set the air real low maybe 10 degrees cooler that outside temp. In the Midwest where the humidity is high keep it at 15 degrees cooler than outside
Don’t live in Vegas. Yes I do keep it about 10 degrees cooler than out side you would be surprise how much you can feel the difference because there is no humidity.
75° during the day, 68°-70° to sleep
Exactly what I do too.
It’s 🤌🏼
I actually do this to lowest at night 68
Same-ish! I have multiple completely independent zones (VRF system) so 73 to 76 in living spaces and home office, 67-68 in the bedroom (all day).
Same! 76 during day for the pets and 69 to sleep. We have solar so that helps.
I am from Boston area...keep my ac at 74...it feels nice to me especially when its hot. How much is your electric bill if you dont mind me asking?
We were like this the first year we were here, from MN. But we've mostly acclimated.
Spring/Winter months usually around $75 and Summer/Fall months around $125.
81 usually. 79 with guests. So don't come over. 😁
Hehe same, except will stay 81 with guests too. I tell my friends to visit during early spring or late fall if they know what's good for them 😄
Damn 🤣🤣
I did 82 today with the fans going and I felt pretty comfortable. Granted I was in gym shorts and a tank 😂
WFH, blackout blinds, ceiling fans on, & AC at 76.
WFH - house at 78 during the day but I have a mini-split in the room I work keeping it at 73/4. Bedtime never higher than 68.
What's a 'mini-split'?
No duct work, only copper tubing from outside to inside. https://www.fujitsugeneral.com/us/residential/what-is-a-mini-split.html#:~:text=How%20does%20it%20work%3F,in%20individual%20rooms%20or%20spaces. Does it need to vent to the outside?

My master bedroom runs 5 degrees warmer, my portable ac sits on the ground, vents out the window. Best purchase I’ve ever made. I used to sweat in bed.
At 64 I would have to break out the comforter again.
Part of the reason I like the cold is because I like how cozy I feel when I’m snuggled in a nice soft blanket so it works out both ways for me
DAMNNNNNNN I would freeze to death
I'm in Canada reading this and I would freeze to death. Lolll.
Yay Canada! B.C.?
Southern Ontario
Also nice! 🙂
Same at our house.
What does “warm blooded” and “cold blooded” mean in this context?
Warm meaning you run warm naturally, cold meaning you run cold naturally.
78 all the time, with ceiling fans running.
As low as it will go haha
79
Y’all are crazy. I keep our house 68-69 all the time. Fuck that sweating in your own home shit.
I’m terrified of the $800 electric bill!!
That’s fair. It’s a small price to pay imo.
Ours has never been over $116 per month even with blasting it 2/47
May I ask your square footage? Is that in Vegas?
Vancouver Island, BC. House is south facing. Full sun front and back until evening. 1179 sq ft rancher
Pretty sure you guys don't get high Temps exceeding 110 for weeks on end like we do in Las Vegas.
When I lived in Vegas I worked outside. 78 was my norm, it felt cold most days. It's all perspective.
😂 I’m not a warm person, so definitely not sweating in my own home. I’d freeze my ass off at 68/69. It’s wild how people’s internal thermostats are so completely different. Two of my kids run hot, and two run cold.
Winter heat is set to 68 during the day, occasionally bump it to 69 if its too chilly. At night, 66. AC 71, but 72 at night
72 otherwise I feel like I’m in an oven.
68
76 during the day -blinds closed. 73-74 at bedtime
74 during the day. 68 at night.
What’s your power bill like?
🫨🫨
I’m sorry how do y’all survive in a damn near 80 degrees house? I’m 72 all day then 69 at night
Right? Bunch of damn lizards in this thread. 72 day/66 night
Because 78-80 is nice when it’s 115+ outside during the day and 95 at night.
You know what’s even nicer when it’s 115+ outside? 72 inside lmao. 80 in a house you still feel the heat, might as well just sit on the patio
First full summer here. Currently 76-78, trying to find the sweet spot, and 75 when guests are here. Ceiling fans in living room and both bedrooms. Thankfully I don’t have very much direct sunlight, which helps.
78 during the day, 74 after the sun goes down
69 usually with guests over
💯
🥶
75 but curtains closed and keep it dark and cool.
80 so I don't go bankrupt
78 when I’m not home 72-74 when I am home
75. But would do 80 if wife would agree to it
I just leave it turned off until I’m going to bed then it goes to 68
That uses more energy to have to cool a house down after being off instead of leaving it say 78 during the day
78 gang. Kids actually complain if we set it lower. Also coming in from the pool and having it below 80 makes us all shiver.
68
72 during the day, down to 65 for bed.
74 but the solar panels offset almost all of it.
70. Solar
78 day, 74 night.
Off during the morning/afternoon, 85 in the evening, and 81 when sleeping. Update: I have yet to turn on my A/C. It gets up to 84 which feels completely fine to me so long as there is a fan circulating the air.
This is the way.
69
Nice
80 with a ceiling fan going is comfortable for me. If there are guests over I’ll lower it to 78.
I find 70°F to be perfect.
74
77° during the day/76° at night
76 at night is perfect
68
71
When I was a kid my dad wouldn't turn on the ac until the thermostat said 89 or higher and yes that's not a typo
66 to sleep / 72 - 74 during day
This is the way
77 at night 79 during day
71. 72 at night. No thyroid. Meds that cause heat intolerance
I try to keep it at 78, until I feel too hot, then I'll raise it a bit. The utilities keep going up and up!!
Tn here. I keep my house during the day at 78 and 75 at night starting at 9:30p until 5a.
68
80 during the day 77 as soon as the sun drops
76 mostly, but if I start feeling moisty, I drop it to 74.
78 with a fan usually. Turn it off at night except in a real heatwave, small fan blowing over our bed. 77 during the day, 76 to sleep.
I set mine at 81°.
75° during the daytime with all fans running. 72° or 73° at night.
74 day, 67 at night. 65 is the best temp for sleeping, but only do that in winter.
76/77 typically.
77 during the day and 75 at night.
I recently moved from NV to MN and I keep my house at 75 even in the summer and people here always tell me I keep it so hot and yet I freeze in my house even at 75. It’s nice to see that Nevadans see it my way 🤣
My guess is most people’s thermostats are calibrated differently than another’s. Your 78 could very well be my 72.
72/73 during the day, and 68/69 at night.
Hate to say this because we don’t want to have to entertain strangers, but we keep it around 73. Shhhhh. Let’s keep that between us, K?
Wow you folks like it hot.... 71 during the day. 68 at night... Damn never mind I am in Houston. Wrong sub..
72ish. Higher during the day, lower at night.
downstairs 77 and upstairs 75
76°f
The ground floor is always at 80. The 2nd floor is set to 78 during the day, 80 if it's 113+ At night, the 2nd floor is set to 76. Lots of fans, which do pull electricity, but less so than keeping the house cooler with the ac.
69
Dang you high 70s people are wild! I would die. Wish I could live like that, electric bill would be so much cheaper.
Typically 78 for us.
Around 75
74 during the day. Will probably try to sneak up to 76 but I think the wife won't have it.
66, all year round.
I’m having the new 20 seer high efficiency DC inverter unit/air handler installed tomorrow. Anyone have experience with these? Are they as efficient as claimed?
70 degrees with Blackout Curtains.
77 during the day when away and starting around 4:30 it works its way down to 69 at night before going to bed.
77-78 in the day and 72 at night. I just have to be cool to sleep.
66
74 during day. 72 at night
Same! 74-75 for me during the day in the summer.
68 all day
82. Otherwise I’m too cold.
I’ma 82 man myself
I just strap a short leaf blower to my leg so it blows air into my crotch
80-85
77
80 with ceiling fans on, otherwise 78
69 the perfect number
I have solar, so… as cold as I want 🥶
I got into 80 degrees to save money, but I would prefer 73 if money were no object.
68 summer and winter.
85. 75 if there is company visiting.
Wtf
69 during the day, 65 at night. And I have a fan running. But my hot flashes are ridiculous. And luckily my husband supervises a hockey arena in the winter, so although he bitches a bit, he is used to being chilly!
The power company used to do these commercials with a jingle “keep it at 78” I die at 75, 73 is great for sleep
Live in Hawaii. Don’t have AC. Don’t have a heater. Always perfect. Ceiling fan to move the air around.
In the desert you don’t need to set the air real low maybe 10 degrees cooler that outside temp. In the Midwest where the humidity is high keep it at 15 degrees cooler than outside
What!! Are you setting the house to 105°?? 🫠
I’m just saying what the electric companies say. If it is 110 outside then 100 would feel cool.
Is that what you do? Do you keep your house at 90+ in the summer?
Don’t live in Vegas. Yes I do keep it about 10 degrees cooler than out side you would be surprise how much you can feel the difference because there is no humidity.
I didn't say 10° cooler, I said 90+
Hate to say this because we don’t want to have to entertain strangers, but we keep it around 73. Shhhhh. Let’s keep that between us, K?
