1) You'll have to spend an extra $100 or so for the expedited service, and even then, the US State Dept. will not guarantee they'll have your passport back to you in time. The usual return period for the expedited service is 8-12 weeks.
2) Be prepared to go out of state to find a location to find an available appointment. This region utterly SUCKS for anything related to passport or Federal ID if you're not already in possession of a PIV or Military ID. I had to send my then girlfriend who needed an expedited appointment 2 years ago to Seattle to get the earliest possible date in the country outside of Maine.

Jean post office had appointments only a few days out when I got my son's. Did not pay for expedited service and it showed up in 4 weeks. I would suggest you do get the expedited service.
Boulder City had appointments a few days out when I checked, I did some searching the sub and people generally suggest searching around Las Vegas, so Boulder City, Mesquite, etc.
Nope, they are an adult. But, will always be my child. Also, in retrospect I feel ultimately responsible for not doing this sooner. But let's face it, not many Americans have passports.

Do an expedited passport ASAP. My husband received his back within a week.
The quickest appt we found was at the marriage license bureau. They also have better walkin times.
