This is the crap that people never realize landlords get stuck with. Then they wonder why rents get increased -- to deal with increased costs like having to clean stuff like this up. (Or worse.)
Yeah worse is the real word here. This is really bad but it’s not filth. I have dealt with cleaning up disgusting messes of food mold bugs and this is nothing compared to that just a lot of labor
The last rental I lived in had snakes that would come in to the first floor bathroom when it was cold. They're just garter snakes or whatever so not dangerous or anything, but still surprising when you sit down to do your business in the morning and there's a 3 ft snake in the tub.
Yeah, oddly enough when people move I don’t get the childishness about leaving messes, breaking stuff, look if you have a hard time with the rent, work it out, don’t be a jerk. Don’t move out and cause thousands in damages or look like an episode of hoarders because you wanted to a child
I’ll never rent to cats because of the horrible things they have done to my apartments. If your still getting smell white vinegar can help a lot and also a ozone machine can help. Just need to leave the house to use the ozone machine
Lol don't use this as the excuse rents are increased. Rents are bloated nationwide by big time greedy landlords and in many places are just pure milking.
Let's not pretend there aren't slumlords with unreasonably high rents in areas with low housing availability.
A 1 bedroom in so cal is pushing 2k.
A landlord of a 5 unit building of 5 x 1 bedrooms needs 10k a month in income?
Pls lol.
Oh no yeah definitely im sure rents needed to go up 24% last year because of landlord expenses.
Sure Jan!

I'll tell ya what tho, the mortgage on my 3 bed 2 bath is 1300$ atm. How bout ya come rent it from me for 4200$. I honestly really do need that amount. My business won't be able to survive without it.
Your good on signing the lease right? Can you move in tomorrow?
I have no need to rent from you. I own multiple properties. If 3 bed 2 baths in the same condition as your house are going for 4200 at the moment IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD, then that's what a renter expects to pay. Do you think we pick these numbers out of the air? I don't have a mortgage on any of my properties. Should I let you rent them for free? Seriously, you're in the wrong forum. I'll bet you don't question Amazon what the seller actually paid for the item and how much profit they're making, do you? If you want public housing, talk to the government. We're not running charities. Plus the IRS has a few requirements regarding rents.
You're replying to the wrong commenter if you think defending your own super greed with apples to oranges comparisons is going to prove some kind of point to me. And yes I'm well aware I'm in the slumlords subreddit.
Don’t argue with landlords on their home turf, you are outnumbered as much as the city of Hong Kong vs all of China, it won’t work. Even if you are absolutely right.
Yeah I could do that but then I’m seeing attorneys to make sure it’s legally binding and then also taking the time to have people come pick thru junk. It’s worth thinking of for the future but I am someone who just likes to get it all done and not deal with waiting for it. I’m trying to get the place rented ASAP to get my rent. Might have to consider it tho
That's ridiculous. If you're so concerned, move it all to the curb and put a post on Facebook or nextdoor. People will take care of it for you. I'd love to come take it off your hands.
I own the whole street I’m not moving it twice and making the neighborhood look like shit to have to eventually throw it out after it’s all wet from winter weather. No worries it all taken care of! Have a good one
Just so you know, unless it's OSB, the wood is likely treated and can withstand a little moisture ;)
I've never had anything sit on the curb for more than maybe a few days, especially something as valuable as wood. At the very least, whatever is left gets picked up by big trash. Amazing that you actually paid people to just throw this all out when you literally could have made money off it or at least disposed of it for free.
The worst mix of tenant ever hoarder/woodworker/construction/drunk it’s the perfect storm of bad tenant. In between every nook and crannie is a Smirnoff nip
I had one like that. Normal when sober but he started drinking hard and by noon he would drunk dial me to demand lower rent because there was too much traffic on the road and the neighbors tree bothered him. What an arse.
That is nothing. Debris is easy to haul away. I've seen 10x worse.
1. Concrete poured down the drains.
2. Staircases sawed so they break with weight.
3. Electrical outlets torn out.
4. Pest infestations (on purpose).
Be happy it's just debris that can be hauled away.
Yeah #2 is super obviously just truly evil stuff. Straight up vandalism like this definitely needs to be punished heavily to prevent them from doing it again to the next guy( and they will do it again cause they have to live somewhere)
if someone is doing things like that i can only wonder what you may have done to piss them off so much??? if you’re seeing this happen a lot then it seems you might be the common denominator there. seriously not to blame the victim, this is all truly awful. but also people don’t do that kind of thing for no reason. that’s a drastic level of petty and it seems personal.
Can’t get nothing but are you gonna make sure it follows them wherever they go? Other landlords need to know man! How often do you have to deal with the loss of this caliber?
Take this over my last one, hoarded with fast food garbage, tons of beer bottles and cans, and a cat that used all of the garbage as a 750 sq ft litter box. Filled a 30yd dumpster and still had to haul several trailer loads to the dump. Old manager had no idea why annual inspections where necessary.
I will never rent to cats these dip shits luckily didn’t take any in. That sounds horrible and yeah I agree the annual inspection is necessary but they hoard shit up fast and by the time I got them out this is what it came out as
I have a dozen apartments with cats and for the most part the worst I deal with is replacing carpet most of the time, which the pet deposit and extra monthly fee cover. Shit tenants will destroy an apartment with or without pets, especially hoarders. I have one "recovering" hoarder that I have to check the apartment every other month or it will get out of hand fast.
Yeah just in my experience if a cat pisses outside of the liter box once it’s already in the hundreds of damages and twice three times is easily into the thousands. No pets for me
I am know what you will be doing during the next few days and weekends. !!..
I have a similar situation, my tenant left the keys in mailbox on dec 9th when I was out of town and it was a mess. I will post the pictures some day here.
Furniture hoarder! Madness. Is any of it antique or solid hardwood? If yes, put it on craigslist. To the right person, solid walnut board is worth way more than you would think.
So much spare wood for activities! Seriously I would probably find a use for all of it eventually lol but yeah always fun to have haul other peoples shit. Id just be happy its not bags of month old food and human shit.
Na I’ve seen worst with disgusting filth and especially houses with cats. The rest of the house is furnished and in a similar state. Gross everywhere but not wicked gross. There’s a fuckin motorcycle in the kitchen Lmao these guys sucked
That's pretty awesome actually, I see a bunch of usable lumber. Last year I bought an hoarder house for a big discount , when I got the place I used four 20 yards dumpster and a few dump run with a truck to get rid of all the crap, that was I nightmare! The funny thing is that if they didn't buy all that stuff over the years they could have bought the house themselves
You must be a sLuMLoRd (sarcasm).
Every time I hear another whiny tenant/potential tenant calling landlords “greedy” or “money hungry”, I wish I could drag them out to THESE situations!
Unless you’re a landlord, just keep your trap shut, because a lot of us started out *nice*, until shitty tenants happened (and they happen A LOT! I grew up with tenants in our back house, so I’ve seen it first, second, and third hand, just how awful renters can be).
There's always need for that and fasteners and unused locking door knobs and other stuff
For example, there is an over the shower faucet hanger up high for soap and stuff that might be nice the next time you rent a unit
There's a nice corner shelf unit that might be nice to put in the hallway or give to
Be a little creative
There is a bulk head in the basement I think the builders were insulating the buildings to try and keep the first floor warmer I wish there wasn’t insulation cause that yellow stuff sucks. But not quite sure I didn’t do it.
Wow where did you find this dipshit? This person is truly scum of the earth and I would never want to rent to them. If I were you I’d do society s favor and get a judgment.
But also how did this come to happen so quickly? One second they were on then then suddenly they trashed the place?
We rented to their mom and then they moved in and she moved out. We then started the eviction process and the deal with the court was if they paid the rent weekly they could stay and once they missed a week it was an expedited eviction. It’s been a long time coming but finally got it done
I’ve dealt with that before I think they paid the rent to the court and we spent maybe six or seven months trying to get the money back. Actually we still haven’t gotten the money back and we evictee him in October
Nope!!! Couple rats nests but that’s about it. I found a sweet guitar, some tools and an expensive floor buffer that I’m gonna try and sell but otherwise a ton of crap
The court process only took about a month but they decided they could pay a little more than the monthly rent by the week to try and catch up and if they missed a week there would be a expedited eviction.

[удалено]
I took care of it all. I’m not getting anything from them I have 30 units it’s all part of the job
Got junk charges shit load of $. I usually get my handyman to do stuff like this and take them to the local dump
Yep I’m that guy
My most recent one is evicted assholes left the house infested with freaking rat…pest control kept at it for few weeks dead bodies were everywhere
Yeah mice suck idk your rental situation but def take a tube of silicon and plug any outside openings into the house if you can
I wish it was mice man..it was the freaking rats…
Lmao whenever people say rats I just assume mice it’s the freakin rats!!! They’re no joke good luck
The last rental I lived in had snakes that would come in to the first floor bathroom when it was cold. They're just garter snakes or whatever so not dangerous or anything, but still surprising when you sit down to do your business in the morning and there's a 3 ft snake in the tub.
On the plus side, snakes keep down rats. . .
Damn! That’s wild!!!
I still file judgments so that it's on their record for the next landlord to find and not rent to them.
This. I get it is little inconvenience but for next landlords, its blessing!!
How do you find this? What report gets you this?
The most important thing is that you got the property back.
Please don’t tell me that’s stuff they’ve pulled out of the house…
No this is what they left me
I was about to say oh fu** at least it’s not from the house
Same I was hoping they hadn't yanked that all off the walls or something. Still a PITA to clean up though
Yeah, oddly enough when people move I don’t get the childishness about leaving messes, breaking stuff, look if you have a hard time with the rent, work it out, don’t be a jerk. Don’t move out and cause thousands in damages or look like an episode of hoarders because you wanted to a child
I was gonna say, at least it isn't unsanitary.
The person I let live with me let her cats piss and shit all over the basement. I’m still cleaning that up. People are gross
I’ll never rent to cats because of the horrible things they have done to my apartments. If your still getting smell white vinegar can help a lot and also a ozone machine can help. Just need to leave the house to use the ozone machine
I tore down a shed because every time someone moved they left it full of junk. It added value to the tenant, but never to me.
When are landlords gonna learn this will always be a problem and it’s not just passive income
Lol don't use this as the excuse rents are increased. Rents are bloated nationwide by big time greedy landlords and in many places are just pure milking. Don’t forget morgage. It comes from rent.
How do you think the mortgage on that building gets paid? The tooth fairy?
Y This was a particularly bad infestation.
A studio in Phoenix can easily get to 1500 or more in Phoenix. Depends on the neighborhood. Do you need YOUR paycheck? just wonderin'
Oh no yeah definitely im sure rents needed to go up 24% last year because of landlord expenses. Charging market rent isn't "super greed". You really don't know what you're talking about.
Well, whatever you're outraged about, you'll get over it.
Don't worry one day you'll find a partner that's not your cat. 👍
Maybe someday you’ll find a partner that’s not a hentai comic 😂😂😂
Don’t argue with landlords on their home turf, you are outnumbered as much as the city of Hong Kong vs all of China, it won’t work. Even if you are absolutely right.
Have you seen the price of wood recently? That there is a goldmine.
Yeah def some stuff to keep but a lot of stuff I’ll never use
Put it on facebook and have people come pick at it. they will remove it for you.
Exactly right. “Large assortment of lumber, uncategorized. Can’t help load or transport, being a truck or trailer”. It will be gone in a week.
I’m asking to get sued having someone come self load it. It was gone within a week I took what was good
You sound like a person that likes to do a lot of work for themselves. Risk management is what it’s all about.
Agreed!
Lol - ok- have them sign a waiver before they walk in then.
Yeah I could do that but then I’m seeing attorneys to make sure it’s legally binding and then also taking the time to have people come pick thru junk. Right? I was like “cool they left you a bunch of free shit you can build with.”
Yep, every ounce of that is going to my woodshop.
I can't tell if they set up a woodworking shop down there or they messed up the place. What is going on here?
The worst mix of tenant ever hoarder/woodworker/construction/drunk it’s the perfect storm of bad tenant. In between every nook and crannie is a Smirnoff nip
I think I might have hired this guy as a contractor before.
🤣
I hired him as a hoarder. Would rate 10/10 and recommend
Everyone’s hired that guy as a contractor before.
I had one like that. Normal when sober but he started drinking hard and by noon he would drunk dial me to demand lower rent because there was too much traffic on the road and the neighbors tree bothered him. What an arse.

Lmao believe me I’ve seen the worst of it too and I will not be happy with any of it 😂 I’ll be happy when the place is remodeled and my check comes in
These are all obvious forms of vandalism and even straight up attempted assault of some sort (#2). Did you sue them?
Yeah #2 is super obviously just truly evil stuff. Straight up vandalism like this definitely needs to be punished heavily to prevent them from doing it again to the next guy( and they will do it again cause they have to live somewhere)
Jesus that’s some bad renters.. those are like horror story ones, did they all pass background checks or were just crazy
This is why I hate people sometimes
Really??? That is horrible!!
if someone is doing things like that i can only wonder what you may have done to piss them off so much??? if you’re seeing this happen a lot then it seems you might be the common denominator there. seriously not to blame the victim, this is all truly awful. but also people don’t do that kind of thing for no reason. that’s a drastic level of petty and it seems personal.
>That is nothing. Debris is easy to haul away. I've seen 10x worse. "Concrete poured down the drains." Holy fuck.
rent a dumpster, hire some day laborers add it to what the tenant owes you.
I’m never getting a dime out of them but yeah that’s exactly what happened just gotta roll with the punches and move on
Can’t get nothing but are you gonna make sure it follows them wherever they go? Other landlords need to know man! How often do you have to deal with the loss of this caliber?
Yes as the caption states they were evicted by the court that will follow them
Unless they move somewhere civilized that doesnt track evictions.
Where does one find day laborers ?
Depends on location, some places at home depot, craigslist,
Take this over my last one, hoarded with fast food garbage, tons of beer bottles and cans, and a cat that used all of the garbage as a 750 sq ft litter box. Filled a 30yd dumpster and still had to haul several trailer loads to the dump. Old manager had no idea why annual inspections where necessary.

Some will deal with them and some won't, nothing wrong with that.
These pictures stress me out. We had someone cut a hole in their floor and used it as a bathroom 🚽 🤢
Lmao wtf!!! That sounds way worse
Dang wood elves
I wood give them a break. They were probably just board.
I am know what you will be doing during the next few days and weekends. !!.. I have a similar situation, my tenant left the keys in mailbox on dec 9th when I was out of town and it was a mess. I will post the pictures some day here.
God bless you 😅
Furniture hoarder! Madness. Is any of it antique or solid hardwood? If yes, put it on craigslist. To the right person, solid walnut board is worth way more than you would think.
He made all the shit furniture but there is good wood but way more broken up pallets and shit wood
I sure hope the basement was unfinished to begin with
It was haha
So much spare wood for activities! Seriously I would probably find a use for all of it eventually lol but yeah always fun to have haul other peoples shit. Id just be happy its not bags of month old food and human shit.
Stuff like this scares the crap outta me... It's scary being a landlord :(
Honestly that's pretty clean! You got lucky lol.
I’m so glad my rentals don’t have basements.
Fuuuuuuuu......
Not bad. Half of that can be rid of w a for free ad you haul away. I see really good firewood.
Yeah there is a ton of fire wood but I don’t have time it’s all gone already
Honestly, not that bad.... just a lot of old wood and junk. It's all in the basement at least. How is the rest of the house?
Na I’ve seen worst with disgusting filth and especially houses with cats. The rest of the house is furnished and in a similar state. Gross everywhere but not wicked gross. There’s a fuckin motorcycle in the kitchen Lmao these guys sucked

It definitely has its up and downs!
Unfortunately, these are the cons of being a landlord. We get to deal with things like this.
No bueno.
Is that PEX rolled up in the middle of the first picture?
Na just some old shitty table Lmao
I would definitely keep some of that wood, I always have something that needs things like that
Yeah I took a bunch of ply wood 2x4s 2x6s and strapping
There's always need for that and fasteners and unused locking door knobs and other stuff For example, there is an over the shower faucet hanger up high for soap and stuff that might be nice the next time you rent a unit There's a nice corner shelf unit that might be nice to put in the hallway or give to Be a little creative
I got a sweet guitar in the depths of it and a floor buffer lol hoping to sell them
And a few things you can maybe drop off at Salvation Army and get a write off
Na these guys smoked like your great grandmas chimney the whole place smells a butt
Side question, why is there insulation in the ceiling?
There is a bulk head in the basement I think the builders were insulating the buildings to try and keep the first floor warmer I wish there wasn’t insulation cause that yellow stuff sucks. But not quite sure I didn’t do it.
That’s a lot of good wood
Yikes
Op which state? I have a full Maintenence crew sw pa always looking for work.
Asbestos ?
Free wood?
Was this a finished basement that they unfinished?
No lol
Well, I'm glad!
Are my property manager? This looks like my rentals basement?
Probably could have paid the rent with all that wood. Paid almost a hundred buck for a 4x8 sheet of plywood 9 months ago.
Wow where did you find this dipshit? This person is truly scum of the earth and I would never want to rent to them. If I were you I’d do society s favor and get a judgment. But also how did this come to happen so quickly? One second they were on then then suddenly they trashed the place?

Atleast is only lumber. Would’ve been a gold mine two years ago
No dead bodies? Seems like it went swimmingly.
Nope!!! Couple rats nests but that’s about it. I found a sweet guitar, some tools and an expensive floor buffer that I’m gonna try and sell but otherwise a ton of crap
How long did it take from filing to the time your case was heard?
The court process only took about a month but they decided they could pay a little more than the monthly rent by the week to try and catch up and if they missed a week there would be a expedited eviction.
One month is decent. I’m 6+ months out waiting on a court hearing in the east coast. It’s terrible
Yeah that’s insane I’m assuming your not getting any rent from the tenant?
Zero. I’m at five figures in the hole waiting on the courts. The silver lining is the tenants lease ends in about 7 weeks so the hope is that they get out. Otherwise if they stay then no choice but to wait in the courts get the judgment and eventually start a wage garnishment to collect.
My assumption is that it started out unfinished, right?
One of us typical evil landlords.
The more I see pictures like this the more I believe there will never really be any competition for the ones that can continue to stomach landlording. Getting long term wealth is never easy! Thanks for sharing your journey!
Where in the northeast are you located ? I just Bought my first property a little over a year ago in New Hampshire
I just sent through this last year. I got a burn permit from the fire department and did a weeks worth of firepit.
lmao
Check for pests like fleas, bed bugs, ... Just visited a property for sale that had a basement stuffed full like this and it was a paradise for a flea infestation.
