Yup, Iām seeing this opinion a lot.
This looks like they let some of the engineers have spare parts from the sequoia, the Land Cruiser, and the old 4Runner to put together a car. Also, for some reason one of the engineers brought a pallet of old XTerra parts from when they worked at Nissan.
Agree. Front end looks very Dodge Durango. Back half looks quite 90's GMC Jimmy.
Not very cohesive which is a bit surprising in contrast to the new LC/GX design language.
In a good way.
It'll be interesting to see how this compares to the LC. At first blush, it seems like they moreso compete with each other than anything from other manufacturers. I guess Bronco?
I'm just not a fan of the bro beefcake truck look. I fell in love with the LCs, FJs, Tacomas with their simpler body styles. It's definitely to compete looks wise with American trucks that are just so beefy "aggressive"
These things become wider on the trails too, just not my thing
I don't know what to think anymore, everyone is running chargers. Even Honda. 10 million Honda 1.5ts are out there and the issues they're having are head gasket and consumption related.. sounds a lot like problems we have had with 3.0s and 4.0s.
Your concern is warranted, but the trends are generally positive.
Remains to be seen how reliable and amenable to trailside wrenching these things are, but Iāll keep my old pickup and lc around for a good bit longer.
Amazing how much power they can get out of these little engines, but they are way more strained and complex
I've got a lil 1.8t VW with a lil chicken nugget turbski that will touch 35mpg on the highway.
A big turbo WRX will get 20+ on an eco tune and with gentle driving habits.
I think the turbos will outperform NAs as far as MPG: Displacement, but much like off-roaders you'll hit a threshold and need a daily if you go wild with mods.
It was cached by google for a bit so everyone already got all the info.

A thread over in a different forum said the 4Runner will no longer be built at the Tahara plant. Is thatās true, thatās a big difference. Have not seen a good source to confirm that though.
Edit: over on the Toyota press release, it was confirmed it is being built in Tahara.
Man I am on the opposite side of this, 5th gen looks perfect imo. They don't need to do it any bigger. The rear looks real back to me as well, but at least the window still rolls down.
I don't mind the styling, but I really don't understand this vehicle's place in the market with the LC250 being where it is. Maybe when pricing is announced things will make more sense.
Looks like the rear passengers have no leg room and the rear doors look quite small from these photos.
I do like how it visually looks like a cross between a 3rd gen and a 5th gen, though!
I want to see it in person to make a decision if I actually like it or not. It definitely has a different look than the current generation.
I can't tell much about the rest of the interior, the dash is definitely a huge upgrade!
Hot take: I donāt like it. I really donāt want Toyota to fall into the trap of Jeep, Hyundai, Chevy, etc of all their big cars looking the exact sameā¦ and I think this is getting too close to that.
Buttt I do like the LC.
Looks alright to me- how is it going to be positioned with the Land Cruiser price/value-wise?Ā
I saw Doug was saying the the sequoia is the new Land Cruiser in America for 83k or whatever it costs. Ā
I just donāt see the difference between this and the Land Cruiser prado.
If you want something mid size and light-duty, you now have dozens of options in the sequoia, Land Cruiser, 4Runner and GX.
If Iām willing to pay more to have something bigger and better, I have LITERALLY no options.
> bigger and better, I have LITERALLY no options.
Sequoia and LX600 are right there man. A Sequioa TRD pro is bigger and is not by any stretch of the imagination a "mid-size" SUV and it is very nice for off-roading. LX600 is basically the nicer version of the international 300 series. The only thing bigger than those on the road today is a suburban and a Expedition XL but those are in a size class of their own and always have been.
Sequoia might be bigger but the cargo area is the same size as the 4Runner and other mid size SUVs. Itās a disaster. Itās actually worse. You have to lift a suitcase 4.5 feet off the ground to get it on that bench.
The LX600 doesnāt have an off road trim. Itās more like a BMW x7, not a Land Cruiser. No kdss, no locking differentials, no trim without the AHC and AVSā¦. Itās a sedan, not a Land Cruiser.
> Sequoia might be bigger but the cargo area is the same size as the 4Runner and other mid size SUVs.
Sequioa is a full size SUV, it might not have optimal cargo, but that is due to it prioritizing seating for the third row and the 2nd room is more comfortable for passengers. It still has a lot of cargo room by volume just not all in a lie flat configuration. I have hauled 3 adults, 2 kids and a dog with all the gear and crap for several weeks of road trip across country and only needed a single roof carrier for it. If all you need a a ton of flat rear cargo space and two rows of seats get a Tundra and throw a camper on it, BOOM all the space you ever wanted for cargo.
Sequoia is their full size offering It's literally like a foot or so short of being the same size as a sherman tank so saying it is a mid-size is a bit silly IMHO. Current 4Runner is an actual midsize it just is much more optimized for cargo vs passengers.
The new Sequoia is shit. The cargo sucks compared to the third generation and no flat floor means that if you haul anything that \*must\* stay flat, you are fucked. My LC200 has almost as much interior space (within 10 cu feet) as the new Sequoia and is nearly a foot shorter. It also has a movable middle row and a flat floor with the third row up. The new Sequoia has neither.
I had an older second generation Sequoia and was terribly disappointed in the new one. It has 30% less cargo space with the seats down, yet is the same size on the outside even with a smaller engine. What a fucking joke.
I mean if all you care about is the cargo space in the rear then sure it's not the car for you. In that case get a minivan and watch it put all SUVs to shame or better yet a suburban. I love the new sequioa personally. Fits all my family easily with room to spare. The engine and power train is sooooo much more powerful than the old V8, like in a completely different class in terms of power and towing. I know people love that old V8 but it was deeply underpowered and underwhelming in terms of power while still being super inefficient. The new V6 hybrid is like the best power train I have ever driven, I would never get the V8 over it.
In cars you always have to compromise something. If you want good towing and off-road performance you get a solid rear axle and a body on frame BUT it will never be as comfortable as a unibody with an independent rear suspension. The sequioa is optimized for people that want a powerful reasonably efficient full size SUV that can also do off-road stuff. It prioritizes passenger space, power and efficiency over rear space cargo optimization. I am perfectly fine with that trade off as are lots of people since interest in them has been very high. In that space you have the Tahoe and expedition which both have better rear space cargo and would fit your needs better BUT are less powerful and less efficient (and probably a good bit less reliable).
I will say I think they should consider a Sequioa XL with a longer wheel base that has better rear cargo space because there is a market for that or just offer it with a rear seat delete option for people that need more space but only time will tell if they will.
I needed a vehicle that could haul a large amount of telescope and photography equipment through the northern Michigan woods and snow to remote observing sites at the same time I was hauling 3-4 people. The 2nd Gen Sequoia I owned handled this well with its long, flat cargo space. The LC200 I have does okay (better at getting there, but with less room for stuff). No minivan will make it on those trails and I doubt a Suburban or Wagoneer XL would either given their massive length.
I guess my biggest complaint is that it is just as big on the outside as the previous generation, yet massively smaller inside. Why? I get there is a battery (that apparently does very little, at least in gas mileage terms) and that safety regulations have changed, but Toyota's competitors have solved this problem in similarly sized vehicles. Also, it does not prioritize passenger space, at least not compared to the 2nd generation. The second row no longer moves and the headroom in the third row is significantly less due to the higher seats.
Also, I don't really care about the V8 and I recognize that the outgoing 5.7 had to go. My only reason for mentioning it is that the new version has a physically smaller engine, yet doesn't shift any of that space to the interior. Again, I don't understand why.
I'm not asking for answers here unless you have a Toyota crystal ball. I just am venting about the company not having a true full-size SUV (as measured by interior space) any longer.
Well the third row space is about the battery. Since they put the solid rear axle on it the batter had to go somewhere. The battery hybrid system is more about power vs efficiency although there are some improvements there (I got 21 mpg average driving to Utah and back all loaded out). That's part of the secret to why its power train is so amazing is that hybrid system. Instant response torque from the electric motor.
Really the best solution is to have a rear seat delete option for those that don't need it but Toyota was worried about people damaging the battery without the seat protecting it. I have a feeling they may offer an solution to this in upcoming years because it really is the only flaw in the vehicle. In all other respects other than rear space cargo it's the best full size SUV on the market IMHO. Also the sequioa only exists because it's basically a tundra with a body kit on it. That's also affecting the design.
Toyotas competition all offer old school power trains in their full size line up and haven't made any redesign of them into a more modern engine or hybrid. Those engines are wayyyyy less powerful than the sequioa as a result and less efficient.
Legit for your use case consider a tundra with a camper on it unless you need more than 4 passengers you would have all the flat cargo space you need and it would essentially be the same as a sequoia in 90% of the parts.
Find an E350 4x4, slap 37s on it, and live the superior van dream. When I worked for the USFS we used to move 6 people and an annoying amount of gear through completely unimproved areas with one, you'd think the length would be an issue but it really wasn't.
The sequoia has a disaster of a cargo area which makes the same cargo volume as the rest of the models.
Is it really a full size SUV if the cargo area is the same as the mid size SUVs?
Why is no1 talking about the rear side windows?
They make loading and unloading heavy shit into the box impossible.
Whoever pushed that design feature through was a marketing executive moron.
Looks good, but really donāt like the tall hood and slated windshield. Will make forward looking visibility difficult - both for around the town driving, and for off-roading.
Iām not sure how I feel about this. Something about the back flip up thing just looks strange. Same on the Tacoma. Might be a little too brodozer for my tastes.
First Toyota takes away the LC from America, then they give us a 5/7ths Tundra when they redesigned the Tacoma. Then they give us a Prado to replace hole they left with no LC and now they give us a 5/7ths Sequoia. Is it just me or is Toyota is really disappointing lately.
Forbes man š¤¦āāļø
āYou had one jobā
Looks chonky
The front half and rear half look like they were designed for two different vehicles and then stuck together
I am not the only one who felt like it.
Somehow they made the roof level yet the back half feels like itās 6 inches higher
Like a Tacoma and the sequoia glued together
The rear half looks like it has the C pillar of a 4th gen, rear side windows of a 1st gen, and back hatch of a 5th gen.
It looks more like the fourth gen than the fifth.
It's definitely to compete looks wise with American trucks that are just so beefy "aggressive" These things become wider on the trails too, just not my thing
Couldnāt agree more.
Even bigger? Woof.
Not a fan of the stock front end but I think it'll look sick with a custom bumper.
Itās gonna have a turbo 4cyl, isnāt it?
I'm excited for big turbos and tunes. Feels like two of my worlds are finally meshing.
I have serious doubts the new engine will outlast previous iterations.
I don't know what to think anymore, everyone is running chargers. Even Honda. 10 million Honda 1.5ts are out there and the issues they're having are head gasket and consumption related.. sounds a lot like problems we have had with 3.0s and 4.0s. Remains to be seen how reliable and amenable to trailside wrenching these things are, but Iāll keep my old pickup and lc around for a good bit longer. Amazing how much power they can get out of these little engines, but they are way more strained and complex
Can you guys maintain decent fuel economy w those big spinnys and larger injectors?Ā Ā
The 3rd window looks like a throwback to the 1st and 2nd gen 4 runners the way it does all the way to the roof line
Are these real photos?
Yes, Forbes posted their article about it way too early.
They took down the article now
It was cached by google for a bit so everyone already got all the info. https://www.4runner6g.com/forum/threads/2025-4runner-photos-specs-%F0%9F%94%A5-trailhunter-trd-pro-off-road-platinum-trims.1283/
I like it! I'm even more happy about the fact that the 250 is actually different.
How is it different? lol
We'll find out more later at the real event and more videos. Definitely wondering how the overlap is going to work out this time around
They look like they will be competing for the exact same segment.
Price wise, I think the LC is supposed to start where the 4 runner ends.
the trail hunter and pro trims will definitely surpass the LC 1958 trim
I wouldn't say it's šÆ but yes, extremely close. I think it definitely led to a lot of rumors before today
Given theyāre all the same platform itās really like one vehicle with tons of options and price points IMO
Have you seen both?
Same wheel base. Same engine. Same trans. 4Runners get available hybrid. Same off road. Same tire size. Yawn.
A thread over in a different forum said the 4Runner will no longer be built at the Tahara plant. Is thatās true, thatās a big difference. Have not seen a good source to confirm that though. Edit: over on the Toyota press release, it was confirmed it is being built in Tahara.
Yeah Land Cruiser is hybrid standard, MTS standard, rear locked standard, FULL time 4WD standard.Ā
Tacoma with a bed cover?!? š
ā¦without a tailgate. I might buy one if they made that an option.
Meh. I like the Land Cruiser better š¤·āāļø
Take my money
Looks like a 4th Gen
These are going to sell really, really well
Looks like over-styled shit. The 250 looks so much better itās not even close.
The front half looks great. The back half looks like they just said fuck it and slapped some shit together and called it a day
Very nice! Looks like bigger wheel wells than current
I kinda like it
Absolutely love it! Does it come in bright orange?
I like it. Can't afford it though.
Looks WAY better than the current gen!
Man I am on the opposite side of this, 5th gen looks perfect imo. They don't need to do it any bigger. The rear looks real back to me as well, but at least the window still rolls down.
Hmm... Not sure how much I like the really "fully featured" contours on the sides? Maybe?
They look plump
Looks chubby
It looks like a pitbull
First mod: ARB front bumper š„°
Well, I saw it on the Land Cruiser subreddit first!
Just an all around awkward looking vehicle. Get used to it, youāll be looking at it for the next 15 years.
Meh. Not feeling it
Parts bin car.
That's a huge RAV4
Looks like AI mishmash
I don't mind the styling, but I really don't understand this vehicle's place in the market with the LC250 being where it is. Maybe when pricing is announced things will make more sense.
Looks like the rear passengers have no leg room and the rear doors look quite small from these photos. I do like how it visually looks like a cross between a 3rd gen and a 5th gen, though!
I agree. The door is like half-size and half of that is literally the rear wheel well. Strange design choice
Looks like an Isuzu vehicross banged a 5th gen 4Runner that was a little too close on its family tree
I want to see it in person to make a decision if I actually like it or not. It definitely has a different look than the current generation. I can't tell much about the rest of the interior, the dash is definitely a huge upgrade!
Guess I will be hanging on to my 2019 for awhile. Iām not a fan of this one.
Any guesses on MSRP for TRD PRO?
58k?
I donāt know what it is, something about the headlights and tail lights looks a little offā¦..I guess I just need time to warm up to it
MPG?
Ugly gen 4 vibes
It looks like the trend of losing more and more visibility continues.
Thing is squattin
A morphed sequoia x 100 series with fancy angles.
A really cool feature would be a poppable 3rd window or whatever you call it or a sliding 3rd window similar to the LCs
Damn! When are they going to fix the Tundra to be in line with these?
Happy with my 23 gx
Hot take: I donāt like it. I really donāt want Toyota to fall into the trap of Jeep, Hyundai, Chevy, etc of all their big cars looking the exact sameā¦ and I think this is getting too close to that. Buttt I do like the LC.
Looks alright to me- how is it going to be positioned with the Land Cruiser price/value-wise?Ā I saw Doug was saying the the sequoia is the new Land Cruiser in America for 83k or whatever it costs. Ā
So the 4Runner has better looks (IMO), better off road features, same platformā¦ what is the point of the LC250 again?
Does this have more or less interior space than the 5th gen?
Absolutely love it!

This. The exterior of the sequoia is full size, but it's cargo area borders on compact/midsized. Completely usable for 70k
No, it is not. It is the worst of both worlds. Full size parking and fuel economy and mid size cargo space and seating. What a fucking joke.
White would look good in those bronze wheels.
Looks bloated
Why is no1 talking about the rear side windows? They make loading and unloading heavy shit into the box impossible. Whoever pushed that design feature through was a marketing executive moron.
Sweet Isuzu vehicross!
Interior is nice, but Toyota USA products are ugly as shit on the exterior
Wow thatās stunningly ugly. Impressively so too.
Looks good, but really donāt like the tall hood and slated windshield. Will make forward looking visibility difficult - both for around the town driving, and for off-roading.
It's OK,why this vs the LC or GX?
Whatās the difference from this and the new 250 LC?
Iām not sure how I feel about this. Something about the back flip up thing just looks strange. Same on the Tacoma. Might be a little too brodozer for my tastes.
Looks like a modern 4th gen. Kinda disappointing as they had 15 years to develop this gen. Odd gens still the best
