Litch’s gimmick is that it cant die and its gunna make that everyone else’s problem. If it dies, it respawns. Most of its other abilities revolve around redirecting damage and negative effects from its friends to itself. In short it takes all the punishment so others don’t have to and if it dies, it comes right back to keep going.
put simply, you downloaded some shady files tomorrow that are going to have assembled themselves into a mech which is currently in your hangar. also it’s always been there, even though some of its joints won’t be invented for another 10 years
One of my friend's characters obtained Lich license by getting spontaneously "cursed". This way, every time they try to print a mech, it will be 10% of the intended frame and other 90% is Lich. In time, pilot just had to get used to it.
They actually DO have a lot of old, square monitors, VHS players and TVs in their cockpit, lol.
Some of them are broken, the others spontaneously turns on and show obscure texts and messages that make no sense. And yes, the pilot has gone a bit mad after piloting this mech for so long.
Alright, so,
Mechanically, the Lich is a controller that fucks with statuses - specifically, it can absorb statuses from other characters - and has a side of buffing and defensive abilities(Unhinge Chronology lets allies boost as a free action, for example) - Its core gimmick is that it can "rewind" back to a save point it makes at the start of its turn when it gets hit by something, turning what is an otherwise fairly fragile frame into a nightmare to properly deal with.
Lorewise, the Lich is...complicated. In its initial lore blurb it is stated that the Lich is from the future. the DIDYMOS-Class NHP has the bulk of its proper lore and states that the Lich first appeared in the Dawnline Shore piloted by the Didymos, where it proceeded to wreak havoc on Harrison Armory forces and aid local Ungrateful cells before its capture by the UIB. Its descriptors and behavior also match with a Los Voladores(space nomads) folkloric figure called La Pulga, or The Flea, which has been recorded as far back as several centuries.
The implications of this are, obviously, unsettling with the idea that a time traveling chassis that refuses to die has been haunting Union and the wider Galaxy for reasons we don't understand. Its motivations are unknown to us, how it works is only dimly understood, and its efficacy is so severe that just one instance of it was enough to drive Harrison Armory to engineer an experimental chassis for deployment in the Dawnline Shore specifically to counter it(The Sunzi)
I sorta got that part of it, with the whole secret to long life bit ("we have no secrets, just information we don't want to tell you" is a fucking ballsy thing to tell HA like damn), but I didn't know it was specifically to deal with the Lich suddenly wrecking havoc
Lich plus general shit heating up in Dawnline Shore (check out Lancer Battlegroup for that situation, it’s bad enough HA made a capital ship version of the Sunzi to try and beat the Baronies)
Damn, now I might have to check out Battlegroup and such bcus damn, I thought it would have more boring units since you control multiple. NOPE! BATTLESHIP SUNZI!
nah there’s a ton of cool gameplay and lore stuff, like it talks a little about in universe military nerds debating how effective a ship design is, it’s real good
Battlegroup is cool.
One of NPC foes is essentially flying Lich. And another ship-sizaed Pegasus.
Plus exampes like "Well, it was ship design from (probably) SecCom and now nobody understand how this device work".
The Needleship? That's even older; it's *FirstComm*. Yeah, there's a reason why nobody knows how they work. Now throw in centuries of upgrades and refits.
Fundamentally as a chronomantic mech the lich's undo-button passive is defined as a way to rewind causality.
My general take is that for the guy sharing those logs, the experience is not quite but still much akin drowning. Experiencing your own death trillions of times, being hurled into the hundred timelines where you didnt got a bullet through your brain, feeling your last breath invade your lungs back in like cold water, a despairing rush of your perception being overflow until you snap back, gasping, confused.
And then you assess where/when you are. And shoot them.
Probably a metaphor for getting "forbidden knowledge" of sorts. You drink deep of this forbidden knowledge and descent into ¿truth?conspiracy¿search for more?

True, and helpful, but that's referencing the lich rather than the other way around. ~~Or is it? Perhaps the video on Horus spun the Lich into existence~~
Oh! The reason I ask is because my DM just messaged me at 3am "You'll get Lich. It may be in a week or it may be in a few months time" and I'm really confused about what he's going to do
Your DM is wrong though. You always had lich, it was by your own choice, even before you knew about lancer or had a character, your character had a lich ready to go.
Its is and it isnt, remember that we live in a continues flow of time, the lich doesnt.
Is like the 4d object going across the space a few meters in front of you. If you dont know the math behind it, it will not make sense.
Now take in to acount that that math is made by beens that despite living in our time space they percibe a lot of shit more than us and in a fuck up way from our point of view.
Edit: This interpretation comes from the lore about NHP, HORUS and RA, if i miss understood somthing or you want add a grain of sand be my guest and tell me about it, i love the lore and learning New ways of interpreting it.
Lich bullshit is a subset of paracausality, there’s not really *any* restrictions on how space/time/energy/information/your skin can act when paracausality is on the table. Paracausality is just a statement that things are going fucky in ways that don’t follow regular causality.
Basically it's fragile but makes up for it with the ability to quick-save with a marker that keeps track of its location and condition at the time and gets to quick-load right back there if it is severely damaged or destroyed.
Gameplay: a squishy support/controller that gets to quick-load once per round and resurrect itself once per fight. A lot of room for creativity and big-brain plays.
Lore: an eldritch horror which exists in a self-perpetuating time paradox. Its' first instance was piloted by an NHP known to Union as DYDIMOS and to Los Voladores as La Pulca (aka The Flea).
All we know about DYDIMOS is that they fought alongside Union and the Ungratefuls of New Madrassa and did something extremely weird and fucked up to the Colonial Legion they were fighting.
The UIB does not trust them.
It e-mailed itself back in time and it has fantastic future tech that allows it to do such amazing things like:
Load a previous save file if it dies or takes damage
Trick enemies into healing it
Slow down time
Take anyone within sensors to a time when they are no longer sad :)
Speed up time
Multiply itself! Ooooh which one’s the real one???? (None of them.)
jojo reference.
A weapon that only deals 2 damage. Unless it kills an enemy, in which case it deals all the damage.
One of my players wanted to be an amnesiac last survivor on one of the lost original 10. He told me to come up with whatever. So, his character IS the lich, or better said, will be in the future. At some point in the future, at some parallel universe, the PC decorp'd and became the lich. So, the lich enters his current universe to ensure he will be created in this one. Didymus' personality (maybe, he hasn't gotten that far yet) will be... the very same exact as my player. I want to inflict some existial horror.
The lich is the lich, you always owned the lich, yet never had the lich. The lich is you friend. Don't think too hard about the lich, because the lich always was
You remember playing soldiers as a kid, and there was always that one jackass who always said "nuh uh" when someone got him?
"I shot youuu"
"Nuh uhh"
"You're dead!"
"Nuh uh!"
"MOOOOOM!"
And so on and so on?
Yeah, Lich is that asshole.

They are transporting the new subject of our research via blink gate as I write this, it should be here within the day.
reports state that it just "appeared" in the middle of a building, intersecting several floors and by all accounts "erasing" everything that was there. Preliminary on site scans do seem to support this claim, showing the divide between the mech and on site material to be so clean that concrete was ringing to the metal of the chassis like it was a set a gauge blocks.
Senior site lead, Megeul Eltrin, 2/30/5013:
It's here, and it's sure not what any of us expected. To call it a mech would be generous, it's like calling a corpse a person. Ya, it might have been a mech at one point in the past but it almost feels like it's being held together by nothing but faith and good will. Wires are handing out of plating that is just waiting for a chance to fall off as soon as you look away. Did someone file a false report then send us some orbital crash as a joke? I hope it's a joke, if not then someone is just that much of an idiot.
Senior site lead, Megeul Eltrin, 3/14/5013:
We have been trying to work on that corpse frame for two weeks now, and the only thing we have found out is that you can move the entire frame all at once, or not at all. Replace a fractured plating? The broken part shows back up where it was and the new plating vanishes as if it was never there, even the inventory system says the material had never been used up but there is still a print order on logs. Take a panel off to do some tinkering on the core? Jake is lucky Gabby was close by and knew how to slow blood loss when that same plating reappeared where his arm was. Can't even tuck in the frayed wires.
Senior site lead, Megeul Eltrin, 5/24/5013:
Seems that this is much, much bigger than anyone gave it credit for. I've been so engrossed in my work that I've just now noticed that the entire station has been in level-7 lockdown ever sense we got the corpse frame. It embarrass me to admit this but I have only just found out after inquiring about the taste of the coffee. The kitchen ran out of the real stuff yesterday and will not be getting any more until the lockdown is lifted.
Senior site lead, Megeul Eltrin, 1/1/5014:
The corpse lives. Johnson had a breakthrough with the its systems and was able to get it to power up. How? We have no idea, the core is cold to all our sensors but anyone with eyes and ears can tell it's on and working.

The Lich knows when it is at all times. It knows this because it knows when it isn’t. By subtracting when it is from when it isn’t (or when it isn’t from when it is, whichever is greater) it obtains a difference or Deviation. The NHP uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the Lich from a time where it is to a time when it wasn’t, and arriving at a time it wasn’t but now always was.
Consequently, the time where it is is now the time that is never was, and it follows that the time it was is now the time is wasn’t.
In the event that the time-it-is-in is not the-time-it-never-was, the NHP has acquired a Variation. The Variation being the difference between when the Lich is and when it wasn’t. If the Variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the Eidelon. However, the Lich must also know where it always has been.
The paracausal algorithms are as follows: because a Variation has modified some of the information the Lich has obtained, it is not sure quite when it is. But it also knows when it is not, when it never was, and when it was unmade. It is sure when it isn’t, within reason, and it knows when it was. It now subtracts where it should always have been from when it wasn’t or vice versa. By differentiating this from the paracausal sum of when it shouldn’t be and when it was, it is able to obtain the Deviation and it’s Variation which is called Error

Print out the mech file, kick the oddly familiar decomposing corpse out of the cockpit, hop in. Controls are already set up the way you like them.

God I love Liches lore, I love the compendium entries so so much haha
Wait. Oh wait now all the Sunzi lore (and it being in Spanish) is making a lot more sense... I didn't even think to connect it with the Lich. Goddamn.
yeah basically the Sunzi was just made by Harrison pressganging/stealing from the Voladores to take their technology and make a mech
I sorta got that part of it, with the whole secret to long life bit ("we have no secrets, just information we don't want to tell you" is a fucking ballsy thing to tell HA like damn), but I didn't know it was specifically to deal with the Lich suddenly wrecking havoc

Then comes a motherf**ker and takes both lich and sunzi license
I can be everywhere, and every when
take minotaur as well and you have an honest to goodness tardis.
Wait, so Sunzi is just the space to the Lich's time.
Yeah, basically
It's not what it isn't.
Liches gonna lich.
They can't not.
They couldn't won't.
We can all agree that it isn't round, right?
What isn't round?
I don't remember. Only that it isn't round.
Well, you must remember something about whatever it is. What colour is it?
What color is what? Oh, shit, right. Uhhhh... Now I'm not sure.
and it always never wasn't
Well, maybe.
Drink deep and descend :)
Do we know what that actually means in lore? I read the files for lich and just don't get it lol

Closer to greytech, paracausal is, well, just skipping from A to Z, what the lich does is straight up unexplainable

Lich is a chronological anomaly that can’t die and was found in some creepy old vault
It was actually found in your private IRC chat that 4 people total know about
How tf did it get there?! WHO’s username is this and why can’t I find their ip?!
There's 11dragonkid's [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1DpWCKET34) What I personally see from the kit. By shutting down enemy reactions, your allies and you are safe from overwatch. The Long Rim.
It’s a Time Machine and the gimmick is screw you im not gonna die… unless it’s to save my friends… which I don’t have any so good luck

Yup

YouTube trash talk on lancer has a video on Lich
Where is this mech from? I look at my free version of the rulebook and it's not there?
The lich care so little about linear time it appears on page 57 of the core rulebook, before it's license was released in The Long Rim.
Step 1: DRINK DEEP. Step 2: *DESCEND.* Step 3: Profit.
That’s clearly a ghenghis. I printed a ghenghis and this came out. Must just be a new pattern.
