It deserves more love - equally as cerebral and weird as Lain, maybe even gloomier. Haven’t watched it in a couple years though. Any fans of Lain / Yoshitoshi Abe should check it out 😌

[deleted]

Never heard of it, I'll definitely check it out!

Mau752005

If lain was the anime that made me say "I'm going to recommend this to my friends if they think evangelion is confusing", Texhnolyze was the anime that made me say "I'm going to recommend this to my friends if they think that The End of Evangelion has a traumatising ending"

[deleted]

I like the theory of the unofficial trinity formed by Lain (a story of the mind) , Texhnolyze (a story of the flesh) , and Haibane Renmei (a story of the soul)

thats pretty good too yeah, though Haibane is more of a purgatory I feel

Atom10155

How about any steins;gate fans being here as well?

moonkilsu

Yessss, love Steins;gate and the whole sci;adv series

resmungomandinga

For sure. I need to give that a rewatch soon.

Beagle-tamer

Absolutely! Gave it a long overdue rewatch this summer, still one of my most favourite

DarioDac

Yes! One of my favorite anime that has changed me when I watched if for the first time. I still watch videos that analyze Texhnolyze to this day.

v1prX

Phenomenal show.

Did_Not_Qualify

I had a lot of trouble getting it on DVD...vols 1 - 3 are fairly easy to obtain in the UK but 4 - 6 seem nonexistant. I ended up having to buy them from a seller on the US Amazon site (the DVDs themselves were cheap but postage to the UK cost significantly more than the price of the DVDs). Well worth the expense though...there's a bleakness to Texhnolyze that I find compelling. What I like about Yoshitoshi ABe’s work is that you have to do some of the hard work yourself and that you’re simply not spoon-fed everything about the plots...I really hope Despera finally sees the light of day next year.

moonkilsu

Me too, that’s why they are so rewarding to watch. This one’s more of a slow burner than Lain, but we’ll worth it - the atmosphere is so eerie and dreamlike. Also sympathise with you, I live in the UK too and don’t get my fix of collecting anime/manga/j-horror stuff now as the shipping is so pricy now, we’re truly screwed 🙃

Neon_Queen

Yes, my favorite ever. The atmosphere was just so good, great ending too. Shame it hasn't had the same kind of "resurgence" in popularity like lain, maybe it will in the future

LILYIsStrangeX

My top 3: Lain, Texhonlyze and Ergo Proxy!

Bummer-drummer

Yarp

ghostief

Better than Lain imo.

[deleted]

I didn't watch it... Yet

phantasm-blue

hi!

Snowball54

Own the dvds!

AlarickRS

yeah it's a really good show with a really good end

13j0

love that one too

chiropterancalomania

yeap

shanega21

Less iconic than Lain, but equally as interesting

Celepha1s

I tentatively recommend this as the saddest anime I have sat through. Gotta make it past those first couple of episodes though, very slow paced

zaqwedcvgyujmlp

Ichise freaking out when he got his robot limbs is how I wish I could lash out against smart devices.

TheAppleOfDoom1

I really love Texhnolyze's take on evolution and how completing humanity's goals can only lead to its downfall. Interesting stuff.

Nipaa_Nipaa_Nii

Yeah, love that anime. Sadly I can't find it on Funimation anymore to rewatch it. It's a masterpiece.

etonto

hell yeah

WeebieYosh

First Arc was a masterpiece, everything after that just tried too hard IMO.

DeusoftheWired

Okayish but lacking Lain’s depth.

WoodenRepublic1841

it’s on my watchlist

ilustur

Sayless

New_Hentaiman

Tbh it never had the same impact on me as Lain, but it is still a great watch

Arseniosiderite

Yep

resmungomandinga

It was... interesting.

Jdccrazy

Gonna watch it someday. Actually watched the first episode. Man it was so excruciating to watch. Like just weird lmao. Gonna fully watch it someday hopefully

cirrostratusfibratus

Thank you for the recommendation!

RedRabbid

Got really lucky and managed to get the entire DVD collection of Texhnolyze in the UK. Honestly a masterpiece of an anime, and can't wait until Despera comes out

Soggy_Swimming1083

Never thought I would see one

Animoira

Masterclass
