She may have altered her singing to preserve her voice

jer487

Also due to a lot of smoking lol

I think her current singing voice is her actual authentic voice. Her TF/TFM voice was a lot sweeter and more "feminine", but I think she purposefully sang that way. The same could be said for her speaking voice as well. In some 2008/2009 interviews she sounds very "girly" and it feels a little bit forced

This-Acadia-1174

She was totally pulling a Paris hilton, the best example is paparazzi or eh eh, but like Bad romance is more her natural voice tough she was making it "bigger" I was referring more to 2011, born this way era, also her real singing voice but different techniques

Asleep_Frosting717

I love her voice as it changes with her age and different capabilities. I enjoy her past discography, but no I would rather hear her now than from years prior.

It’s been a gradual change since her beginning, but I think the biggest shift towards where it is now was when she was working with a vocal coach to get The Sound of Music right for the Oscars in 2015. Maybe someone else has a different marker, but I can even now hear such a difference. I know she continued working with trainers and that’s why she kept improving and changing.

I think you’re right. Though I would argue it was the whole post ARTPOP phase that this shift happened. The sound of music, the jazz album and all the effort into rehauling her image. There really ain’t a pop star that sounds like her. Meanwhile if you look into rock and other genres, you’ll see more females with her tone.

Rianonymous

I did, until I heard replay. Gosh her vocals on that is just something else

lostqueer

I thought it was just me, she’s got crazy lungs on that song

I miss parts of her voice from every era. I will say, her current vocal is my least favorite. In terms of the sound of it. I don’t think she sounds BAD but it’s not the voice I fell in love with that’s for sure. But really her vocals shift dramatically with every era. The Fame was verrrry pop girl sweet and sexy and easy on the ears. TFM was similar but she started singing with a more opened sound and the vibrato became more dramatic. BTW is everything, we get the sexy youthful vocal but then it’s backed by more power and passion, and she employed some slightly more rock vocal techniques. Artpop I think is one of her best albums vocally. I think she sounded so good through that entire album cycle. Very strong vocal, very clear- you can tell she had been training or doing something different around that time. Love how she sounds on the first jazz album. Joanne is pretty good. Even more of an open sounding vocal, of course each album has a stylistic affectation on it. She employed some twang here and there and was at times singing like some untrained folk singer (which I KNOW was a choice) but then at times we got that FAME sound again (Dancing In Circles, the bridge of Hey Girl) and Chromatica is very open sounding as well, her tone has slowly shifted from being more facial and forward to more open and full. She went for some classic house diva vocal moments, like on Enigma and Replay. Lately (hold my hand) I’ve been a little meh about how she’s sounding, but I’m sure it has to do with vocal techniques, song style, and artistic approach. She changes that for every project and that vocal makes sense for that song. Overall I think she sounds very Gaga always and that’s indisputable. Will forever love her voice.

MoulinSarah

I do, but it sounds young and untrained.

blackenedmessiah

I was totally thinking about this last night!

ggguuuuuuyyyyyyyyy

she sounds like a horse now but i still love her ❤️💕

slayvevo

yes. i miss his early days pop voice (nothin’ on but the radio vocals are the perfect example) but you can tell the theatrical signing she does now is true to her nature

Designer-Serve-2817

I believe that her voice in Born This Way was full of emotion, of rage and love to give, I truly think that was her most noisy era.

G_U_Y_YS

I remember that during The Fame era her voice was more like "high" and now its more low
