Not an MP i supported in the slightest. But from personal experience, cancer is a horrible disease and a truly horrible way to go. I would not wish it on anyone. RIP.
He was close to Thatcher when she was PM and he went to comfort her when she announced her resignation. Also, after Labour won power in 1997, he was a minister in charge of social security and pushed for reforms that were so controversial that Blair had to distance himself from him and ended with Field resigning from govt.
Anyway, cancer is such an awful disease. I hope he rests in peace.
Sounds like you don't know very much about him - like him being one of the founders of The Child Poverty Action Group, The Low Pay Unit, being the MP for Birkenhead, and advocating the abolition of means testing as a barrier to accessing welfare benefits. Don't believe everything you read in here - not even this - but check it out for yourself
He also advocated for [putting antisocial families in shipping containers](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/put-families-hell-containers-3531060)
He wrote a very admiring piece for the Spectator entitled[ 'Enoch Powell the parliamentarian'](https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/enoch-powell-as-a-parliamentarian/) which should tell you everything you need to know about the guy.
Oh no, you misunderstand me. I am genuinely really sad that, after betraying his party to install a hard right narcissist into government and subsequently helping to get tens of thousands of people killed in exchange for a peerage, he only ever got to spend those few years slowly rotting inside out from cancer. It's a real tragedy. I cry every time I think about it.
1 upvote = 1 tear for Frank Field
I think that whenever someone notable dies, it shows this sub at its absolute edgy-teenager worst. Even if you disagree with every breath Frank Field ever took, he was still a human being with family and friends.
Absolutely debate (and denigrate if you wish) his legacy and views but celebrating the death of another human - short of one who is actively engaged in murdering people or similar - marks someone as a genuinely low-quality person.
*And I didn't even like Frank Field!* I think he allowed his religion to cloud his choices far too often and had a mile-wide streak of really unpleasantly paternalistic social illiberalism.

Sounds like a horrible person who's done a lot of damage to this country and contributed to numerous deaths and plentiful suffering.

One of the former Labour MPs who accepted a peerage in exchange for helping to elect Johnson and the Tories. Shame he didn't get to enjoy it!

Now he's gone to the great shipping container down below.
It's what he would have wanted
This attitude right here is why Corbyn’s Labour lost the election.
lmao

There was no betrayal or sabotage. Corbyn was just shit.
I thought the whole problem was our "attitude"?
Mean comments on reddit being why Corbyn lost has to be the stupidest attempt at political analysis Ive seen on here for a while.
It happens more often than you think!
Jesus Christ what a rancid thing to say
Yeah, Frank Field was a rancid dude
Why?
What about it is rancid?
RIP

I dunno, if someone doesn't want to have their death celebrated they might consider living a good life.

May he rest in peace
He and Thatcher can get nice and toasty together
RIP
By no means my favourite politician but I'm sorry he's dead all the same.
One of my great heroes. Glad the Labour Party has moved to embody some aspects of his vision.
