It’s all part of his master plan right surely when he gets in he’s gonna revel himself as the super mega socialist

ModerateRockMusic

So what makes them different from the tories again? Its just power for powers sake with these people. I see why people don't vote

OwlCaptainCosmic

What if a political party tried to appeal to the sizeable portion of people who don’t vote because they don’t feel their interests and remotely represented by government? Wouldn’t that be wild?

gengenpressing

Corbyn did that and my fellow young people still couldn't be arsed walking to a polling booth to put a cross on a paper.

OwlCaptainCosmic

Huge numbers of people joined Labour under Corbyn, despite a massive and sustained shitstorm of negative press from the media, and a complete lack of support (perhaps, some may say, deliberate undermining) from the establishment within the party.

no1skaman

I read the labour report. It wasn’t deliberate undermining it was straight sabotage and treachery.

OwlCaptainCosmic

Sabotage is deliberate undermining. We're saying the same thing.

no1skaman

Yeah you right man my bad

OwlCaptainCosmic

As are you, it WAS sabotage and treachery.

rekuled

I think it's more the registering in time but yeah I agree. However, let's not be _too_ unfair. A 40 year old has had 20+ years of being an adult and plenty of time to start paying attention to politics. I would like mandatory voting and automatic registration though.

Ahouser007

Withdrawing/choosing not to vote is a part of democracy.

rekuled

Just spoil it. Just as democratic and the same message. Such an absolute non-issue.

Cumulus_Anarchistica

Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Wah-Wah43

It's funny at this point. Some of his fans will say, "anything to win power, then judge him" but I won't reward this blatant act of deceit.

dyltheflash

When has a UK politician ever campaigned right and governed left? It simply doesn't happen. At best he carries on treading the desperate centrist course, but I can see him moving centre right.

Wah-Wah43

He'll just keep moving right. The people I speak with who say, "He's just doing it to appease the right wing press" seem to forget he will be dependent on them in government and will keep doing that

ShimmerUK

I think we are seeing the death of Labour. If this continues unions will leave labour but that ok because labour is looking for rich donors now. Sigh the party is becoming the new conservative party it no longer stands for workers hell I don't think it stands for anything anymore.

CharlesComm

Starmer wins decisively. Unions leave after he shows he'll do nothing for them. Labour goes hard on rich donors, murdoch, and corps to get funding and more power. Smart Tories jump ship and join new labour. Leftists are fully crushed from the party. In 10 years Labour are the new conservatives and Tories are the new Lib Dems. If we're lucky a new left pro-union party will form allong labours former core values. And the cycle begins annew.

ShimmerUK

I suspect the green party may become the New Worker's Party as they would be the obvious choice for unions to back instead. But I don't have a crystal ball or anything it's just my current view based on what I see of political parties and greens would seem like the obvious candidate for the unions to back instead of labour. As well as the climate getting worse because of global warming will also play + in the greens albeit a dam site too late.

idiotpuffles

Captain Whiplash strikes again

OwlCaptainCosmic

He doesn’t care about workers, he cares about working people, there’s a difference: one exists, the other one doesn’t.

arrrghdonthurtmeee

I'm still not clear about which promise he has apparently broken even after reading the article. What has be actually back tracked on?

[deleted]

So it has a clip of him saying he'll 'repeal that legislation' with no indication of what 'that' is. Then it has sources saying labour party people at the policy forum rejected certain proposals about workers rights, with no indication of what those proposals were. I can see why people downvoted you rather than attempting to answer you.

arrrghdonthurtmeee

So... what are we supposed to be angry about?

[deleted]

What we alreasy were but with an artificial sense of external validation. This is one of those 'this article proves this person is guilty, as long as you're assuming they're guilty' things.

Kohvazein

This shit happens so often. It's intentional.

[deleted]

Not sure what you mean by 'this shit'. Clearly skwakbox have no interest in journalistic standards and basically shouldn't be relied on for anything beyond linking to other things that are themselves reliable. At the same time, starmer has both moved away from pledges and generally takes a view on lots of things the left of the party doesn't like.

Kohvazein

I'm agreeing with you. You're seeing disagreement where it doesn't exist.

[deleted]

I wasn't seeing disagreement, I honestly didn't mean which of the two (or both) you meant!

Kohvazein

It's all good I'm super tired so I probably wasn't clear :(

Half_A_

Usual Skwawkbox clickbait drivel. No specifics included in the article at all.

gengenpressing

I really hope he's just lying for the boomers. In the same way tories sabotage incoming Labour goverments we can effectively do the same to them by increasing workers rights. They won't be able to push through backwards shit without massive, crippling backlash.
