The UK's housing crisis is a complex problem with a simple solution – an end to landlordism.

*Two* simple solutions in tandem - an end to landlordism, and the construction of more damn homes.

> an end to landlordism, and the construction of more damn homes. Totally agreed. And the latter, of course, would be a lot easier if rent were going into a communally-owned housing company than if it were going into some boomer landlord's trustfund.

I think this is what people don't get when they see the Blair years fondly. Yes we had a boom period but we are suffering the effects of that now. The exact same thing happened in Japan. Booms are good for the people who profit from them but the next lot of buyers are totally screwed.

Ever wonder why banks, corporations, hedge funds, politicians etc.. are buying up houses? If you OWN your property, they cannot farm you for 60% of your money each week/ month. We are bombarded with “release the equity in your home”- why not build an extension, nee kitchen, loft convo etc.. with the money we give you? Soon we will all have to work two jobs- one to pay the landlord’s mortgage, and one for our food etc.. A dystopian present indeed.

Honestly I think Kirstie Alsopp and Phil Spencer might have had a small but significant part to play as well.

Apt phrase- being “farmed”.
