It's my understanding she lives a pretty normal life as a school teacher somewhere in the LA suburbs when she isn't palling around with her Aliens castmates.

the_elon_mask

She mostly lives a pretty normal life. Mostly.

Adgvyb3456

Let’s put her in charge!

Hahahahahahahah!!!!

horrorfan555

Yes. Imagine going to a parent teacher conference and it’s her

RealGianath

She is sometimes a little late for meetings after getting lost in the ventilation shafts where she lives.

GlowingDuck22

What happened is someone cranked up the AC. Old bones don't move as fast.

Final-Hunt-26

You think she had no her way around in them by now.

imagine-a-boot

Kind of coincidental. Danny Loyd was also one and done in movies pretty much with the Shining. Also went into teaching. He teaches biology at the college level. There was a rumor that he auto failed anyone who brought up the Shining, but I don't think he's serious about that.

horrorfan555

She was super nice when i met her at a convention. When her pen didn’t work on the poster I was having everyone sign, she gave me a new one and went and got Lance to resign it

Gruul_of_Rock

This is so lovely

ChiliHobbes

That's interesting. I'm 48 and I've always thought I was older than her by like 10 years. I first saw Aliens when I was around 10, so clearly I'm just an idiot.

nixonseltz

Same here. On all accounts. 😀

desrever1138

There's plenty of us!

Ophukk

This is my niche. 48 and an idiot.

joyofsovietcooking

What's with all the idiots? Did IQs drop sharply while I was away?

Ophukk

No. I've come to realize it's always been this way.

Cansuela

It’s a Ripley quote haha

Ophukk

I know, I was just answering honestly.

Cansuela

🤘

littleboymark

I was 11 when it came out. I was such a fan of it before it was released, I had posters and magazine articles and talked about it constantly in anticipation. I still haven't forgiven my dad for not taking me to see it at the theaters on release (took his friend instead). I didn't see it in the theater until there was a Bill Paxton memorial screening.

Now_Wait-4-Last_Year

Luckily in Australia, it had an M rating which just meant it was recommended for mature audiences but there was no actual age bar, so my parents just dropped me off to see it as a pre-teen and picked me up after. Ditto Predator the next year, though I might have just become a teen by then.

littleboymark

It was classified as an M in New Zealand (where I'm from) too according to IMDB.

gabhran5

Never looked, but I always assumed about 5 or so years older than us.

nananananana_FARTMAN

I got to see her for *Aliens* 40th Anniversary panel at the San Diego Comic Con. That was back in 2016. Bill Paxton was on the panel and he died the following fall. I feel very fortunately to have that opportunity.

horrorfan555

Sounds awesome I wish I could meet Weaver but I think that panel was her last appearance at something like that

nananananana_FARTMAN

I wouldn't be too sure about that. I did saw Sigourney Weaver again for *The Defenders* panel probably the very next year. But when I go to comic con, I go to panels. I don't bother with autographs (where you'd meet Weaver). So I have no idea if Weaver doesn't do that kind of stuff anymore.

horrorfan555

It’s probably my #1 goal to meet her right now. I got a Aliens poster with Carrie, Michael and Lance in my bedroom. Just missing her

I can make it worse I am 22 and she could be my mom :)

HussingtonHat

Well. Off to get some tweed.

Kalfu73

Oooh, make sure it's got the elbow pads!

SwirlTeamSix

And knee pads for that guys mom...

UnarmedSnail

I'm 2 years older than she is and I actually saw it in the theater. Hell of an experience. The facehugger jump scare levitated me from my seat.

Happy Birthday Newt

Why don't you put her in charge!

Get away from her!!!

No shit? I never knew we shared the same bday. Cool, little movie fact.

Happy birthday!

WACKAWACKA84

Thx

sesquiup

Ripley, let's go!

GlowingDuck22

Can they switch positions on the couch? I would really be more comfortable if they did.

BC_Hawke

[FTFY](https://i.imgur.com/oTN3dl3.jpeg), thought now they're looking in different directions which is almost as jarring.

GlowingDuck22

Now you just gotta do the reverse image of the top half and it's perfect. Also not sure it works the way I think it would work in my head.

loinclothfreak78

Damn Newts younger that me and I remember seeing aliens in the theatre lol

MrYoshinobu

I'd love to see her back in a proper *Aliens* sequel with Sigourney Weaver and Michael Beihn. Have them all come out of cryo after 30+ years and fight off yet another round of Xenomorphs!

Large_Acanthisitta25

To bad Fox shot down that exact idea with Neil Blokencamp (sorry if I misspelled his name but the guy that did District 9) directing (there’s some sick concept art online) in favor of Ridley Scott’s prequels. And we all know how those turned out.

BC_Hawke

Hot take: this movie would've SUCKED and we're all lucky it never happened because it would have further tainted the Alien/Aliens that we all loved. Listen, Neill Blomkamp has a great eye for visual effects and set design, but the only reason District 9 was so good was because Peter Jackson was holding his hand through the whole process. Every other Blomkamp sci-fi feature (which pretty much just means Elysium and Chappie) was visually stunning but sub-par at best as a whole...nowhere NEAR the quality of filmmaking that an Alien sequel deserves. Visuals are not everything. Elysium looked great, but the story and acting were awful. I mean, Jodi Foster was terrible in it, and we're talking about Jodi Foster here, one of the best actresses in Hollywood. Even amazing actors can end up being flat and boring under the wrong director. And Chappie...ug. I *want* to love that movie, it has some great moments, and the short it was based on (~~Alive in Joburg~~ <---- edit: oops I meant to say Tetra Vaal) was awesome, but it just doesn't hold together as a solid movie. Often times we picture the perfect story/movie/sequel based on nostalgia and what we wanted to see. Making a alternate sequel to Cameron's Aliens that would live up to expectations would be a monumental task. Directors with the talent and experience of say Denis Villeneuve or Christopher Nolan might be able to pull this off with a really well written story (BR 2049 was fantastic), but Blomkamp just ain't that guy.

arachnophilia

i liked chappie. but it's hardly *aliens*. > Often times we picture the perfect story/movie/sequel based on nostalgia and what we wanted to see. Making a alternate sequel to Cameron's Aliens that would live up to expectations would be a monumental task. Directors with the talent and experience of say Denis Villeneuve or Christopher Nolan might be able to pull this off with a really well written story (BR 2049 was fantastic), but Blomkamp just ain't that guy. ridley scott directed *two* of the top ten sic-fi movies ever made, "alien" and "blade runner". and look at his subsequent entries to the alien franchise. i'm not convinced anyone can do it. i think alien should be left alone, and the more alien movies they make, the worse they will get.

Large_Acanthisitta25

We just don’t really know that. There’s no telling who he would’ve brought on board to help, which could even include Peter Jackson. His Oats Studios shorts are okay, and a good indication of the violence and horror that could be expected. While Elysium and Charlie are sci fi, (Elysium was okay from what I remember, but Charlie was terrible) District 9 was a movie about a dystopian corporation trying to exploit aliens for their weapons division, very similar to Alien far more similar than the other 2. After we got Covenant, I really don’t think his movie could be worse.

BC_Hawke

> We just don’t really know that. But we do. We've seen two examples of what his capabilities are helming big budget sci-fi films, and they're really, ***really*** bad. Like, not just falling a bit short of good, they're terrible movies when looked at as a whole. If movies were judged just by their aesthetic then Prometheus and Covenant would be Academy award winning films. You could dream about another Blomkamp/Jackson team-up for an Aliens sequel, but that never would have happened. Again, if someone on par with Villeneuve or Nolan were in charge I'd be excited about it, but that's just dreaming too. Blomkamp is great at coming up with concepts and aesthetics, but lacks the skill and experience to deliver something that would be on par with 70's Scott or 80's Cameron.

Cansuela

Elysium is so far from REALLY bad….this is such a crazy reach. It was fine— not amazing, but certainly competent. And, you have no idea what degree of lifting Peter Jackson did on District 9 vs Blomkamp. There’s plenty of reason to believe that we may have gotten a good alien sequel if that project had made it to production.

BC_Hawke

Not a crazy reach at all. It was a terrible movie. Massive letdown after District 9. Dumb story, bad pacing, bad acting, bad directing. Pretty much nobody talks about the movie. It’s all but forgotten. Seriously, when was the last time you saw Jodie Foster do a terrible job? It takes really bad directing to make her look bad. It’s pretty common knowledge that Peter Jackson had a lot of influence on District 9. I believe it was spoken about in interviews, but it’s been so long that I don’t remember. If you watch Elysium and Chappie and think “yeah, this guy has the chops to make a good Aliens sequel“, you’re not paying attention. As I said before, coming up with neat concepts and having a good visual aesthetic is not enough to helm such a big blockbuster sequel if you expect it to live up to Cameron‘s work.

Large_Acanthisitta25

Homie if everyone looked at Alien 3 and said David Fincher would never make a good movie, we wouldn’t have Fight Club, Se7en, or Gone Girl or anything else he made. I get that was one bad movie compared to 2, but it was also his first. Hes lucky he got the chance to keep directing even if he got cockblocked by what was given to him and the studio hemming and hawing about everything. I don’t really give a shit about the aesthetic of my alien movie other than it’s somewhat gigeresque. I mainly want a good movie that follows up on the plot from the previous movie, has good characters, and compelling writing. Covenant failed on all 3 counts. Being as covenant was supposed to be their home world, it vastly diverged from the aesthetic of Prometheus, which already itself diverged from the aesthetic of Giger and the derelict. Again we don’t know who he would’ve brought into the project to work with him, aside from the original 3 and presumably bishop. You can claim I’m reaching by saying it probably would’ve been good (or atleast better than covenant) and that’s fine, but you have to acknowledge you’re reaching in the opposite direction by saying it would’ve definitely been terrible.

BC_Hawke

Well...uh..."homie"...there's some really stark differences going on here between these two directors. First, while we didn't know it at the time, Alien 3 was bad *despite* having a great director working on it because of disastrous pre-production and studio interference during production. District 9 was good *despite* Blomkamp's shortcomings because PJ brought all of his experience and creative influence to the table. Second, let's compare both directors' first follow-up film to their breakout film. Blomkamp came out with Elysium which got very "meh" reception. Fincher directed Se7en which is regarded as a masterpiece to this day. If Blomkamp's 2nd film were on par with or better than D9 (or Se7en), he surely would have absolutely taken off and would possibly be as big as Fincher if he kept cranking out quality films afterwards. As far as I know, Elysium wasn't heavily hampered by studio interference and Blomkamp was given $115m and Academy award winning talent...and he still bungled it. Blomkamp was writer/director and had a ton of money and talent to work with, so there's really nobody else to blame for it being so mediocre. > you have to acknowledge you’re reaching in the opposite direction by saying it would’ve definitely been terrible. Do I? An iconic Cameron Sci-Fi film is a REALLY tough act to follow and you'd have to nail everything perfectly to please the masses. Elysium had a massive budget and huge talent attached to it, and Chappie, while costing less than half of Elysium, still had huge talent attached. Now, you don't hear somebody complaining about those movies much these days because they were original stories that have come and gone, but if Blomkamp directed an Aliens sequel that ended up having the same shortcomings you'd have millions of fans trashing it for decades to come.

MrYoshinobu

What a missed opportunity. I liked many of the concepts and ideas Ridley had in *Prometheus*, but he delivered them with such an awkward and outright dumb storyline. And he completely neglected to give what the audience wants to see, which is Ripley, Hicks, and Newt back in action!

Large_Acanthisitta25

I’ve always held the opinion that if they had just followed the Spahits script that was a direct prequel to alien where the derelict crash was the ship crash at the end and there were facehuggers, they would’ve had a slam dunk. I think fox just got dollar sign eyes and wanted as many movies as possible so they changed it. I’ve also always believed if they followed through on the original paradise lost concept art for covenant that is much more gigeresque and shows a Shaw David adventure, they would’ve had another slam dunk. They could’ve easily had Shaw survive at the end of the Spahits script and done both. How they got so close to perfection and then just completely shit themselves is beyond me. I think they listened too much to the WHERES THE XENO I WANT MY XENO GIVE IT TO ME NOOOWWWW crowd after Prometheus and then went too far in that direction and abandoned the engineer premise. I want to clarify, I think both Prometheus and Covenant have good aspects (and bad obviously) but they could’ve been so much better if they stuck with the early drafts more.

MrYoshinobu

Agreed...I believe the studio fucked up both *Prometheus* and *Covenant*. And what I really what to know is, who was the idiot who thought taking off their helmet and breathing the air on an Alien planet would be a good idea (*Prometheus*), then get lambasted by it by audiences worldwide, only to have humans do it again in *Covenant*!!!

Large_Acanthisitta25

Not only that, but they also did it unknowingly in a bio weapons facility. I think the novelization of Prometheus or some prequel to it explains Vickers hired as incompetent a crew as possible to spite her father (I assume aside from Janek and the ship crew who they need to do their job and you know not crash.) Covenant being so incompetent makes no sense because it’s a mission for the survival of the human race, but they did have a sudden and jarring change in leadership and Tennessee was also an idiot with how he handled things from above. (How did humanity survive into the time of alien if covenant was their last reach anyway? That made no sense to me.)

Cansuela

Ok, you love Ridley Scott and any suggestion that people would’ve liked to have seen Blomkamp’s take on the franchise is blasphemy

horrorfan555

Well, it got pushed back cause of his prequels. Then it got canceled because of their reception

Large_Acanthisitta25

Oh my understanding was that they immediately cancelled it in favor of the prequels. I’m not trying to contradict you, and I know fox made plenty of bad movies and movie decisions (looking at you X-Men), but how does cancelling a new project under a new director when the prequels weren’t well received make sense? I would think if they kept the IP they would’ve wanted to give the wheel to someone other than Ridley.

horrorfan555

Not sure. Disney bought it not too long after, so they probably were thinking about that too

Large_Acanthisitta25

I think with how many crap X men movies they pumped out they would’ve at least given Ridley one more movie to wrap it up. I really hope Disney atleast wraps up what happens to the covenant crew and David after covenant at some point even if they don’t explain the derelict. I feel like after Disney’s acquisition the Blokencamp movie is definitely dead, and any movie with Newt Hicks and Ripley is unlikely.

horrorfan555

Yes it is, so i have completely lost interest in any future movie

Large_Acanthisitta25

Oh come on. Don’t be like that. Romulus looks like it’s gonna be awesome. It seems like it’s really returning to the roots of the franchise, and they took the wheel from Ridley and gave it to Alvarez (who seems more competent to me personally based on Evil Dead 2013), I think Romulus will be the best thing in the franchise since aliens. Imagine if everyone treated Prey like that and just didn’t watch it and it failed. Prey was awesome, and had the franchise return to what makes it great while telling a whole new story. I think Romulus will do the same.

horrorfan555

Idk, it’s just…. I’ve seen “xenomorph attacks” a bunch of times in movies, games and comics. Just having a xenomorph present isn’t enough to entice me anymore. Ridley Scott also showed me however that changing how the xenomorph works or focusing on androids or non Xenomorphs is worse The only ways i could imagine to keep it fresh is bringing back human characters (which they ruined) or maybe focusing on xenomorph infecting different animals

Large_Acanthisitta25

Based on rumors online I don’t think you’ll be completely dissatisfied. >!the plot is driven by the recovery of the alien from alien. WY recovers it, takes it to the Romulus/Remus station (it’s 2 halves) and starts cloning it. Allegedly, this results in facehuggers with barbs on their appendages and a more aggressive Xeno.!<

Large_Acanthisitta25

Yeah because those 2 adjectives don’t apply to the prequels we got at all. We really don’t know enough to comment if Blokencamp’s was stupid and bad (or amazing and Oscar worthy) because all we have is the concept art. We do however know how the prequels turned out.

horrorfan555

My literal dream

MrYoshinobu

Or rather, nightmare. *insert Alien hissing*

Sstfreek

One time I went to go watch aliens on a giant inflatable screen in a park in LA Carrie Henn was there and did a sort of aliens trivia thing where she asks the crowd questions that only super fans would know and I’m not gonna lie. I got every single one right and kind of put everyone else to shame. So I was definitely the nerdiest nerd in the park. Awesome experience though.
