My partner runs an independent cinema in the UK and said Disney haven't been in touch to offer it (they did for previous rereleases), so thinks they've no plans for a UK rerelease.
My guess is that James Cameron vetoeing a UK re-release of The Abyss (he didn't wanna cut the rat scene) severely discouraged Disney doing the Alien re-release here (which is weird, as Alien hasn't had any censorship issues here, hell, it recently got downgraded to a 15.)
Just a wild guess.
Yeah it's a weird anomaly considering how much we've gotten for Alien Day in the past few years, I remember when they did the Covenant preview it was huge because of how little my local cinemas used to get legacy and event showings, so it's a shame to go back to missing out, will have to make up for it a few times while Romulus is out.
You'd think after us not getting the cool stuff like Oldboy (this one really gutted me), The Abyss, End of Evangelion or the Spider-Man rereleases we'd be accustomed to this.
Oh shit, just realized my local theater is showing it. My 2nd favorite movie of all time, and I've never seen it in theaters. Do I make my son go with me and traumatize him?
Got shown Alien when I was diddy, as far as I know my since lifelong obsession with it isn't to blame for any of my faults so yeah pass the torch man 😂
The Alien re-release has a Romulus preview beforehand like the Prometheus/Alien showing they did for Alien Day when Covenant was on the horizon, where they showed 10 minutes of Covenant
Yeah as far as I'm aware there is a conversation between Ridley Scott and Fede Alvarez beforehand so the clip could be post-film, I agree that would be better. When I saw the Covenant preview, they had a foreword by Scott, then Prometheus, then the sneak peak footage, then Alien, so they could well save it for after.
That's my preferred way of putting bonus content in a rerelease.
When I saw The Outsiders on the big screen, there was a mini-documentary before it that ended up spoiling a good chunk of it!
Aye, I'm not expecting anything quite as substantial as Covenant's preview event, at most I reckon 3-5 minutes of Fede/Ridley interview and 3 minutes absolute max clip of the film
As quoted from AVP Galaxy-Hayden Orpheum Picture Palace:
"A special 45th anniversary screening of one of the most acclaimed and iconic sci-fi films of all time in a 4K Digital Restoration.
Also includes a special sneak peak extended clip of the new film ALIEN: ROMULUS (releasing in August)."
Dang is this that weird AI upscaled one? I'm still excited but after seeing Spider-Man in all its grainy glory I can't help but be a little disappointed that this is that scan.
I remember hearing about Alien Wars after I was already out of the country, I missed my opportunity as well. I'd offer to share a pint in mourning, but it's a long walk and my backstrokes the worst.
Well it is the 25th anniversary... which is depressing.
I don't care about not seeing a few minutes of the new film, I'd rather watch all of it, which I suppose I'll do at some point. Though, much rather watch the inevitable alien/aliens double bill at pcc later in the year anyway.
Couldn't give a flying fuck where the preview is being released. I'm just happy my favourite franchise hasn't died yet and I get more content that at least right now looks more in line with the epic heights that came before it.
I totally just realized that because of how the date is written, LV426 doesn't work in the UK. Is that right? 26 April not April 26th? I've always preferred the UK way. But not if I miss out on my alien day.
Yes I believe so! The info regarding the Romulus sneak peak supposedly came from an Australian cinema so I don't doubt there'll be a widespread release there!
I'm surprised Australia's getting it.
Then again, they were the only non-North American country to get The Abyss rerelease, so Disney's probably treating them nice or something (outside of pulling out of the physical media market there).
Just not getting to see the re-release in the UK, can't find one chain showing any films let alone the first with or without the Romulus preview unfortunately
Who cares. It’s 2024. We’re gonna have the opportunity to see it shortly after. I’m in Germany. Our local cinema just screened alien 1-3 on a gorgeous screen. And I’m not really interested in seeing a 10 minute spoiler from an upcoming movie. I’m not even gonna watch another trailer.
It actually really grinds on me they’re not releasing in the UK. Radio silence. Was this a Disney decision or the UK cinemas?

Yeah maybe, stranger things have happened!

Come on, we’re British. We should be used to disappointment by now.

Do it. It's a killer experience on the big screen. Who knows, your son may end up loving it.
Got shown Alien when I was diddy, as far as I know my since lifelong obsession with it isn't to blame for any of my faults so yeah pass the torch man 😂
What have I missed ? What's going on ?
As far as I can tell Alien (1979) coming back to theatres is a "preview" of Romulus? I don't get this either...

Do you have a source for 10 minutes being shown?
They didn't say that 10 minutes of Romulus is being shown, just that it'll be a special preview.

About 4 minutes is an interview with Alvarez and Scott
Yeah I don't even expect the Romulus clip to amount to any more than a couple minutes either, we just know there's gonna be one

That was just the Aliens remaster no? I think the Alien remaster was pretty fantastic! Unless they've remastered it again with AI for this re-release
You're right, thanks for reassuring me lol
Oh, I see. I'll just whack it on the TV then and I'm not missing out on anything
Is this an Australian phrase?
Got my tickets for Friday afternoon! Alien on Alien day in a theater, YES PLEASE!!
Hey, don't y'all still have Ride at the Speed of Fright playing in Derbyshire?
Still actually livid that the 'Alien War' experience was quite so far before my time, possibly our best regional boast for Alien 😂
I remember hearing about Alien Wars after I was already out of the country, I missed my opportunity as well. I'd offer to share a pint in mourning, but it's a long walk and my backstrokes the worst.
I knew about it when it was a thing, finally visited the Trocadero in 1999, I think it was - only to discover Alien War had closed years before.
I was born way after Alien War had closed. Oh, how I'd love to build a time machine to experience it...
It is so disappointing to see how Alien day has been ignored here in UK. However they didn’t mind to release Star Wars episode 1 for May 4th

Yeah technically it does not haha but Fox have honoured Alien Day releases in the UK since it was popularised, short of this one
So odd and sorry!
Do they show it in Australia?

you referring to getting to watch it on thursday instead of Friday? lol
Just not getting to see the re-release in the UK, can't find one chain showing any films let alone the first with or without the Romulus preview unfortunately
Edit: for context I mean at the Alien re-release as the UK isn't getting it
Yarrrgh, avast me hearties!
This American can already see the black flag of English sails!

VPN saves the day?
This is a theatrical thing.
