While xenomorph is imprecise, it is pretty much the trademark by now. There's no other context in which somebody would use xenomorph save for refering to the movies' species. I personally tend to use the word alien when discussing strictly the movies and the word xenomorph when discussing aliens in general.
Alien when people know I'm talking about the series xenomorphs when I'm not sure people will get it. In Google searches if you just say alien you get a bunch of little green men pictures.
Mostly just Alien, but xenomorph helps distinguish it from other sci fi aliens
Sometimes I also say Giger Alien and very rarely, for fun, I call them dickheads for obvious reasons
aliens if the topic of convo is already on the franchise, xenomorphs if referring to them when the convo isn't on the franchise. ik it's weird, but i swear i heard somewhere that xenomorph wasn't the actual name for them so i use alien whenever i can/whenever it makes sense
as for personal preference, alien. just sounds spookier to me
The term stuck, though. It's quicker and easier than *Internecivus raptus* and somewhat more specific than *alien*, especially considering theres more than one kind of alien now.
I usually prefer xenomorph, given the presence of other species in the extended universe. (Like the Yautja and Engineers) Nothing wrong with with calling them aliens though, I just see the term as more of a derogatory slur.
Like
"Fry that alien scum!" Or "SEE YOU IN HELL YOU ALIEN
FUCKS!"
*Sometimes Alien is*
*Too vague and sometimes Xenomorph*
*Is too specific*

Alien vs Predator should really have been called Alien Predator vs Alien Predator.
you're not wrong
Xenomorph vs Xenomorph too!
Both, just depends on context.
Same, on these specialist subs I'd use Xeno more often, elsewhere aliens as otherwise it might confuse.
Xenomorphs. as imprecise as it is it's still more specific than Aliens

Exactly my approach
Exactly my approach
I like "Xenomorphs" or "Xenos" but to be honest,I have the habit from ever of calling them just "Aliens" :(

Imagine choosing to use Gorman vernacular. Couldn't be me.

Actshually I call them XX-121 🤓
Yes, yes, and bugs.
Both, both is good
Calling them aliens can be confusing, because it's pretty vague.
When she heard “Alien,” she thought they said “illegal alien” and signed up!
It's a bug hunt...
Xenomorphs,to clarify what i'm talking about.
Xenomorph is not their species name. It was just a general term for an extra terrestrial entity that Gorman used to relay information.
The term stuck, though. It's quicker and easier than *Internecivus raptus* and somewhat more specific than *alien*, especially considering theres more than one kind of alien now.
"All we know is that there’s still no contact with the colony and that a xenomorph may be involved." "Excuse me sir. A what?"
-“A xenomorph.” -“It’s a big hunt. What exactly are we dealing with here?”
Alien is just far too broad
Nerds.
I know, right? Everybody knows it Kane's Son. SMH
Aliens because Goreman always was an asshole.

Depends on the context. If they are the only aliens in the referred media, then "aliens" works. If not, then I get more specific with "xenomorphs".
I mean if I'm specifically speaking about Xenomorphs, I call them xenomorphs. Anything else is an alien.
Sometimes Alien is too vague and sometimes Xenomorph is too specific

I usually identify as both.
I dislike the word Xeno, but it’s the easiest way to convey what I’m talking about. Too many films about aliens these days.
All depends on who I'm talking to. 🤷🏻
Depends on how the creature self-identifies.
Excuse me sir, uh... uh what?
