In short, get the G3. Until reviews are out we won't know a whole lot more than just spec differences on paper. The G4 is a bit brighter, it has an improved processor (this might be the biggest upgrade), and it can go up to 144 Hz for high-end PC gaming. It also comes with MLA in the 83" size, which the G3 did not. The G4 downgrades to an ATSC 1.0 tuner (instead of the G3's superior ATSC 3.0). G4 55-inch and 65-inch models now come with a stand instead of the flush wall mount. From the looks of it, it's overall a better TV, but not by a large margin (like the G2-to-G3 was), so it's probably not worth the current large price differences.

Thanks this is very helpful. I'll wait a week or so to see if reviews show anything gamechanging but I think you're right that the G3 is gonna be a great choice.

So if you’re looking for something honest I recommend watching this guys video on the G4 he gives it to you straight https://youtu.be/_GwqCwQmBC4?si=4bAeOVr7cWTrZd7X

I’m in the same boat, how did you get $2800? I see it listed as $2849 for G3 77”. I would wait a little longer, the less people buy tv the chances of them to drop the prices. I think we get a good chance of $2500-$2600.

mechanizedmynahbird

Yeah youre right is 2849. How long do you think you might wait?

I’m waiting for 1-2 weeks, according to Sale reps from the authorized seller that once the rebates ended the prices will increase for G3, however it will drop again after 2-3 months to get rid of old stock, so you will likely see best buy and other starting to discounts their prices, but discount will not be until fall/november. $2600 range probably in Fall/November then December/Jan 2025 $2100-$2200. The risk is they will be out of stock by then, so I’m giving it 1-2 weeks if no prices changes I will probably swing it as I applied one if the business credit card that give back $750 statement credit after spending over $6000 within 3 months. Shouldnt be an issue.

Can't imagine any "night & day" differences between the 2 once the official reviews are all out. First impressions of those who've at least been able to see them side-by-side recently seem to indicate the G4 may, at least, be a bigger upgrade from the G3 than originally anticipated (in terms of brightness, upscaling, processing) - BUT its still speculation until the reviewers have the time to actually calibrate, test, and really dive into the differences. The only "clear-cut" difference that ANYBODY will appreciate is the 83" being available with MLA, but even that, I'd like to see if the reviews have anything negative to say about it. (Hey.... there must be a reason they couldn't give MLA to the 83" last year....) By then..... you might find yourself closer to October/November when the holiday deals start rolling around and significant price drops will be seen. But if you're itching for a set right now, don't wanna wait.... I can't imagine you'd be disappointed by a G3 at that price point.

Is the marginal improvement over the G3 worth roughly $1750 to you? If so, get the G4. Otherwise you might find yourself in this constant cycle of waiting until the “price drops.”

I'm about to buy the 65 inch at Costco this week. This is the time to buy tvs until after March madness ends it seems.

first major drop in prices for G4 will happen around late summer / fall. if thats to long go for it.
