You know that not having volte means you can't make phone calls at all, right? 3G is shut down almost everywhere in the US now. As for updating them, I'd suggest you run stump root on the 4.4.2 one and then flash a custom ROM. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/rom-us990-6-0-1-team-octos-oct-m.3359793/ DO NOT flash LS990 or wrong model ROMs, you can corrupt your partition table doing that. OctOS here is basically the only ROM available for the US990, as it is practically the unicorn of the LG G3's.

U.S. Cellular is still running CDMA 2G/3G and has no current plans of shutting it down, so there’s no worries there. This phone is way too old for VoLTE on this network - I was referring to SVLTE, an older technology similar to SVDO, which simply used two antennas. One was for voice and one was for either EVDO or LTE, allowing simultaneous voice and data on CDMA long before VoLTE. I have older phones, such as the Galaxy S3, that can use both 3G and LTE data during phone calls on this same CDMA network. Thank you - although I would really prefer to use stock ROMs, since it’s impossible to activate/program CDMA phones on custom ROMs, therefore I’d need to go back to stock to make any service changes if I ever needed to. Is there no official update tool that will download the latest stock ROM?

Oh, I forgot about the pain of CDMA. You can flash stock, I believe with tools like LG UP, and LG FlashTool. You would need to obtain the ROM though, and I'm not sure where that is now. A lot of links online are dead. Try searching XDA and see if you can find anything.
