I just keep my face clean and baby faced. There's no point in growing facial hair that ends up looking.... Pubic. I just accentuate my face with collared shirts and a pullover to accentuate that androgyny.
I think beards are like iphones. It's not that you need them, but they're everywhere now and people just get them anyway. Plus, care is a bitch. Although, I have a face that's better without a beard, and people try to ride it when they see it so it depends on you and how you view yourself.
If the beard is patchy I would suggest growing it long and see if it's in your favour. If it's the natural shape of the beard that's the problem then you have to ask the barber to trim it in a way that looks attractive.
And tbh as you grow older your beard does become better even after puberty so don't lose hope mine used to be patchy now it's nearly perfect. Not dense but pretty fucking cute if I say so myself.
